I think they just weren’t gonna keep 7 DEs no matter what.

I’ll echo others in saying I wish Addison were the one to go instead.

I wonder who takes Bam’s role on special teams, and whether this means they’ll keep six instead of five linebackers.

You can only keep so many ST focused players when you have SB aspirations and need guys that can actually contribute in live game action, that's why I also think guys like Taiwan Jones are going to be gone soon as well.

As for Addison, I wouldn't be surprised if he essentially this year's Trent Murphy by midseason (assume he is in fact safe). Because no way we are wasting reps on him the glut of young talent that is ready to contribute out of the gate.

How is this a discussion?

People here have a preference over the coach and gm who just took us to a conference championship? The guys who get to see him work every day, his daily one on ones, work ethic, culture fit with the team, etc... Sorry they didn't include you in the discussion.

Flipping a 7th rounder ST specialist for a 6th is a steal. Go get the next guy in 2022.

Respectfully, I disagree.

Special teams reps ARE "live game action".

A big kick return -- or a tackle on a kick return that prevents a touchdown -- can be the difference between a win and a loss.

I believe that special teams will always be important to Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott, and rightly so. There are three phases in football, and all three matter.

How dare people have a discussion on a message board.

I didn’t think he would make the team.  Great special teams guy but never thought he was much at DE….and it’s a crowded unit.

He looked very good in preseason action, seemed to have a couple of snaps a game where the tackle barely touched him as he blew past, winning immediately off the snap.

He's flashed in preseason before then the regular season comes and he's invisible. I didn't expect him to make the team and I'm sure this is why they were talking him up so much.

I may not agree completely but that's a perfectly valid assessment, so I won't belabour it. Besides, your handle reminds me of The Zombies whom I do quite like.

And Daryl Johnson will go on to lead the Panthers in sacks for the next 10 years.

you may be right but it is what it is--   he wasnt going to come in the top 8 in sacks for Buffalo this year and next year we wouldnt want to give him a second contract.

Im not that concerned.  May make a pro bowl as a special teamer but thats it imo.

Overall, it brings clarity to the bottom of the roster.

I think that Brandon Beane, as well as most of the commenters on this board like their chances with the 6th round pick being more productive...

I'm mostly kidding. Buffalo just has a long history of trading guys with potential who move on to far exceed expectations... Keeping 7 DE's wold have been too much.

We have a rare problem of too many good special teamers and a glut at defensive line.

We got value for a 7th round pick we were likely going to need to cut. I'll take it.

People need to understand these ST guys to be useful also have to fit into the guys that dress on Sunday.

I can't help but trust Beane and McDermott with this move.
