Me trying to get excited for the Jets game and the rest of the season and to pretend like this injury doesn't massively impact the Bills' chances of winning the Super Bowl:

It doesn’t MASSIVELY impact the Bills chances. There is only one guy that does that …and Diggs.

Let’s hope the players and staff get on with things better that than glass fan base on this forum.

Now would be a great time for the Texans to release Hughes…

Even if they did there is no guarantee Hughes would make it to Buffalo.  He would have to go through waivers. The Rams could claim him for instance.  Any team could.

Worse than losing your starting QB, then your backup QB?

Come on man.  Obviously losing your QBs is bad.  You dont see the injuries we have this season.  Have we even played one game with all of our defense this year?  No.  Our injuries have been horrible this season.

Has Beane actually said that?

If so, I’m not sure I really understand that thinking. You could say the same about any big money contract - if that player gets injured it leaves a big hole in your lineup. That’s not a reason to not sign good players in free agency. It’s not like free agents are more prone to injury than guys you draft/develop + sign to big money…

Also, I really don’t get all the “Von’s injury suddenly makes this a bad contract” takes in this thread. It was an injury. They happen in football all the time. It doesn’t suddenly make the Von signing a bad contract. The Bills needed a true finisher on the D line. They went and signed one of the best.

Does the injury leave a big hole in the lineup? Yes. But doesn’t that kind of help prove it was a good signing?

While I I agree with most of your post, there were plenty of folks like me who thought giving that money to that age player was a massive risk… not because of injury, butfor me was age and probability of declining play in the next couple of years.

If I recall correctly, the 49ers have had their share of injuries this year. I don't think we win that competition.

How bad does this ***** their cap for the next couple years?

Worst case scenario - he retires and we work out an injury settlement.  Won't hurt us a ton.

As long as he comes back, we're basically without a 20M pass rusher for (potentially) 80-90% of the regular season next year.

Pretty darn bad, but maybe we can restructure it to mitigate the damage

Von Miller's contract by year:

            Active        Dead Cap

2023   18.7            40.2

2024   22.2            22.8

2025   21.2             7.4

Oh please. As if that should even be part of the conversation.

4M for a good pass rusher is a bargain.  Ask Justin Houston and Melvin Ingram. The “over the hill” pass rushers that nobody wants are all doing what they’ve always done.  Pressuring the QB.

I said it COULD BE a career ender.

Sorry, man, you're right.  I'm just freaking out a bit at the moment.  LOL.  Point remains, though, on the injury settlement.  The Bills can't make him sign anything.  Injury settlements are usually done as a courtesy to players down the roster food chain to hook them up with a bit of cash on their way out instead of flat out cutting them while also allowing the team to save some cap scratch.

Just saw that vested veterans have to go through waivers after the trade deadline, so yeah, he wouldn’t make it to us. NFL probably has that in place to prevent collusion.

Im not talking about competition.  Some other team having more injuries doenst make all our injuries any less bad.

Thats fine but your comment was taken as the worst out of all teams especially when you doubled down. If you just meant a generic "we have the worst luck" then I get it, no big deal.

No way he retires when he could get paid $20M to rehab and have access to the bills facilities.

What was the deal with Eric Wood again? I just remember that awkward press conference where he retired but couldn't say it because of injury/contract concerns.
