An off-season deep dive: Alex Smith underwent a total of 17 surgeries on his right leg after suffering a devastating compound fracture during a game in 2018. The injury occurred during a sack, and it was compounded by a severe infection called necrotizing fasciitis. The surgeries were necessary to save his leg and life, and they included debridements to remove infected tissue and limb salvage procedures Following the initial surgery, Smith developed necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating bacteria. Smith spent months in the hospital and had to use a wheelchair, walker, and crutches before finally being able to walk again. Despite the severity of the injury and the long recovery process, Smith returned to the NFL in 2020 and even started a game for the Washington Football Team. inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 class last December. The honor comes three years after earning his spot in Utah's Hall of Fame. When NFL legend Alex Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, learned their daughter Sloane had brain cancer, they felt like their world was crashing down. “You think you have been through a lot, but when it's one of your kids, nothing prepares you for a moment like that,” the former NFL quarterback said. https://www.si.com/college/utah/football/alex-smith-and-wife-reveals-8-year-old-daughter-had-third-10-hour-brain-surgery

Owners approve a change to the onside kick rule
First Round Bust replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
so 50 on-sides kicks last season with 3 recovered by the kicking team for 6 percent success rate. Given that...I quite dont understand why the rule still requires these to be announced before the play..with the element of surprise being key and thus removed Can't be safety issue as the teams are lined-up close to each other and players are not running all that fast into each other ? -
Next...I hope he shows-up in camp driving a Bentley with some major bling on along with deluxe sound system and a big screen TV...then dad pops in to catch his pro debut and subsequent ad hoc presser... Then onto how debate about how many QBs the Browns will keep and cut...and then which ones pass thru waivers... then get picked-up on a PS squad... that should get us thru Labor Day...

First Round Bust replied to KingBoots8's topic in The Stadium Wall
as well interesting to note that the two punters (Camarda and Robbins) are wearing numbers 32 (OJ) and 40 (JD Hill) respectively...per Joe B and his peerless puntapalooza pointers. -

Keon Coleman FaceTimes Josh Allen - Funny

my reaction to the Bills drafting Josh back in the day was almost the same...I thought he had too many flaws...accuracy, played against inferior competition, etc -

add track meet speed...nobody ever ran OJ down once he broke free which was hard to do considering the D always keyed on him.... -
Bills first Regular Season game Rich Stadium
First Round Bust replied to diannand's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tom Brookshier me thinks - this game was the first regular season game at Rich Stadium - Earl Edwards was an absolute beast that day constant pressure amongst the best I have ever seen from a Bills player not named Bruce Smith...sold-out 72 hours in advance (stupid NFL blackout rule) so we could all watch from home...may have been the first ever Bills home game televised in the 716 ??? -

totally agree..glad he could walk away from this on his terms...and no more concussions ! he was high character man, 6-6 sort of playing out of position, as he played tackle at Mizzou, he did a great job of pulling to the edge to lead the off-tackle plays and sweeps...was a bit over-powered due to his lean and long frame by bull tackles as center was not his true calling... best to Mitch in his new chapter of life...a true Buffalo Bill
