Albany,n.y.
McCown did such a great job mentoring Sam Darnold with the Jets, that's all he had to bring up in his interview to get the Texans attention. 🙃

Billzgobowlin
I have no problem with this if there is reasoning to it. Best man doesn't always have to be a coordinator
jkeerie
The main criteria the Texans are using for their coaching search is the answer to the question, "Will you take the job?" If the candidate answers "Yes" he's hired. No viable candidate would ever consider that job. The Texans made it even less attractive by firing Culley after one season. 2
BuffaloBillyG
I want to see this happened because I actually like McCown. Seems like a really good dude. But an equal parts of me wants to see it happen just because I like to watch the world burn.
dje85
May as well just choose the guy you like personally with no coaching experience at all. I mean, not like any competent hire could turn that dumpster fire around any time soon for at least another couple years. Little to no talent on that team and what little they do have is still likely out the door this off season. About as full rebuild starting this off season as is possible. Warcodered
I mean it's not that I don't think he couldn't become a coach, I just think it's a leap to go from assistant high school coach to Head Coach in the NFL.

JohnBonhamRocks
Does he have a pulse? OK… can you move his hand to make a signature? Great, he’s hired.
Jdragon2
I read that as Josh McDaniels because my brain couldn't process how ridiculous it is that it is McCown instead. 2 1 2

FilthyBeast
This is strange, I wonder if the Texans overplayed their hand and moved on from Culley because they thought for sure Flores would want to be there but then possibly declined? (specially because he knows Watson is never playing there again).

Big Turk
Just a complete show of ineptitude on their part. Really? A dude who has never even been a coach? This cannot be coming from their GM, must be an owner decision.

dave mcbride
Honestly, this isn't that much different than the Doug Pederson hire, which was similarly laughed at. Pederson has a SB ring and made the playoffs three times in five years. 8 minutes ago, saundena said: Nobody else is probably even remotely interested in working inside of a dumpster fire The QB -- Mills -- looks like he might be OK and maybe even good. He was the #1 recruit in the country coming out of HS, after all. I think he dropped a bit because he didn't play that much in college (partly due to covid in 2020). His rookie numbers were pretty good, especially considering context and the rought start he got off too (i.e., the Buffalo game). https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MillDa02.htm. Take away that Buffalo game, and his TD/INT ratio was 16/6 and his completion percentage is around 70. The equal of Mac Jones, basically, at least statistically. He has more arm talent than Jones, and if you look at the final four games of the season, he produced at a near-elite level. @GunnerBill, what say you about Mills?
