As an adult I have no desire for autographs. That may be because when I was 8 years old doug flutie blew off me and my dad at St. John fisher and even said something rude to my dad. Canโ€™t remember what though

Should not have been wearing that Rob Johnson jersey...ย ๐Ÿ˜

I'm not gonna lie...I have never understood the desire for an autograph if you're an adult.

As a kid, sure, but as an adult? Even if it's your biggest hero in the world, what good is their writing their name on one of your items? "This pen ink once belonged to Josh Allen!"ย ๐Ÿ˜†

Now a handshake, a conversation, a shared moment, a picture with the person...these things I understand. But an autograph? Why?

ย

The conversation and shared moment I

definitely see as appealing, but I think asking for a picture is just as weird as the autograph request unless youโ€™re blowing it up and hanging it in a man cave I guess.

ย

ย I got a Sammy Morris autograph when I was in my 20s, I just happened to be in a mall in Hamilton Ontario and there was a table with 2 or 3 Bills there signing. I said to Sammy โ€œ nice to meet ya, wow you really came outta nowhere this past seasonโ€

ย

ย He actually got a little offended and told me he hadnโ€™t as he awkwardly smirked. I realized I offended him and just smiled and thanked him.

ย That ended my autograph seeking career.

I still have a hat signed by Marv and Football by Kelly, Bruce and Thurman my older brother got me at a signing event... That being said only thing I ever got signed myself was a Congressional Card signed by Jack Kemp who gave me his number if I ever needed any help... gracious man... nice conversation but never used the number...

And ps I didnt ask for it. ย I have met a number of athletes and famous people over the years and never ask for autographs

Your an adult go use the money from your adult job to buy one.ย  Let the kids meet the players.ย  So odd to me when adults, especially adults out of their 20's idolize athletes who are 20, 30 or 40 years younger than them.ย  Its borderline weird.

same with jersey wearing really. Why would I want to as a nearly 50 year old dude wear some other dude's name on my back?

ย

No problem with wearing t-shirts, hoodies, hats, whatever. But jerseys have no appeal at this point

I agree i'd have no interest in getting an autgraph but I do like collecting jerseys and wearing them on game day.ย  More so about how they look than the name on the back for me though

The same clowns are always at Sabres โ€œcamp/practice/after gamesโ€ with their binders of pics & cards, and backpacks full of assorted crap, looking to make a buck. If I was a player, Iโ€™d never sign a single thing for these people.ย
ย

Even worse when said people bring their kids along, in an attempt to fool the players.ย

Fwiw, when I attended the joint Bills/Panthers practice in Spartanburg SC in 2019, JA walked the rope line by us and made it crystal clear he would only be signing for kids, and stuck to that. But while he passed over the adults, he made sure to speak with/interact with each and every youngster thereโ€”and I totally respect that. Meanwhile I was still able to get Brandon Beane to sign my Allen jersey, so all good ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ˜….ย

To each their own with jerseys but I generally agree with you. I wear two Bills jerseys now being Jim Kelly (90s blue) and Stevie Johnson (white 2011) and both are older then me, I think it would be a little weird now to wear Josh as im a decade older but that is just my opinion. Now I have no desire to get another jersey don't see the need but def buy t shirts hats hoodies etc..

I'm actually shocked that autographs are still a thing

ย

Always thought of it as a way to remember/prove that you met someone famous. With cell phones being a camera and the popularity of selfies would imagine that would take the place of autographs in a lot of waysย

ย

For me it has. I have pictures with Lorezno Alexander (with my wife and son), Jim Kelly with my wife and friends, and a got a selfie with Crowder this camp plus a close up of Von. Pictures serve more meaningful to me.

^^^ This is what the training camp autograph line is for. Itโ€™s about the kids. ย I remember going to Kellyโ€™s first training camp in 86 and getting his, Greg Bellโ€™s and Bruce Smithโ€™s autograph. I have no clue where any of the autographs are currently but I will always remember the interaction between 13 year old me and my โ€œherosโ€. They were all super nice.

Before 2018 the only jersey I had was a bootleg Trent Edwards jersey that a friend gave me.ย  I wore it one game & he got cut, so I cut his name off the back since his name was sewed in on top of the rest of the jersey.ย

Then came 2018 & I watched the Vikings game & I got so excited that we finally had a QB (because I'm a visual fan I was sold on Josh long before the stat boys) that I went out & bought a Josh Allen jersey that week.ย ย

Are you suggesting that people should actually know someone/their situation before judging them?ย  That is ***** crazy!

He had plenty of time to bring up the sick kid at home.ย  He didn't.ย  He's just a creepy fanboy.

I heard the call when it was live. It was awkward and stupid. However it did remind me of something. During camp in Allen's rookie year, a few friends of mine went and brought their kids. They stayed to get autographs and got a bunch of signatures from players. They were trying to get Allen's, but for whatever reason they couldn't (big crowd etc). Someone had told them that Allen could only sign for kids and it was part of his contract. It sounded like a bunch of bs to me, but maybe there's something to it? It still sounds like bs to me, but who knows. Maybe they don't want people trying to make a quick buck off a signed Allen jersey ๐Ÿคท. Still makes no sense, but just passing along info I was toldย

My coolest celebrity encounters when I was a kid happened because my mom worked at a radio station and was able to get me access at events and signings.

I met Rod Martin (former Raiders linebacker, three interceptions in Super Bowl XV). I didn't know who he was and, as a Bills fan, had little interest in finding out. I DID notice he had a Super Bowl ring though, and being a kid with no sense of boundaries, I asked if I could l try it on. He said yes! I have a picture of me wearing Rod Martin's Super Bowl ring.ย ๐Ÿ˜†

I also got to meet several wrestlers. Mick Foley and the Rock chief among them. They were both enormous! Mick Foley was WWF Tag Team Champion at the time, so -- again, beingย  a kid and having no sense of boundaries -- I asked if I could take a picture wearing the championship belt, which he kindly obliged.

Mind you, I would never attempt either of these things as an adult, but it sure made for some cool pictures as a kid!

They publish all their episodes as podcasts.ย  You should be able to find it there.ย

ย

Also, they are 100% right. If you are a grown adult asking another adult for an autograph then you need to grow a little thicker skin when you get ignored for the kids.ย

Kids should come first but there are some dudes that like stuff like that for their man caves. But you get pieces of crap that sell stuff like that for money which I think is a big reason that players don't do it. I don't have an issue with adults getting autographs but the kids should come first and if they don't get to the adults because of the kids then that's fine

well guess what? If youโ€™re one of those adult dudes that wants some signed bauble you are a actual big boy presumably with a job and money and you can go online and buy any number of autographed things. Something that a 9 year old probably canโ€™t do.
ย

It appears some are still missing the central point - Allen and others have limited time after these practices and canโ€™t sign for everyone. They arenโ€™t going to disappoint some kid in favor of some idiot and his girlfriend. Simple as that.ย

I get the point completely. You misunderstood what I said because you knew you were gonna come at me with backlash. Did you miss the part where I said kids should always come first? Or that if they don't get to adults because they sign for kids first, it's ok? All I said is some dudes like stuff like that for their man caves. I didn't say I would knock kids out of the way or even go for an autograph. People are so sensitive to this topic. You act like you wanna set my house on fire because I simply stated it's cool to have in man caves. Jesus Christ man

I was not even disagreeing with you - just pointing out that adults have more means and options than little kids to get this crap if they really want it
