Does anybody want to tell me again how good Flores is?

This is hilarious. Since doing an ā€œamazingā€ job his first year in Miami this guy has to be considered one of the worst head coaches in the league. Iā€™ve posted many times before about how badly he botched Tuaā€™s first year and how he had his team completely unprepared in last yearā€™s finale, but the embarrassment of losing to the Jags takes the cake. Flores sucks and eff the Fish.Ā

Flores success was directly tied to Fitzpatrick. Ryan turned around a horrible team and pulled the locker room together two years ago and again last year he was either winning the game or coming in relief to win it. Tua isn't even a team captan. Horrible organization from the top down.

A lot of Dolphins fans have convinced themselves Herbert would not be any better than Tua if he was playing on that offense.Ā

Ā

Ā

That's a standard losers lament.

Ā

We were even hearing that here on TSW as recently as a few weeks ago with regard to the Bills passing on Patrick Mahomes.Ā

I for life of me cant figure out why theyvlet Fitzpatrick walk. He made them competitive. They are so much better with Fitz than Tua.

That, and Tua just blows as a NFL QB, the guys fragile as balsa wood, and heā€™s physically weak compared to any real QB with arm arroganceā€¦

I hope they hire every belichick acolyte from here to eternity.Ā

Ā

Acolyte??Ā  Def.- a person assisting the celebrant in a religious service or procession.

Well done! Had to Google that.

Although I would hardly call Belichick religious, but good word!

To be fair, religious isn't always "good" religious lol. But I get it...

He isn't. Ā I said the same thing the first time they pulled Tua and put Fitz back in. Ā You either try to win football games and get to the playoffs or you try to groom a rookie QB. Ā Can't play QB carousel to do both. Ā I knew right then and there that he wasn't a good coach.

The problem with Flores is that he never seemed to have a long term plan in any way. Ā After his team overachieved in 2019, he hired Chan to run a Taylor-made for offense for Fitzpatrickā€¦knowing full well that the team would likely be drafting a QB. The QB drafted was a bad fit for the offense and he never had any plan for his development.

Ā

Then after the Tua failure in 2020, he hires two unknown commodities to call plays and run the offense to terrible results. Ā
Ā

To his credit Flores was a great motivator and helped his team overachieve at times - especially in 2019. Ā Heā€™s also been a good defensive coach and his teamā€™s ability to force turnovers (many times against poor competition) likely masked some of the teams problems. Ā

I think overall heā€™s an ok coach that in a bad situation with Miami. Ā A big part of his predicament is his fault , though the GM has been terrible as well

This was a HUGE red flag for me. Ā I loved how many in the media brushed it off as though it was no big deal, when it could very well be the nail in his coffin.Ā
Ā

When you switch to a rookie QB you canā€™t give them the hook in a close game. Ā You need to ride or die with them.Ā

I am sure you mean in the NFL, but Saban has done okay for himself at Alabama.Ā

Thatā€™s college, itā€™s like being king of the playground, so it doesnā€™t count for anything in all reality.Ā

McD went 6-10 in year 2. Unless Flores has lost the locker room he will be back.

So youā€™re comparing McDermottā€™s Year 2 to Floresā€™ Year 3?

Ā

Besides, McDermott finished 10-6 and made the playoffs in his 3rd season and his franchise QBā€™s 2nd. Ā
Ā

Flores lost to a team that hasnā€™t won for nearly 2 seasons

Fitzpatrick and turnoversā€¦. Even when Fitzpatrick was ā€œbenched,ā€ Miami still won with Tua thanks to a defense that forced turnovers against average to bad teams. Ā
Ā

It was pretty clear that their model of winning wasnā€™t sustainable and there was no better example than Week 17 in 2020. Ā
Ā

I think if anything the 10-6 record last season was a bit of mirage and raised expectations a little higher than they shouldā€™ve been

I need to see Mia win some games so they don't have very high pick that helps that more in getting Watson.

Ā

We want Miami losing every game they can this year - to the point of replacing Jacksonville and going 1-16 after winning week 1.

Ā

That Miami pick goes to Philly and with their other potential pick makes them more likely to get Watson - potentially 3 first round picks in the top 10.

Ā

We also want teams like Seattle (NYJ have their #1) and SF (Miami has their #1) to get better and get more wins.

Ā

My biggest takeaway is the bungle of a job Miami did this off season after making a big trade with SF and making a huge profit with Houstonā€™s pick - to give most of that profit up for a WR was just dumb.

Ā

That trade could end up being the biggest reason they canā€™t Ā get Watson and canā€™t get a new QB next year. Ā Maybe it all works out, but currently they screwed them selves and I love it.

If those 22 women have anything to say Warson's next game might be against the Bulls......the guards team ;)

Yesterday was a super weird situation for me.

Ā

Team 1- Ten win team the year before with coach of the year candidate.Ā  Have their "franchise QB" back from injury.

Ā

Team 2- First overall draft pick and on 20 game losing streak.Ā  Rookie QB playing under hack college coach more known for cheating on his wife than getting wins.Ā  Home field advantage lost to neutral site game.Ā  Other first round pick out with injury.

Ā

I bet actual currency on Team 2, and WON.Ā  Legit "buy a cheeseburger" moolah in my pocket from being more confident at this point in Team 2.

I confess...

Ā

Last year I read/heard stories about how the Dolphins were the following the Bills blueprint and that Flores was South Florida's McDermott: a team-first, follow-the-process, culture builder.

Ā

When the fins finished 10-6 last year - doubling their win total of the year before, I believed those stories.Ā  Silly me.

Ā

Btw, as a reminder, the only time McD didn't get the Bills into the playoffs was 2018 when the we had the lowest active cap spending - and arguably the weakest roster - in the NFL.Ā  Just earning 6 wins that season was a solid bit of coaching.Ā Ā

That disciplinarian "I am smarter and tougher than anyone else" act works for a while but then wears thin.Ā  Reports are that that is what eventually wore thin with Brady.Ā  Bellichick had Brady to back him up (for most of the run) and they won.Ā  But with that kind of coach things tend to snowball when a team starts losing.Ā  It's hard to listen to a coach who screams at you because he knows better than everyone else, when his record is 1-5.Ā  That's always been the problem with the Belichick coaching tree.

There is far too much talent on that team to have only one win. At some point you cannot keep playing man to man and wondering wh it doesn't work. Has to be coaching. Flores is probably done.

But that the thing they don't just play man to man. They play zone as well. The problem is the times that they SHOULD be playing man they play zone and vise versa. Why that is, I have no idea.
