JerseyBills
I haven't seen this discussed much and feel it deserves its own thread. 2 more fumbles yesterday! 1 turnover, but this has plauged him threw 3 years and was expecting him to clean this up entering this year. Plan and simple, if Allen can't find a resolution to this issue and it continues to impact his game, I don't think we ever make it out of the AFC. These fumbles will cost us playoff games in the future Edited September 14, 2021 by JerseyBills 2 1 6 4 3 1

Mango
There were some issues yesterday that far surpass Allen’s fumble. Like staring down receivers pre snap, not identifying the open receiver only to throw into the double covered primary, as well as issues controlling arc and velocity on long balls. Ill trade any of the above issues before I even think about his fumbling. 2 3
LABILLBACKER
There's still 2 fixable issues he apparently hasn't addressed yet. 1. Ball security 2. Deep throw trajectory....everything else about his game I love. But he's known about these problems since year 1.
Jobot
Poor game plan that over-used the qb draw play. This wasn't fooling anyone on the Steelers all day.. but they kept trying it for some dumb reason. Can't expect Allen to play running back, the whole point of his running is to utilize it in selective circumstances. 2 2

zow2
Same with throwing 25 yards downfield on 3rd down into double/triple coverage for the huge play when the easy 8-12 yard dumpoff is right there. He can't control himself. Yeah the fumbling is an issue that he could clean up if he chooses to concentrate on it. I'm good with him falling forward on 4th and shorts...or scrambling on broken pass plays. But i can do without all the called runs for Allen. Not only is there a high rate of fumbling, but they are placing him in harms way, for what...4-5 yards?!? Often times less. 2

Ya he was very bad overall and those things are being discussed and I agree on everything you said except I put fumbling right up there. I mean a turnover can completely change a game and if this continues , alot more of his fumbles will be for turnovers
BillsFanForever19
The one he lost was a blind side sack strip. It happens to everyone. Mario did it to Ben in the same game. Not a whole lot you can do when a guy you don't see coming smacks the ball while you're holding it in one hand trying to get a pass off. There are three categories of fumbling issues: 1) Allen fumbling as a runner 2) Allen fumbling on a QB-C exchange 3) Allen fumbling on a strip sack Allen worked pretty diligently on 1) in 2019 after he had 3 fumbles in the Eagles game and 2 in the Washington game, and learned to tuck it into the "Bills claw" and put his second arm over it when anticipating contact or in traffic. Allen back-slid on this last season and yesterday, and it needs to be re-addressed, Pronto. Once he has made his decision to run, he can not carry the ball in his hand, like bait, daring the defense to emerge from the astroturf and smack at it. The QB-C exchange usually gets chalked up to Allen as a fumble but it may not be his fault, and needs to be addressed with both C and QB The strip sack fumbles are probably never going to be eliminated. They're pretty much the cost of doing business with a QB who tries to extend the play and avoid the throw-away as much as Allen does. But they can be reduced by emphasizing "throw it away, live for the next down". 4

I do not blame him for the Strip Sack on Watt. 9/10 QBs will have that end in a fumble. Ben had one too just happened to recover it. wiseman3
Fumbling on a blind side strip sack from TJ Watt isn't what I would call ball security issues. That ball is coming out a majority of the time no matter who the QB is. 1

MPL
Alright, I'll go ahead and say what we're all thinking... we should have kept Tyrod Taylor. That guy throws a great deep ball and practically never fumbles. Sure, we would have to suffer through listening to him clear his throat 78 times per interview, but if he was able to lead the Texans to victory yesterday, imagine what he would do with all this talent in Buffalo? 34-78-83
Was Allen off some yesterday and feeling that Pittsburgh rush? Yes for sure! Now - Did EITHER team remotely complete any short OR long TOUCH PASSES with any consistency? Did any of you see fairly common throws from both QB's go over the head of the target or even suddenly into the dirt? If you answered No and Yes you are correct, AND isn't that odd that both QB's seemed affected equally with those? Last question - did any of you who attended the game throw the football around in the parking lot at all, or see any who were doing so? Just asking. There are many factors that affect each game uniquely. To clarify - this is for the other complaints in Josh's game yesterday discussed in this thread, not regarding the fumbles! JESSEFEFFER
He has had 2 fumbles in every season opener for the last 3 years. Maybe a direct result of having the ball in his hands so much and never being hit in preseason work. Mindset of taking hits and protecting the ball comes with failing and then doing it over and over. It really can't be simulated.

But I do agree the bigger picture is Allen's alleged status ans a premier NFL QB and the turnovers have to stop in that regard.

No. A touch pass by any QB lacks power thus any QB can throw them. Even by the wannabes in the parking lot. But you can't really control ball placement of a touch pass on a day with a steady ~20 mph wind therefore we saw very few in the game. I believe that was 34-78-83's point. Ben tried 2 downfield that were of the touch variety and got a jump ball win by Claypool and a DPI call on Wallace that was severely under thrown. Neither were located well. Josh tried ripping 6x? and only got 1 completion. Over throws to Diggs and Sanders, a nice back shoulder splitting two defenders to Davis, the flea flicker to Diggs that was a last instant PBU, 1 to Sanders hands that was not secured prior to the defensive hit. Even the one he completed to Davis was not in a spot where Davis could get RAC yards.

Brady and Ben get the ball out really quickly. Josh has to learn to do this when faced with a good defensive front. If not, he needs to advocate for more screens and rollouts. 1 1 1
