I don't believe in gentleman's agreements when money in on the line.  Hollister is now allowed to negotiate with any team.  It could cost the Bills more than 550k than what they were going to pay Hollister.

What does this mean?  You don't believe they occur?  Bills did them 2x last cutdown day, with Roberts and Dean Marlowe.

Or you don't think they're a good idea?

Part of what makes them fly is that the re-signed player gets something for it - a bit more signing bonus, salary guarantees as if they'd been on the 53

If Hollister is offered a better contract to go elsewhere, I'm sure part of the deal is his agent will call the Bills and give them the chance to match

Sure - i'm not sure anyone else can guarantee him playing time with an all-pro QB that he personally knows quite well.  He also spent an entire camp here and feels good about playbook, role, etc.  It'd be a rather large risk to squeeze an extra couple hundred K out of bufflao/another team.  This is probably his best chance at a good pay day next year.

Hollister is a prime candidate for this though, I can't imagine he'd get much more from anywhere else plus he has to know that he's going to get plenty of playing time here so that's not going to be a factor either.

All this hand wringing about Jacob Hollister?

He's an alright player but nothing earth shattering.  The most catches he ever had in a game is 8.  The most yards he has ever had in a game is 64.  He has 6 tds in 4 years.

I get the Josh connection and perhaps he does come back after some maneuvering, but this isn't a huge loss if that doesn't happen.

Here is a knox/Hollister comparison

Knox: 52 catches, 676 yards, 5 tds in 2 years

Hollister: 74 catches, 652 yards (!), and 6 tds

Hollister has played with Russ Wilson and Brady so he didn't have scrubs throwing it to him either...

Edit:  Seeing the current TE depth chart, I imagine Sweeney goes to IR after making the 53 and Hollister is re-signed as others have said.

Well, he looked good in preseason, the Josh connection isn't nothing, and the current compliment of healthy TEs is Knox and the FB Gilliam. The concern is not ridiculous.

Yeah I edited while you were responding.  I didn't see the additional TE cuts.  I think this was just done to move Sweeney to IR before Hollister is re-signed.

Thanks for the simple summary. The list looks a lot like the Jeopardy answer to: Who are a bunch of football players you’ve never heard of.

(Partly kidding)

Yes, I actually posted on the generic scenario and agreed with the Sweeney IR likelihood upthread. Your tone did not make sense to me, but understandable if you were ignorant concerning the other TE cuts. I like Becker, so I hope we bring him back to PS.

Stevenson left the game against Green Bay injured. I think they must feel good that one of Stevenson and Isaiah is good to go.... doesn't necessarily mean both are to me.

Wasn't Stevenson a "head injury" possible concussion I assumed, so usually not out more than 2 to 3 weeks at most.  And if he was still suffering from concussion after 3 weeks, then he might want to be thinking of a different profession.

Expect him to be inactive every week. He’s nowhere close to being ready.

Agreed.  He atleast has a shot. By mid season working on one position I think he will be alright if needed.

Right but it takes two to tango.  If someone comes calling he can just say- im going back to buffalo.  I assume he knows the plan here.

I would consider Cam Lewis a PS candidate as well.

I was really hoping they would find a way to stash him on IR. His injury against Chicago was probably way too

minor.

I hear ya, but the problem with putting him IR is that he can't practice at any point all year.  Hard for him to improve much without being able to practice.  He can still work on the mental aspects of the game, but I don't know how much that'll help him improve just on its own.

An unlimited number of players can return from a team’s injured reserve list, and they are eligible after missing a minimum of only three games.

After three weeks, the player becomes eligible to return to practice. Once he returns to practice, the team has 21 days to place him back on the active roster.

Previously, a team had only two IR-return designations it could use in a season and a player was required to miss a minimum of eight weeks.

Only players on the 53-player roster after Sept. 1 are eligible to be designated for return from IR or the non-football injury list.

In other words the same modfied IR rules as last season.

The post you replied to seems to mean putting him in IR before roster cut to 53. In that case, players can not return from IR.

I think you and the chap you're responding to may be at cross-purposes

His point seems to be that we have to put Doyle on the 53-man roster at least initially, in order for him to go on IR, return and be eligible to practice with the team at any point this year.

So it looks like only one draft pick (Anderson) might not make the roster?  Wildgoose is a question mark too, but has a good shoot with Cam out.  Pretty impressive on a deep roster.

I think its impressive from a GM perspective.  Really shows how him and McD work together.  Theserookies are not necessarily the best players at this moment.  For example I think Josh Thomas played better than Hamlin (its close so fine if someone disagrees), but I definitely still wanted Hamlin on the roster (even potentially over Thomas).  The reason (I think but would like some help with) is to retain that rookie contract and control.  This doesnt happen if McD and Beane are not on the same page for roster construction both this year and going forward.

Watch Beane flip Carolina's 6th for Njoku - he makes $6 million this year and is a FA next year.   Much cheaper than what they would have to give up for Ertz and his $12.7 million this season.

Would love Njoku.  I have liked him for a while.  I think there is some untapped potential there.  That said, I don't think it will ever happen.
