AED and CPR is not a neck injury.

His heart stopped.

Prayers to him and his family, may God care for this man.

I put this elsewhere.  The brain stem is what controls heartbeat and respiration.   Injury to the brain stem can cause cardiac and respiratory arrest.  Injury to the cerebellum, just above it, can cause loss of balance/inability to stand/walk.

I have a friend, a hard going amateur cyclist, who had a cerebellur stroke.  He’s fine now, but it was scary.

I’ve watched the replay a few times I just can’t see anything there that looked like it would cause this type of event. It’s brutal to see the after effect.

Underlying health issue, or preexisting neck injury?

Prayers are with his family and friends and teammates.

This is what I think is most likely.  A heart rhythm problem could be due to a fairly common valvular problem in athletes.  A brain aneurysm that ruptured would also be preexisting but undiagnosed which is usually the case.   brain aneurysms aren't commonly screened for..

Still not a big positive update. Trachea breathing tube isn't great sign but he is still here. 🙏

Yeah that is standard.

In fact they may put him in hypothermia protocol as well. Depends how long it took to get a rhythm back.

Its all about how his brain recovers from the period of hypoxia.

It’s a small matter in the grand scheme of things, but the Bills simply CANNOT be punished in the W-L column because one of their players might actually die.

Who cares.   Let’s make sure our guy lives.  That’s all I care about.  Football comes later.

These 3 on ESPN are an embarrassment

Can you imagine what it's like for them? They're not news broadcasters who are trained to be solemn and serious but keep the programme flowing. None of them want to be there, doing this, right now.

That's what I was thinking. Post-ROSC hypothermia protocols.

Nope. No preexisting condition is needed. Just incredible bad luck.

Sadly, no it's not.  many codes result in resumption of normal rhythm with no need for intubation.
