JMF2006
Some mocks had him going in the 50's Great value for Beane and the Bills at 96 and it fills a big need and creates some competition with A Washington for playing time. Love the pick.
GunnerBill
Great pick. Think the Bills did a terrific job of staying BPA and looking at where the board left them value and not reaching for need. Everyone knows they need depth at receiver and corner but the talent worthy of a day two pick had kind of hollowed out there. Staying on point and taking Harrison Phillips was a win. Other than poor old Maurice Hurst who it looks like might not get drafted (though if he is there in the 7th you absolutely take him) he was the BPA by my board. freddyjj
9 hours ago, Mij yllek said: Maybe this is why he dropped....still well worth the pick Analysis Phillips is one of the more polarizing prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft’s DT class. It all comes down to how highly you value his production and his high-effort style of play. Those traits are valuable, but they don’t make an elite prospect on their own. Phillips’ lack of high-end athletic ability makes him a limited player in the NFL, and I’m not sure that I see him as anything more than an average NFL starter. There is room for improvement with Phillips: his hand technique is still pretty raw, and he could certainly become an above-average run defender by more consistently playing with better leverage. But his size and frame likely limit him to a role as 3T in the NFL—and if he isn’t a plus pass rusher, that means he’s a base package player only. There is certainly room for a player like Phillips on an NFL roster as a base package 3T with potential for growth, but those types of players don’t demand high draft selections. A team could certainly benefit from adding a player like Phillips in the Day 2 range, as he’s ready to start right away on base packages and would provide valuable depth to the defensive line. I just don’t understand the first round hype that Phillips has been getting, as he’s clearly a prospect with fairly limited upside—particularly as a pass rusher. So here's what the experts said in 2006 about Meatball. Almost verbatim what they say about Horrible Harry! Full Name: Kyle Williams School: LSUHt: 6-1 Wt: 295 40: 5.25 Yr: 4Sr Pos: Hard working, scrappy defender who plays with good fundametals. Quick off the snap, gets leverage on opponents and displays solid hand technique. Tenacious, goes hard until the whistle blows and chases to get involved in the action. Displays an array of moves getting off blocks. Makes plays laterally up and down the line of scrimmage. Neg: Not strong at the point and driven off the ball by opponents. Marginal skills as a pass rusher. Analysis: A high revving defender, Williams' ability to get leverage on opponents gives him an upper hand. May never be a starter at the next level yet his tenacity and approach to the game will find him a spot on an NFL roster.

I love Stanford guys, true student athletes. Minus is possibly the most important pick in Bills’ history, I love our draft. And that is what worries me about having a defensive head coach be so involved with personnel. Eric Moulds on my A**
At what point has this guy been just "average"? I mean for real.. 100 tackles last year, the team leader in that regard as a DT!! Out of our 3 picks so far Harrison is the one I have the most faith in. I believe in the other 2 as well but Horrible Harry will make an immediate impact. At first I have felt McD focused too much on character and will bypass very good players with what he deems as bad attitudes. But the more I see the team he is putting together, the more I understand. This is the Super Bowl winning formula. Distractions are so limited, work ethics are contagious. I think we see a huge leap for this team in coming years. I no longer believe that last year was a fluke or just luck. I my friends Trust The Process!

Or both? lol Clearly projects as a very good run defender at the next level. As a pass rusher he can dial up the area code but does not finish the way you would like. For now and unless he develops this aspect of his game he is a two down rotational DT who may not see the field much on passing downs. He should be a better run defender than Kyle but won't be as good getting after the passer in all likelihood. If he could do that he'd be gone first half of the first. He has great intangibles and a high motor. He's absolutely a quality player, the kind that can be expected to play a long time in the league. An excellent pick at 96. Hitting on players like this in the mid-later rounds speaks well of what the Bills braintrust and their assistants are doing. Getting him where they did also involves a little luck to be sure but clearly there is more than luck involved. Getting their guy and saving 22 which they then turn into Edmunds is a master stroke by Beane IMO. Edmunds is a top 5-10 talent with stratospheric upside. Never thought we would land him. Not really the same at all and people are being a bit lazy with their analyses of him just because he's a white blue-collar lunch pal type player. He's not Kyle Williams 2.0, certainly not even as a prospect. Phillips is a 1T run stuffing big ugly. Kyle is/was a 3T quick off the snap penetrating DT. Although this analysis says Kyle has marginal skills as a pass rusher as a prospect, it's his quick off the snap ability, that has allowed that to improve upon. Unfortunately Phillips doesn't have that and is not the type of athlete, he has to relay on his power. Saying that, Phillips is still a very good player and will rotate with Star, keeping them both fresh and freeing up the LBs, so they can roam.
