Is McDermott going to scare players away?

I love how he benches players. They made it very clear from the start, noones job is safe. They will always bring in competition and will not be afraid to punish players screwing up in ways that can cost them the game.

The only way McD. Scares players away are of they are scared of winning.

I’m not reading that.

I started, but figured I got the gist of it early on and gave up. It seemed a rather daunting task.

There are no participation awards in the NFL. They are not in middle school. If they are afraid of consequences for their quality of play, maybe they need to find a new place to go to work.

I'd also like to point out that, while many want to point to similar offenses to insinuate favoritism, they aren't the same level of offense.  Singletary gets the ball punched out and stays in.  Moss has a lapse of concentration on a hand-off, and Mckenzie gives up the ball on his own.  I believe Breida was also benched for simply coughing the ball up uncontested.  Being the victim of a good play is a much different situation than demonstrating lack of focus. The latter is a reason to sit down and get your head in the game.

McDermott is the reason that Buffalo is a destination for FA's. Before his arrival, there was a real penalty that the organization had to pay to get good FA's to sign with a perennial loser. Now we are set for the forseeable future and you want to blow it up and start over? No thanks.

Looking at how McDermott handles his players during season and in game is sometimes questionable...don't you think?  McKenzie fumbled the punt against Indy..

Moss fumbled the ball in 2020 against SF early in the game...yes it was on the goal line...but I don't think coach had to benched him for the rest of the game.

Feelings...Nothing more than...feelings

It seems more like a Debbie Downer post than a troll post IMO.

I heard Debbie Downer lives under bridge…, at least some of the time, kinda like a time share…,

I don't have a problem with McD benching guys for making big mistakes.  Belichick did it all the time. What I do have a huge problem with is a HC that doesn't own up to his own colossal mistakes.  I'd be terrified knowing I've worked my butt off in a playoff game only to have him screw it up late.

From the front office down to the towel boy, they are all teammates, not a single one of this team’s members is ever “terrified” that a teammate might “drop the ball” as might be said, they certainly don’t want it to happen, but they all know it is a real possibility on every play or decision made, like it or not it’s part of the game.

Go Bills!!!

Just curious of when he didn't own up to making a mistake?  He has always stated it starts with him and he has to do better.

Wasn't it just last season where McKenzie said he'd be willing to play here for candy?

Yes.  And McKenzie is still saying he wants to come back, but we all also know it's a business - and he wants the chance to start in the slot.

He wasn't gonna get it as long as Beasley and Daboll were here.

Whether the depth chart will look different under Dorsey and with Brady's input, remains to  be seen.

Whether Beasley is on the team on March 20th, when he's due a $0.5M roster bonus, also remains to be seen.

I'd call it more of a: "I don't like McDermott" post so let me come up with some reasons why he's not a good to show I'm right.

As far as McKenzie goes there were some stories about how there was much more to the story with him about things going on at practice, etc.

Likely before any FA player signs with a team, they make some calls to contacts they might have or even friend of a friend to find out what it's really like on said team.  Other players know what went on behind the scenes and will tell.

Recall reading both this year and last Diggs was recruiting players to sign here.  Doesn't sound like there are issues going on to me.

It takes an outlandish view designed to get attention.  Even if the person does feel that way about McDermott, they're not trying to have a conversation.. they want attention. Notice it emulates an earlier outlandish thread and the OP has disappeared.

At the risk of interrupting your never ending crusade against McDermott, if you don't think he owns up to his mistakes, or doesn't hold himself accountable regarding things for which he is responsible, then you haven't paid any attention over the last five years to those things that define the character of McDermott.

Or, you just have no ability to evaluate human behavior.

98% of players only care about the money. Pay them enough and they will play anywhere and for anyone

2% of veterans might factor in the coach or the city

If this was the case, then 98% of players wouldn't sign extensions with the team that drafted them.  They would all hit the open free agent market where you can get more money.

We don't see the things that go on in practice and meeting rooms.  When we see a guy go to the bench in a game, we assume that it is because of a single and most recent misdeed.  Most likely, the benching is the culmination of multiple issues (the straw that finally broke the camel's back so to speak).  Players on a good team aren't going to support a player that is a continuous screw-up.  If a coach lets bad play slide, he'll lose the entire team.

Most players want to play on a winning team.  As long as Beane, McD, and Allen are in Buffalo, they will be a reason for players wanting to play there.

Eh.  There are reasons to sign an extension with the drafting team that are consistent with "only care about the money".  Just off the top of my head:

1) Extensions are usually signed a season before the player hits FA.  Exchanging your current contract for an extension that pays more and perhaps has better guarantees can be a sound fiscal decision - the "bird in the hand" vs "bird in the bush" thing

2) Depending upon the position played, the player may believe they have more value to that team than they would on the open market

3) There's $$ and then there's guaranteed $$

4) The drafting team could be located in a state where the player gets to keep more of their $$, eg no state taxes

I believe I'm stating this correctly from a math perspective:

There's an inverse relationship between the number of posts the OP has and how outlandish and crazy the thread is.!

Reminds me of reading Poe in high school. Back then periods were in short supply, but commas were plentiful.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of football lore—

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—

            Only this and nothing more.”

lol poor OP dude/dudette brings forth a "Provocative" take and hence feels the snarky wrath of 2bd basically slamming it down..oh dear...I'll go easy....

Yeah I doubt McDermott would scare away a player. And if said player were so intimidated McD wouldn't choose that guy anyway.  dude wouldn't  even make it past pre screen interviews.....That's what I think.
