Why was Hyde in the game in the middle of the 4th quarter of a blow out game when the secondary is already injury riddled?

Happened with 5:22 left in 3rd quarter up 34-7 on the Milano pick 6 drive.  It's a bummer but that's football.

It's fine. The Dolphins don't pose any real threat to Buffalo's dominance of the division. Their defense is nowhere close to ours, and Tua is nowhere close to Allen.

The 2022 Dolphins are just the drought era Bills, occasionally stringing together a few wins, getting some media attention, and saying "BRING ON THE PATS!". The Bills, meanwhile, are what the Pats were then -- an inevitable machine that just grinds onward, quietly crushing opponents, taking their souls, and showing them what pretenders they are.

Let them and their fans be excited. The AFC East is the Bills' division for the foreseeable future.

I think they are better than the drought era Bills. The drought era Bills never had a Tyreek Hill or a Jalen Waddle let alone two of them. I have thought they were probably a playoff team all along. They won 10 and 9 games the last two years and then added an elite playmaker, they are a legitimate team.

But as for them contending for the division? Yea. I agree. I don't give them much of a shot at that.

Pure speculation here, but if -IF- Micah’s 2nd opinion option is akin to Eric Wood’s 2nd opinion, (🙏) does this force management to pay the going rate for Poyer for a few years? Obviously, we have fine young players here ready to take the next step, but Hyde is a likely Ring of Honor candidate and critical to our team. Replacing him will be a huge challenge!

Best Wishes, Micah! GET WELL SOON!!

The 2nd opinion component could really be a multitude of things.  Micah has had prior neck injuries.  For all we know, he has his own specialist/therapist/etc that he consults with in the offseason re: his neck, and he wants that individual's opinion given the background/familiarity. m

Bottom line, there will be several "markers" over the next few days:

1. today will likely reveal more if he's practicing in any capacity / or at least out with his teammates (ie: Dane yesterday).  And any comments from Coach.

2. IR designation: team isn't going to wait around past this weekend, "IF" this is serious.  No news is good news; likely means back within a few weeks.

I think we will know more today, Micah is a team leader and think Coach will pass along more info.

IMO, no.  We have too many other guys at premium positions who either need to be extended/re-signed or who already have been.  If I had to pick a position where we just "get by" with draft picks and mid-tier FAs indefinitely, it would be a) RB and b) safety.  This is an unpleasant part of the business side of the league, but I think the right long-run move is to be ready to move on from Poyer and Hyde.

Obviously these are two great guys who came along at just the right time for this franchise.  I wish both of them well regardless of how things play out.

I think there plan though was to stagger the loss. Let Jordan walk after this year, let a young guy learn from Micah and then let Micah move on a year later. Having to replace the pair of them as individuals and losing the amazing chemistry they have together in one go is almost like losing three players. If we end up in that place it is a hell of a job to try and replace them.

Serious question for those who know.  I'm not trying to be a doom and gloomer and hope for the best for MH.  With that said...

If it's the worst case scenario and MH has to retire, how does that affect the cap situation?  Would it be some type of injury settlement or are the Bills still on the hook for his contract?

I can only think of two reasons a player would want a second opinion from a doctor:

1.  The doctor gave him really bad news (season or career ending), and he wants to see if another specialist can fix the injury with less missed time on the field.

2.  The doctor said everything was good to go, but he still feels like something isn't right physically and wants to double-check.

It's hard for me to imagine a player getting a good report from the doctor, feeling great physically and still saying... "I need to miss practice this week and go get another opinion."  Hopefully I'm wrong.  But the vague way Sean McDermott apparently shut-down media questions about Hyde's absence yesterday also seemed really odd.  My first thought was that something more serious was going on, and coach didn't want to talk about it.  And that was before news broke about Hyde getting a second opinion.

Of course this is all speculation, and maybe I'm just fearing the worst news.  I'm getting post-Thanksgiving vibes, just like I did after we destroyed the Saints...but couldn't completely enjoy it, because of the coming bad news about Tre White's knee.

It depends on what the Bills want to do. If they cut him his dead cap is over $7M for 2023. My guess is they would try to do an injury settlement and keep him on the roster on IR for 2023 and then retire before 2024 season. Think this is what Eric Wood and Kam Chancellor did.

Usually opposite tbh.  Most seek second opinion when they want to play and team says they need surgery.

OR like I mentioned above its a Eric Woods type of situation where it was recommended he hang them up.

Especially with the Bills...they seem to err very strongly on the side of player safety and making sure they are as healthy as possible once they are done playing football so they can live a good life.  I get the sense Beane/McD really care about all of their players in ways many teams don't, and that doesn't go unnoticed by the players.

Or Aaron Williams...

They need a loss to the Jets Jags or Browns to knock some sense into their mind.

Yeah because the defense and the rest of the offense don’t do anything to help win games…,

I don't understand how Hyde was listed as day to day instead of out indefinitely if things are serious enough to warrant a second opinion.

Perhaps he wants a second opinion to make sure he is okay to play. Put yourself in his shoes - you think you may have a serious neck injury. The Bills doctor says you're good to play, but maybe you want another doctor to tell you the same thing. It is your spine.

Speculation, yes, but why do players typically get second opinions? I can recall zero times when it was reported that a player got a good report from team doctors and then wanted to get a second opinion. It's always the reverse.

The level of denial from Bills fans in this thread is both cute and embarrassing. I'll delete my account if Hyde is getting a second opinion because he got a good report and just wants to double check it, lol

There is, and always has been, a large segment of this fanbase that literally cannot distinguish between "that which is" and "that which I want to be."

Well, he's got a great supporting cast all over the place, but sure!  The vast bulk of what we have going on right now comes to 1 guy and only 1 guy: Josh.  It will remain that way for the rest of his career.

When he starts to go south, so will the team unless these guys pull off a miracle and replace him with a new version of himself.  It has happened!

SF: Montana to Steve Young

GB: Favre then Rodgers

INDY: Manning and then Andrew Luck

To be fair, “day to day” or “week to week” are both indefinite as well.

He was not listed as day to day. McDermott said in a press conference that he was "taking it day by day," in other words "taking his rehab one day at a time," in other words he wasn't actually saying anything at all.

A fellow Bills fan friend of mind just text me "Hyde is out.  If these pu**ies cant beat us this week, they never will"

We already talked about Hyde yesterday, so felt like he got new info or something.  Has anyone seen anything?  I asked him if he heard that was confirmed, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Nothing new...quick recap:

1. Coach declared out (during 10:30am interview with Sal): Hyde, Dane, Phillips

2. Pre practice press conference, Coach said (paraphrasing): all others will be on the field in some capacity.  He also said 2-3 players may be uncertain on status, even after today.  So sounds like gametime decision for a few.

3. Poyer: Coach said his foot injury happened during Titans game, has been getting more info throughout this week. Coach made it sound like Jordan might be a gametime decision, perhaps not 100% even if he plays.

4. Milano: should be full go

5. Hyde/Jackson: Coach was asked if any concern longterm/IR with these guys, and he "didn't want to get into it".  Jackson was then seen at practice (light stretching in red jersey- Matt Parrino twitter).

My guess from all this:

1. Offense: should have all guys back, Davis, Morse, Knox

2. Defense: think Ed, Poyer and Settle will be gametime decisions.  Hopefully all 3 can suit up

3. Hyde: mystery still, hopefully he's not a surprise IR tomorrow.  Think they will make a decision (hence 2nd opinion) on IR before this game, to create the roster spot

4. Jackson: encouraging to see him at practice, albeit just light jogging.  Would guess he is not going on IR, hopeful he can be back next week or for Steelers (his hometown team)
