Royale with Cheese
Listening to morning show and brought up about Allen and if he’s at that place where he doesn’t play at all in the preseason. How would you feel about it? No need because he’s at that level. Or, he needs live reps with being in his first year with Dorsey?
Warcodered
I'd be fine with it, it's not happening though, nothing about Josh makes me think he doesn't want to get out there and start knocking the rust off for the season. Besides that, this year with Dorsey it's not happening anyway, got to get as close to game reps as you can. The Wiz
I only say no because he's gonna want to play even if it's pre-season. It will likely be very little, maybe 15-20 snaps in total, but he's going to want them. 1
1ManRaid
Didn't he sit last year before losing to Pittsburgh, or was that the year before? 3
RocCityRoller
even though it was Daboll to Dorsey, they need to install the new offensive concepts and get the new guys mixed in for timing and to realize the heat JA puts on those passes. 4 2

First Round Bust
got to get some live fire reps at game speed esp with some new O personnel, new O coord calling plays, etc... loose the season-opener ? this becomes reason # 1 as to why...
BillsFan4
No, not really. It’s not a brand new offense but he does have a new offensive coordinator who is going to call some new plays I’m sure, and a new offensive line coach who has a different blocking scheme than the old o line coach. So I think he should get some reps in during the preseason. 2

Rc2catch
I would have the starters play at least some. Especially any year you have new starting pieces on offense. 1

Buffalo Boy
Nope, looks like I’ve got free tickets front row behind the Bills bench for the Carolinas game with my boy. We both want to see us some JA close up. On the level though, after last years rusty start I believe he needs some reps to get his mind right, especially with a new OC in his ear. They don’t have to expose him to much danger but he does need some live reps. Edited July 22, 2022 by Buffalo Boy 3
Logic
I realize I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't ever need to see Josh Allen take a preseason snap again. No preseason reps sure didn't seem to hurt him in 2020. Edited July 22, 2022 by Logic 2

Sounding better now, isn’t it? Have fun at the game! I’m sure your son will remember that for a long, long time!
loveorhatembillsfan4life
I’d have Josh play a quarter to a half in Game 2. I don’t think Mcd has any hesitation to do so either. He should sit Game 1 and probably Game 3 other than a series at most. Edited July 22, 2022 by loveorhatembillsfan4life

Ross Murdock
Yeah, lets start the year off looking totally unprepared like last year, and lose to a pathetic Steelers team. Most punters here seem to think practice is a waste of time. Didn't work out to well for Iverson either. Allen needs at least 20 serious snaps in game 3 of the pre-season. Bills could easily start 1-4 with a brutal opening schedule. They have a real schedule this year, facing most of the best QB's in the league, with an untested defensive line. I predict there will be folks jumping off the Peace Bridge by week 6. I small a wild card birth. 2
MJS
I wouldn't second guess a decision to not play him. But I do think there is some value in him going through live reps with a new coordinator/play caller in his ear and getting all the technical and logistical stuff ironed out before the regular season. Not to mention giving him some time with the new offensive starters.
Herc11
1st game is the season opener, prime-time, against the SB Champs. You dont go into that game, with a new O-coordinator, not having some actual game-speed experience together. 4 4
Punching Bag
There are some new catchers for Allen and I think that is hard for them to realize how fast he throws ball and that does not even come out as fast in training camp. I do think they need to determine who will be WRs and TEs quickly so they can get in sync letting the backup QBs work with others to see perhaps if any have skills to break thru the wall. Bob in STL
He should play just one or two series in the last 2 preseason games and that is it. Just enough to take the rust rust off. And no planned QB runs either.

Kirby Jackson
I’m good with it. I don’t care if any of those main guys play. If they sat 12 guys throughout the preseason you won’t hear me complain. The goal is a Super Bowl. This team needs to stay healthy again. Don’t add chances for injury. They’ve been together a while and by all accounts the system isn’t too much different. Additionally, there is a lot of competition for the back of the roster. I’d just assume see those guys get the reps. I’m all for the return of “Club Marv.” Edited July 22, 2022 by Kirby Jackson

Alphadawg7
He needs to play...we are installing a new offense and incorporating new players and roles. Don Otreply
The logic behind the thinking that it would be beneficial to sit Josh to prevent possible injury is completely flawed, our QB1 who by the way is a grown man and (god forbid) could just as easily be injured on the first snap of the first regular season game, and it is more likely to happen when the season is on the line than in a preseason scrimmage, its just a silly concept on its best day. Go Bills!!!
strive_for_five_guy
What’s the difference between him playing in a preseason game versus just taking practice reps against his own team? The Bills D can sharpen him up just as much as another team, with direction to lay off him. Maybe there’s a benefit to playing with a crowd, but he’s been there and done that, at this point. The last 2 games may have been the best 2 games of his career. Thankfully he didn’t incur an injury in preseason that put him out for a period of time or nagged throughout the year. The Bills were the healthiest team in the NFL last year. Some of that can be attributed to the preseason approach. Ethan in Cleveland
I've posted this many times before. I would be fine with zero or 1 preseason game. The coaching staff (and most of this board) almost assuredly knows 50 of the 53 guys that are going to make the final roster now. Those 3 they don't know are just choosing between the 7th WR or a back-up OG. Sure some marginal guy may surprise but they will pick that up in camp not a fake game. Even with two full preseasons and a handful of real games, McD and Beane managed to trade Teller away. There is zero upside to playing the starters in the pre-season. The COVID year proved the quality of play is unaffected by lack of preseason. I wouldn't dress a single starter the entire preseason.
