Housch$$ released

Bass needs to work on becoming a little more consistent, but the Bills had to go with him because of his big leg.  A few decades ago, Buffalo drafted a promising place kicker.  He had a terrible training camp and the Bills got rid of him.  Gary Anderson went on to have a Hall of Fame career.  I'm glad the Bills took a chance on the kid.

They got rid of him because he deliberately shanked every kick.  He purposely missed 5 field goal attempts for the Bills so he could get cut and picked up by Steelers, who had initially said they were going to draft him.  Do you think he would have better if they kept him on roster?

I was laughing in 1998 NFC Championship Game where he missed 38-yard field goal.  It is considered by NFL.com to be one of the greatest plays in playoff history and only one for opposition.

I'm relieved the Bills won't be releasing another promising rookie.

Recently, they let Dustin Hopkins go, and he's proven to be a good kicker for Washington.

Last year, they let Chase McLaughlin go, and he's proven to be pretty decent, as well.

I'm thankful for Hauschka's contributions. I'm also ready to see if Bass can be this team's kicker for the next decade+.

Aaah, this is the first “confirmation” I’ve heard for my nearly 30 year old theory! Not that I don’t trust you, but is there a link or something you can share?

The Gary Anderson saga is among many “theories” I’ve had over the years and one of the few that have been confirmed or proven false.

What about a kicker who always hits under 50? Three misses under 50 in camp for the Bass.

Hauschka missed an XP today. Let's not pretend he has been automatic for the last two years.  Yes he kicked well in the playoff game.  He also kicked really poorly in a couple games that cost them.

Ha, figures you'd be against this move.  I didn't feel spoiled against the Browns last year, and if Hausch still had a decent leg we'd have been able to try a 54-yarder in a dome vs. Houston in the playoffs.

He was an excellent kicker for the Bills and has had a great career, but in Buffalo you need a strong leg and the writing was on the wall.  The fact that Bass was nearly 80% in college should ease people's minds.  He's gonna be very good.

I’m confused about what 54 yd opportunity you are referring to in that playoff game. The only situation i can remember is when they went for it on fourth and forever and Josh took that god awful sack. And where that ball was spotted, it would have been a 59 yd attempt. The only thing that realistically should have happened there was a punt. Am i forgetting another opportunity?.... I do remember thinking we had a shot at a 54 yarder in OT just before that atrocious penalty was called on ford that moved us way back.

Gary Anderson was bitter about being drafted by the Bills and deliberately played himself off the team. Lots of players were unhappy with Stew Barber at the time.

He missed two kicks inside 50 last year. I will donate $50 charity bet with the first to take me up that if Bass is the kicker in 2020 he misses more than that.

Just my thoughts because everyone has good points here. He had a great career and still can be a good  get for some team. But when  a guy who has been so good for so long suddenly gets a bit shaky to the point where I don’t entirely trust him anymore  I think it’s time to move on. He has just not been as good as his first year here. The last 2 years were pretty consistent with each other but still a dropoff from 2017. In all fairness to him I don’t think the injury he sustained helped his cause. The family sounds awesome for what they contributed to the community.

There is a risk to go with Bass, but I know he at least has the leg to give us a shot beyond 50. And who’s to say  he won’t be as effective or better from under 50? I can’t say for certain Hauska makes a kick anymore that Bass can’t make.

check back with me at playoff time lol

Did he actually admit it?   I know that was universally believed by Bills fans, including me.  In any case, all indications are Tyler Bass is happy to be a Buffalo Bill, and patience could result in a nice long term payoff.

He is a class act and I am sorry it had to end this way, but he is clearly not what he once was.  All the best to him and his family and here is hoping Bass can step up to the pressure of an NFL kicking gig.
