John Brown released from 3rd team

I was not a big fan of letting him go … but the fact that the Raiders, Broncos, and Jaguars have all had him on their team and subsequently cut him is shocking and perhaps indicates there is a decline that theBills front office noticed before making the cut.

Best wishes to him .. truly appreciated his contributions while he was with the Bills

That's got to be hard.  One year he piles up 1,000 yards as a starter on a dynamic offense.  Two years later, he can't find a spot on a 53 man squad.

Well, he had an 8 year NFL career. That's way longer than the average. You're gonna hit the wall eventually. Guys in his 30s. Coaches and GMs always go with youth.

Some guys just need the right team, he needed to be here or the chiefs for the long ball.

Where the Bills miss him are on those WR screens.     He had some big TD's on those in games against Baltimore, Seattle and NYJ.    If I recall they tried to run a couple in the Tennessee game this season and ended up killing drives tryin'.    They just don't have a good option for those on the roster.    Diggs can do it but he draws so much attention that it makes it more difficult than doing it with Brown on the opposite side of the field.

If someone gets injured on the Bills I could see him getting picked up in an emergency role.

Maybe.........but they've been missing some of the things that he brought to the table all year and they didn't pick him up then.

I was a proponent of keeping him on a reduced salary.  Props to McD and Beane for seeing something I did not, and bringing in Sanders who still seems to have the talent and appears to be a solid locker room guy.

Actually Sanders has basically produced about the same per game as John Brown did last year....50 yards a game.........but with a lower catch % (Brown 63.5% to Sanders 59%).

Brown was hurt and we were down on his production.    So it's all relative.

Sanders had a very nice stretch in October but yikes..........he's been invisible for a month other than missing drive killing blocks.

WR is a big need for next season.

I saw him get hot in the face with the ball a few times last year after he returned from injury.  That probably did him in here.

Give me Dotson from Penn St.  looks like a perfect fit in the offense.

Fact is, John Brown was a one trick pony. Straight line speed. Never questioned Emmanuel Sanders replacing him for a second. Sanders is a complete receiver. Much better route runner. Light years ahead of Brown on contested catches and not afraid to run across the middle and get hit. With age and injuries, Brown's one skill has eroded to a point where it doesn't make up for his inadequacies in other facets of the game like it used to. Will always look at his couple years here fondly. But his time has passed.

He got a good second contract after his one year flyer in BAL from us and had a career year here as a WR1. Man made his money and should probably hang it up and enjoy his shekels for a bit and plan for his life after football.

I will miss his TD dances and completely smoking Gilmore for a TD against the Pats.

In the third round after we draft oline high?

Dotson seems like a first rounder........nothing wrong with taking a WR1 type in round 1.

There are usually quite a few very nice interior lineman available in free agency..........All Pro's even............teams draft them early but then often let them walk because they desperately need to spend UFA dollars at high $ positions.......or their team just falls apart and they figure they have bigger concerns than paying market rate for a very good guard.

The ideal formula is to draft your QB/passrusher1/LT/CB1/WR1 with your #1's..........then extend them a little early so you get a bargain rate..........then if you come up short at lesser $ positions like interior OL you can buy high quality at that position in UFA.

We definitely could use him in our offense at Minimum Vet.   He could replace Kumerow in the lineup

John Brown's body lies a-moldering in the grave

Now if he was a DB and was perpetually getting toasted, then maybe smoldering would be right.

This.  Brown's effectiveness would be diminished even more by teams playing two deep safeties most of the time.

I thought it was pretty clear last year it was over for him. Lots of niggling injuries and even when he was healthy he struggled to separate. Will always appreciate what he did for the team in 2019, but some people overreacted, remember the "John Brown is a true #1 receiver" topics? He had a good career, was a good complimentary receiver and picked up the slack for us in 2019 when we were starting the process of upgrading our receiver talent.

I am on the either a LT or a WR in round 1 train. I could, as we discussed elsewhere, be sold on a corner but would need the draft to fall in a very specific way. I'm not sure I see the argument for any other position in the 1st this year. They need to start putting more elite talent around Josh Allen.
