"The upset proved costly for some Las Vegas gamblers. On Sunday morning, a bettor at a William Hill sportsbook in Nevada placed an $18,000 money-line bet on the Vikings at odds of -1,800 for a chance at netting $1,000."

"The Westgate SuperBook told ESPN it took a $9,000 money-line bet on the Vikings at -2,000 odds shortly before kickoff. That bet would have won a net $450."

Honestly if I had 5K to throw around 6 hours ago,  the Vikings looked like a great option.

Not with that kind of spread.  I don't care how bad the other team looked.  The favored team does not cover that kind of spread very often.  Its best just to stay away from that game.

When the home team is favored by more 10 points or more, they cover the spread only 45% of the time. Around this point, it may prove profitable to start betting the visiting team. Finally, when favored by 15 points, the home team covers 35-40% of the time. Betting the other side is almost certainly profitable in the long term.

Don't laugh too much, this is a terrible day in a fellow fans life.

Dumb move yes.

Human being, yes. His life just got a lot more complicated.

I wish he had asked some people here before placing the bet. Never take a team 90% of pundits like, or a 15+ spread in the pros.

BuffaloRush made a non betters mistake. Many of us have been there, and it can be devastating.

This ^

I hope for his family's sake the whole thing was just interdats attention seeking.
