I don’t know who’s better between Poyer and Hyde.

Im anxious to see more of Poyer and Hamlin together. Hamlin brings a physical side. Much more physical than Poyer and Hyde. Poyer and Hyde both ballhawks.

Did Poyer practice today?

Like 3 games ago we were pretty close to picking the most athletic Bills fan to play corner in the 4th quarter and you want to trade away one of the best CBs in the league?

For sure, Tre is going nowhere.  This is how I could see things going.  Next year the Bills have signed contracts at CB of:

White ($15.6M)

T Johnson ($9.25M)

Elam ($3.1M)

Benford ($1M - Moving to SS?)

Neal ($3.3M) (Primary Depth)

Contracts signed for S:

Hyde ($10.8M - Let's hope he's back 100%)

Hamlin ($1M)

Add in a few PS DB guys that sign Reserve/Futures contracts.

Poyer - UFA (He walks unfortunately)

Jackson - RFA (If Bills want to keep him it's a $4.3M 2nd Round Tender or they let him go for a 7th round tender)

If anyone got traded at deadline it's Dane for maybe as much as a 5th if their plans are not to keep him.

Lewis - RFA (won't get tendered-hoping he signs back and comes to camp)

J Johnson - UFA (test FA market - going to want $2M+.  Maybe resigned for depth)

I see a 5th round (Bills have 2, ARZ for Cody Ford) for a Safety and another 6th or 7th going on CB.

Wrong. He went on IR after week 2. Only has to miss 4 games. The posted comment said season ending IR , but that’s a journalist opinion.

His agent already said he's done for the year.  The neck injury is a 6-9 month recovery.  Do you really think that he would risk coming back, or better yet, this conservative team (when it comes to injuries) would allow him to come back?  His season is over

I honestly feel bad for the development for some of our guys.  I may catch a ton of flack for this, but if Benford and Elam continued to produce, I don't know that I wouldn't trade Tre in the offseason if the contract allowed it.

This is nothing against Tre, but we've been very solid against the pass with our DB's and our schedule only gets easier.  The money Tre gets could easily help towards resigning Oliver, Davis, and others.

Again, I like Tre a lot, but have we really missed him?  Elam got beat up a bit against the Steelers, but he's honestly our 3rd DB at this point behind Dane and Benford.  The deep shot to Waddle was on our safeties.

Flame away, I know it's coming

I disagree completely as Tre is a core player in his prime. Edmunds and Poyer are far more likely to be gone next year due to cap constraints.

Think about how quickly we became CB poor over the past few weeks.

Pose this question after the KC game.

Fairly certain it’s NOT season ending IR. After Week 1, players go on IR all the time then return. Ref: Tre White.

The rules don't prevent him from coming back, the 6-9 month recovery time certainly would seem to though.  Especially considering how careful they've been with Tre's knee.

Hyde's successful surgery was confirmed Wednesday. Surgery was performed by spine specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles. 6 months from October is April. I'm not sure what playoff push you are expecting in April, but Hyde is out for the season.

No one likes it, but his 2022 season is done. I hope he is healthy and ready to go in 2023 (#23in23). This is the same argument that was had about White where fans thought he would be ready at the start of the season. Heal time is heal time, and Buffalo won't rush anyone back. It is what it is.

On the plus side White, Benford and Poyer were all practicing in red non-contact jerseys today. White and Benford are probably looking at being available vs Green Bay. Hopefully Poyer can play this week vs KC.

I understand the reasoning. Not many take the time to think like a GM. But I do think they have yet to be tested against a good offense with multiple weapons. You could argue the Fins had the best offense they've played to date.  KC will be their toughest thus far and TBH outside of Kelce they're not overly imposing.

No need to rush him back.

Including the Thanksgiving game in which Tre was injured, the Bills record is 10-4 since that day.

4 losses were 2 OT games, Pats windstorm game, and a bad Josh throw to McKenzie away from the win in Miami.

Won’t be surprised if he’s dressed for Packers and is given very limited snaps.
If he seems ready, could be Jets the following week for first start since last year.

The latest reports are that the rest of the injured players are close to being fully active for game day.

Can't wait for Takeaway Tre to get back out there on D.

Just hope people don't think he is automatically going to step onto the field and be the same player he was before he got hurt. Going to likely be an adjustment period and we may not see that player til next year.

I saw a news release that it's 6-9 months recovery time after his neck surgery.

So technically he could come back this season but medically, no

Buffalo is already nasty, and now the Bills are getting healthy!!!! The bye week lined up perfectly this year! Look out NFL.

Buffalo is wrapping up it's toughest 6 game stretch of the season, and will be 4-2 at worst, often with the entire secondary starting backups and rookies. KC will be tough, but I feel bad for Green Bay and every team after. This team has yet to peak.

Our backups and rookies are experienced now too, and are producing. The best silver lining.... Oh Yeah!!!

LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Oh Yeah Surprise GIF

i just don’t understand the logic here. The goal of this team is to win a super bowl THIS year, not to get more picks next year or create cap space. Tre makes us better this year. Thats all that matters.

if you want to trade him next year so be it, but why are you feeling “bad”. You should be ecstatic. Come on man!

I agree this year should be all in. Hell last year they should have been all in too. And if Hyde had not gotten hurt there would be no discussion.  But with Hyde out it is a legitimate discussion to consider what is the best combination of 5 players for the secondary. It could be as simple as Tre at CB and Hamlin at FS end of story. But no one knows how Tre will play coming off the knee injury. No one expected a 6th round pick to beat out Elam. So yes, trading anyone makes no sense. Where you choose to line guys up on Sunday is reasonable to discus especially as we see how White performs in the coming weeks.

Tre is here to stay

Far too good to trade away

Not listening come what may

That's all I came to say.

PS - flame's away

Think Rhodes gets cut?

But how often does McD ever want to run man?  It's not really who we are.

I don't see Rhodes either on the 53 man roster or the practice squad on the official web site.  Something's going on that we don't know about.

The Bills pass D actually has given up fewer yards without him than they were with him which is astounding.

The Bills D has given up fewer yards than with Tre last year because the D-line is substantially better. Add Tre to a defense with Von Miller, an improved Greg Rousseau and Daquan Jones there's no telling what heights they'll reach.

My bold and totally unsubstantiated prediction is that Taron Johnson will be a safety next season and White, Elam, and Benford will be the corners and slot corner, respectively. The starting safeties will be Hyde, if he recovers, and either Johnson or Hamlin.

I was surprised to see you write this Shaw. They won't take one of the best and most highly-paid nickel corners in the league and make him a backup safety.

9 hours ago, Virgil said:

Last year before White was injured in week 12 the Bills were playing man coverage around 38% of the time which is the highest figure in the McDermott era. White was also used in man-zone combo more than ever last year... which allowed him to "travel" with opposing WRs.

9 hours ago, PaattMaann said:

Benford is a very likely candidate to transition to safety during the later stages of this season (for practice) and this offseason as a potential Micah replacement after his contract is up after next season.

I disagree with those who say Benford will transition to safety soon. While he's a good fit for safety, corners who can play corner rarely transition to safety until late in their careers after they've lost a step.

I view Benford as that unicorn large CB like Richard Sherman who can matchup against players like Mike Evans, Courtland Sutton, and Michael Thomas.

Tre White has been one of the smartest DBs in the league and I'm sure this time off only reinforced that. LOL at trading him, cmon man. This is the heart and soul right now with Hyde off the field. Very exciting news, let's get it right and get him back when he's ready.

Go to Ourlads and depth chart - he is listed on the injury section because he is on PS-IR and is out.

The Bills should not waste an IR return on him - so my guess is when healthy - he gets cut rather than activated and he will not rejoin this team.
