Brianmoorman4jesus
To me the Lions would be a perfect fit for Mayfield. It’s a team that plays with a lot of heart and a chip on their shoulder. This guy is a lot of things but he fits that mold for sure. That fan base would almost definitely embrace him and the lions would be getting a very motivated guy. It would be an excellent place to try and revitalize a career IMO. Low expectations but room for a monster payoff.

Possibly but I believe someone will offer something. Especially if a team loses a starter before the season. Looks like Cleveland could swallow Bakers cap hit and wait it out... Would they want to is the question. They gave up a ton of picks for Watson so I'm sure they want to try

His salary is fully guaranteed. Other than the roster spot (which would be filled by a player whose salary also would count toward the cap) they’d gain nothing. They could keep him for part/all of the season. He could compete with Brissett for the back up spot. If he wants to start somewhere else in the league, then he can man up and entice the other teams while Watson is suspended. That’s a tough road, but I think that after Watson’s suspension is announced the Browns may say that he could start during that time. That’d mostly be a move to try to improve his trade value though. I think they do eventually trade him. If they can’t, then I think the likely scenario is that he sits the year as inactive for every game unless suspension and/or injury require the team to make him active. I doubt he actually plays unless it’s an emergency. They’ll at least get a comp pick out of it that way.

I understand your point, but the trade partner could renegotiate with Baker. Another possibility is the trade partner gives up a pick in exchange for Browns keeping a portion of Baker’s salary

machine gun kelly
We’ll he’s losing options at this point. NO, Carolina, and maybe Seattle. They haven’t traded for him yet so it’s a safe bet he won’t get traded until after the draft if at all. He was really banged up and may have hurt himself as if he pulled out mid year, his stock would probably be higher now. I meant to add per Spotrac Carolina has $30.8 mil., NO has $20.5 mil.,and Seattle has $15.6 mil. As of today Cleveland I thought owes BM $18.8 mil, and they have $19.6 available pre Watson contract. Its just a matter of whether any of these three teams see him as that much of an upgrade over what’s on their roster. Also, do they see any value in if the top. Draft prospects. This draft is pretty weak at QB. Next year is much better so they may want to rent Mayfield for a year, and then draft a much better class next year. thenorthremembers
Say what you want about the guy, but he is arguably better than 15 of the guys who will start for NFL teams next year. That's hardly the bar to clear and not sure would qualify as a smart pickup for Seattle. Maybe Cleveland is still asking for too much to trade for Mayfield, but there does not seem to be much interest....guess that demonstrates what the rest of the league thinks of him. machine gun kelly
We’ll he’s losing options at this point. NO, Carolina, and Seattle. Carolina has almost $31 mil., NO has about $25. Seattle has $15 mil. If they don’t like any draft picks, they could inherit the $18 mil, owes BM. I don’t see anyone at this point giving away any high draft picks for him this year. He’s still good enough to play as an avg. NFL QB. Next years draft is supposed to be much better at QB. It’s all spec. At this point.
