This defense is still better then last year.

You might end up being right, but still don't see it as anything more than marginal and pass rush is/was key to everything.

Bigger issue is offense still worse without Beasely and Daboll calling plays. Oline still a major liability as well unless they start to come on strong like end of last year.

since you want to get all pissy - to your original point about reading the MRI “correctly” and getting surgery sooner - Tre White had surgery Dec. 15, 2021 after tearing his ACL on Thanksgiving. It was known immediately that White had tore his ACL. Today’s Dec. 7. Do the math.

I say it in every thread but injuries suck! Miller would have been huge for us in the playoffs. But every team has someone missing. We invested a lot in pass rushers. Time for the young guys to become men

After the Bengals get Joe Mixon back from concussion protocol this week, they will be 100% healthy.

We haven’t even seen all of our defense on the field at the same time yet. Losing Von sucks for sure, but we are still good enough to get the job done. The games he helped us win early, especially the KC game, will help us in the playoffs with seeding. Get well Von, can’t wait to get you back.

The Buffalo Bills need to win a Super Bowl that hasn’t changed but the Von Miller injury puts that a little more in doubt now? But hopefully a lesson to some Bills fans that apologize for Sean McDermott all the time. We don’t get those .13 seconds back as Bills fans. Next season may not be as good as last season chances wise for the Super Bowl. Reality the Bills aren’t as good this season as last season. We have no sure handed go to wide receiver when Cole Beasley signed else where then retired. Josh Allen has a bad elbow which is limiting the Bills offense to protect Josh Allen’s injured elbow.

All of this is why you don’t make excuses for failed coaches. Sean McDermott and his coaching staff cost this team a Super Bowl last season over those .13 seconds. I don’t care what our record is now the Buffalo Bills aren’t as good as last season you can see it. No Von Miller and a injured Josh Allen isn’t good. I have already moved on from Sean McDermott era last season. I see failure when I see Sean McDermott coaching in close games. Sean McDermott isn’t a difference maker as a head coach without Josh Allen he would be back to being a assistant coach again with a notebook.

My New York Yankees are the same way without Aaron Judge Aaron Boone is a bench coach or scout. Because Aaron Boone isn’t special as a manager either two mediocre leaders alike with tons of excuses for failure. Sean McDermott and Aaron Boone both bums carried by one elite superstar $53 million dollars a year Josh Allen and $40 million dollars a year Aaron Judge neither with a championship yet because of poor leaders run the two teams. Fire both Sean McDermott and Aaron Boone for being mediocre with tons of excuses why they failed except themselves of course there both bums in my opinion. Go Bills! Go Yankees! Let’s Go Buffalo

Should change screen name to “Hot Takes & Bad Team Opinions”. Firing a coach sitting a top the division, while dealing with injuries most of the season and STILL putting out a competitive team. Our combined losses are by what..9 points out something silly. JA’s elbow looked pretty good last game, a few throws off mark but I wouldn’t say he’s “not good”. Judge, well his team was out played in a series of games🤷🏼‍♂️

Not the end of the world but definitely sucks.  He did help us beat the Chiefs e.g., which could assist us in getting the #1 seed.  That, in turn, would give us a huge advantage in the playoffs.  Plus, it seems like he's helped the progression of Groot and others.  So my "glass half full" perspective is that he's already helped us a lot and we'll be fine . . . which may in fact be true!

Well this certainly sucks, but on he bright side, he has taught a lot of technique to our other pass rushers, (RELEASE THE FRENCH MAN) am confident that we will overcome this set back.

GO  BILLS!!!

He’s going to be a great December addition next year when we are looking to make that final push to defend our Lombardi trophy.

This team goes as far as the offense will take us.  Out score everyone.

your acting like 33 is young for NFL standards. its not he will be 34 if/when he plays again. and that contract size has lots to do with this as well.

He was on pace for 12 sacks this year which would have been good enough for #10 sack leader last year - and he did that playing only 61% of snaps. I'm not worried about him slowing down any further until he actually does. The whole point of Von Miller being on this team is to be a situational player for 3-4 games of the season. He's making that $20M so he can get the one sack on the play that matter most in January.

While it sucks that he's not going to be able to fulfill that role this year, it would be a minor blessing if they just held him out until the playoffs next year. He's our Kucherov without the benefit of the LTIR cap relief.

Not to kick a team when they're down, but....

For a FO that gutted a roster because of "cap hell", this feels a little too familiar.

We are estimated $10M over a $220M cap for 2023. $18M of that is a 34 year old DE with a torn ACL that won't play.

I think we are in a bit of cap hell, now.

You should listen to any podcast that features Gregg Thompsett of Cover 1. He has a very good handle on how the current contracts are structured.

He went through an exercise a few weeks ago and was able to easily find $65M of free space this offseason if we want to use it. We have a very intelligent front office that has signed our best players to long deals in which you can punt money to future years by converting it to bonus. Like Von's contract, for example.

As soon as he went down I planned on him being out or at minimum ineffective for the rest season, so it isn't much of a shock. We've never been a team that's winning games on the back of our defense and I didn't expect that to change this year. I don't see this loss having much impact if any on our chances. The offense needs to get right and game day coaching needs to drastically improve. If those two things happen, we'll be fine.

actually, much of the drought we did, I’d say.

We really don't have much of a pass rush without Miller. Unsure how we get around that.

If the plan is to not worry about D and hope the offense puts up 30-40 points every game--that's a recipe for disaster.

Our offense has been hit or miss. Teams will double Diggs in the postseason. Who do we have to step up?

Getting a legit #2 receiver and OL help needs to be a priority in the offseason. Another pass rusher too.

NFL executive V.P. of communications, public affairs, and safety Jeff Miller claiming slit-film surfaces “have 2-3 more injuries per year, most of them are ankle sprains — a low-burden injury — whereas slit film also sees a lower rate of fewer high-burden ACL injuries compared to other synthetic fields.” Miller added that “the league and NFLPA’s joint experts did not recommend any changes to surfaces at the meeting but agreed more study is needed.”

The problem with slit-film turf comes from the construction of the various fake blades of grass. Instead of a single blade of fake grass (monofilament), slit-film has openings in the pieces, creating a potential risk of cleats catching in the material.

Seven of the league’s 32 teams (the Giants, Jets, Lions, Vikings, Saints, Colts, and Bengals) use slit-film turf.

I agree, but we also need to acknowledge that our FO is able to do this because of the Pegula’s willingness to spend up front.  We don’t give them enough credit at times.

good stuff. its a great conversation to have. And to be honest, Everyone does heal differently and not every ACL surgery is the same. Some people come out of Minor ACL surgery and have way more movement than the DR. thought they would have. Other ACL surgeries just don't go the greatest and it takes longer time to heal.

Only time will tell if/when he comes back but that short video he made makes me more optimistic

This really hurts. We don’t have that closer on the DL. Someone that can make a key sack in big moments. At least no one proven.

We need Rousseau and Oliver to step up big time. We’re still a good DL, Lawson, Phillips, and Jones will also have to step up. Epenesa needs to take a few steps.

The coaches will have to dial up more blitzes.

Sorry, man, you're right.  I'm just freaking out a bit at the moment.  LOL.  Point remains, though, on the injury settlement.  The Bills can't make him sign anything.  Injury settlements are usually done as a courtesy to players down the roster food chain to hook them up with a bit of cash on their way out instead of flat out cutting them while also allowing the team to save some cap scratch.

You're right that injury settlements are made for non-vested vets (which Von is vested) but it's not a "courtesy" it's a player's right.

Sometimes if the players agent/doctors disagree with a team's representative's it could go to arbitration.

All this "career ending" talk will have no bearing until it could be proven.  Von will start next year on PUP and remain there until

he is cleared by the doctors to play.  Then and only then if he cannot play will any "retirement" talks begin.

9 minutes ago, PrimeTime101 said:

its clauses in the current contract concerning injuries. many times, you hear it going to courts concerning settlements. it is what it is.

Please give us some examples of vested-vet injury settlements.

I'll give you an example of a player a team wished they could just get rid of and couldn't, Alex Smith.

He stayed on IR and then PUP and eventually ended up being paid &71M for a total of 16 games.

I wish this wasn't the case, but it is.

Since every case is different,'Math' doesn't apply. My point, was the condition should have been diagnosed, sooner.

First of all it doesn't matter. A week or two wont change the timeline. Second this is a knee that has already been operated on which may make the imaging more difficult to interpret especially when it is initially swollen.

Von video they just played on NFLN sure sounds like he's coming back next year.

Side note:  He is so inspirational man.. even from the hospital, knowing he won't play this year, he's got me hype.

Von is the type of guy who would post an inspirational video after losing his right leg and both arms, that it's all good.
