Bills sign P Matt Haack

I didn't realize Haack was also a left-footer

The signing of Haack may mean the Bills are prepared to move on from Corey Bojorquez, who is a Restricted Free Agent. To retain Bojorquez's rights, the Bills would have to give him a minimum qualifying offer of $2.13 million, which would make him one of the top-10 paid punters in the NFL by cash, and in the top half of the league in terms of salary cap hits in 2021.

Coming over from the Dolphins forum, going to sign up shortly.  Matt is my cousin, I figured Buffalo would be the last place he would end up with Bojo doing so well last year (of the places possible) but I can tell you as someone who lost interest in the NFL for awhile, then started watching again when he was signed by Miami, I for one am so damn happy he’s going to a good team.  Miami’s draft is set up to be a dumpster fire (they have lots of picks, but they’re targeting a cancerous culture).

anyway, sorry for those of you not excited, but we are pumped!

also, he holds the Dolphins record for most punts inside the 20 in a single game, which he did twice.

307 total punts for an anemic offense, 114 inside the 20.

2nd in Dolphins history (ahead of Roby) in net yards (career).

Our new punter with the TD pass:

SPOLIER:  He throws it to place kicker, that is unusual.  Marine Mammals DID have a good special teams last year to compensate for Tua.

Bojo's Out of bounds punts may have caused the Bills to look elsewhere.

So that's why we're downgrading the punter?

We almost never punted last year. Do you really think this is going to hurt the team much? He is an NFL caliber punter. We'll be fine.

Shouldn't it be the other way "If he signs for over $2 mil you don't get it"??

The Bills could have had him for $2 mil tender.

But if he signs with another team for $1.5 mil, could just as easily mean the Bills were only will to pay $1.25 mil or something??

Since no team has announced they've come to terms, could easily be camp punter and he still signs with Buffalo

If he takes less than the Bills should have paid him, that’s what I don’t get.  I’m assuming they would have given him at least that.

A reduced emphasis of special teams when paired with Andre Roberts.

We had the returner with the best kickoff return average and the punter with the highest average.

focusing so much on a punters average is really not a good way to judge them

No one loves punters like Bills fans!

Truth be told, Paul Maguire was one of my favorite Bills of yesteryear. He punted 100 times in 1968 (in just 14 games) compared to Bojo's 41 last year. Kinda tells the story of just how bad the Bills were in '68.  He and Sestak made great pizza too.

His 40 time is an underrated commodity on special teams...I like how we’re thinking outside the box...😉

Those are Moorman numbers! Didn’t BM running something stupid like a 4.45? I think he won NCAA’s for D3 in the 400 hurdles?

Also, our punter is faster than Singletary...

I still remember the day my dad took me to Sestak & Maguire’s! I have no idea if it was good.........but it was AWESOME!

He's the Dolphins all time leader in net punting average 39.9 and also put 7 punts inside the 20 yard line in one game.

I'm shocked that Reggie Roby isn't the all time leader in every punting category for the mammals!

Well to me it says the Bills weren't interested in paying $2 mil for him and didn't.  And likely are assuming no other team is willing to pay that much either, so maybe they will still sign him.

Ashamed tender offer salaries for RFA aren't tied to positions the way franchise tag salaries are.  Hard to believe that RFA QB is worth the same as a punter!

I grew up near Sestak & Maguire's.  We'd go there Friday nights after our basketball games back in the late 60's.  Great pizza indeed.  And has gotten better as the years go by.

Sounds as though Bojo wanted to be paid more than the Bills wanted to pay him, all I can think of.

We could have tendered him.

Hard to think of this as not being a downgrade.

Downgrade how exactly...bc of avg yrd per punt, or another metric?

Bojo had a good yr, but that was just 1 during his time with us.  Granted he improved greatly this yr, but the inconsistency could have still been a concern and field position.  Bojo rarely pinned punts, it was a coin flip if he'd kick a touchback or a fair catch at the 15.

With the offense that we now have, a specialist pinning the ball deep is much more valuable than a guy who kicks a 60-yr boom every 10th kick.

Bojo bigger leg, Haack will prove much more valuable when those frustrating drives fizzle at midfield.

I was thinking average yds per punt.

All fair points!  I heard they were talking to Bojo....I wonder if he just wanted too much, or if they feel Haack is an upgrade in some regards?

I mentioned in the Parlady thread that the real news with the Dolphins signing him was that Haack was available, and that I preferred him to BOjo, and Parlady. Haack is the real deal and I’m glad we grabbed him.

I hope that the Bills feel the same way and weren't "settling"

Hm... I wonder if Bojo was wanting more than we wanted to pay? Not sure I get the point of developing him and being patient with him only to not sign him...

Why let Bojo go?? Hopefully this is just a camp body

Bojo might get paid as a top 5 punter with his avg from last year and ability to boom it.. might want a payday
