Due process is for courts. This is about the team. He is a distraction and a PUNTER. A great punter is worth very little on a high scoring team like the Bills.

However, a situation like this needs to be handled the same regardless of player/position. It’s doesn’t help build chemistry/morale treating people differently based on the position they play.

Imagine Josh being accused of something like this. Should we expect the Bills to get rid of him immediately because of the bad look to the organization? I know many here who are so willing to move on from Araiza wouldn’t feel the same if it was Josh.

I know for a fact I wouldn’t want to work with a company/organization that handles hard times differently based on who you are/what you do. Fortunately, the Bills are not such an organization.

the best case scenario is he is just a guy who bangs underage girls, passes them around to his friends, and doesn’t wear a condom when he has a std. that is the best case!

This is BS; we have no idea yet if most of that is actually true.

I'm not defending him. I'm defending truth and justice. We have a legal process for a reason. This isn't the wild west.

Hear, hear. It sounds bad. The evidence that is out there does not look good for him. But the rush to let the court of public opinion decide is, as I have argued elsewhere, dangerous for us as a society. I hope the process plays out and if indeed it is as it seems then may Araiza face the full consequences both civil and criminal.

Interesting thought. Medical records of the accused will probably put some of this together as well.

True, but what type of guy with an STD has sex with a girl without telling her before it. A low character guy. Get rid of this clown.

I don't think it's known when he found out he had the STD.  He may not have known.  It is one of many pieces of info out there that has not been addressed or explained.

I think you may get your wish.  The Bills lawyers will dig deep and get data that we don't have and will advise the Pegula's.   Neither McDermott nor Beane will decide this alone.

For the most part, no one cares about the punter. The specialists have their own little world.  But the coaches and front office will be asked about this.

Again, we can’t presume that nobody in the room cares about the punter. That’s just more projection. I can project the opposite, that there are players who might rally behind the idea of a teammate being convicted in the court of public opinion.

As for the coaches and front office, after the first 50 responses of “no comment” or “can’t comment” the questions will ebb and eventually die out.

1.  We lost a hearbreaker in 2022.

2. We had a mass shooting in Buffalo.

3. Our owner had a life threatening health issue.

We don't need some moron punter distracting a team, a city, an owner, and a fanbase that could really use a good news run at our first World Championship.

My guess is he will thankfully be cut by the Bills or suspended by the NFL before week 1.  No way the team and league allow a punter to distract from opening night of NFL Season.

I don't know why this is so hard for people to accept. The mob justice urge will never die, it seems.

This is so much bigger than a "distraction" or an inconvenience to your favorite football team. You do what's right regardless of how inconvenient it is. It's not right to fire someone without the facts first.

This is about PEOPLE.  The punter is a PERSON too and deserves the same rights as everyone else.  The fact you completely lack any sense of empathy for the possibility of someone having their life ruined from a false charge is alarming.

Here's some harsh truth..... I just don't care what happens to Matt Araiza.  There's two people in this world that care about me, my wife and daughter. That's it.  If I was just accused of this heinous chit, Matt Araiza wouldn't be on the "Life of BIGFOOTspaceman" message board advocating my innocence.

Bud, you’re like 10 posts deep and they’re all in this thread. I think YOU need a distraction. Let’s trust the Bills on this and wait until we actually hear from them before making them cut someone. I’m with you: if he was involved I hope he never sees a snap in the NFL, but I’m also willing to wait more than 24 hours before making that decision.

Her earrings, nose ring, and bellybutton ring were all ripped out.

Her friends who were looking for her found her bloody and crying. She immediately told them she was raped. She told her father, the police were notified later that day and she was examined. It definitely doesn't sound like a made up story to me. Her father notified the University police by phone who filed no report and later said that the dad notifying them by phone was not the same as making a report. SDSU was undefeated and ranked at the time and are being accused of trying to sweep it under the rug. The story of the gang rape was known on campus and several athletes of various sports complained to the Univ wanting to know why nothing was being done about it.

She is accusing Araiza of leading her to a bedroom and throwing her face down on the bed to be violently gang raped. She also suspects that a drink he had given her was drugged.

Why the Bills would want to be at the center of this for a punter is beyond me.

Again, not familiar with it. But does that mean anyone with a Jim Kelly handle can’t be upset with any negative story? Because there are plenty of Kelly fans on here and there are plenty of bad Kelly stories out there.

There are no negative stories like this out there about Kelly, to the best of my knowledge.

This is in addition to the one he pleaded guilty to.

Agree.  Can you imagine some of these people on jury?

I get the notion that this issue stains our team on our most hyped and optimistic season in 30 years, but the fire him now comments are over the top.   The Bills will likely learn a lot in the next few days.   Araiza could be gone by Monday, or sooner, or not.   I trust the guys running the show to handle this.   I trust the owners too.

The goalposts of this thing will forever move for some folks. If he gets charged, there will be the "what about the trial" crowd. When the trial starts, there will be "what about the verdict" crowd, if a guilty plea comes down it'll be the "what about the appeal" crowd, and once all that's exhausted it'll probably be "deep state" or whatever.

The only way that this dude is 100% innocent is if he didn't have sex with her, didn't drug her and had ZERO idea anything suspect was going on. Any other scenario and he's some level of negligent to guilty. If he's got an alibi, now's the time, because I don't see it getting better for him.

I know he is a distraction and is just a punter.  That is all I need to know.

It’s about more than the punter though. It’s about the Bills acting in a way that won’t be prohibitive to signing other players in the future.

This current Bills organization is a very high character organization. They aren’t going to make rash, emotional decisions. They are going to follow their pre established plans and act accordingly at the conclusion of following those plans. In this case, if the Bills believe the rape accusations to be true, I can’t imagine they wouldn’t release him, and justifiably so.

What would you say if Josh had such an accusation made against him? Would you still want the Bills to make a rushed emotional decision and move on? Would you be willing to forgive him?

For me personally, I wouldn’t want anyone on the team who was proven to have raped another (proven being the key word btw). However, as it relates to this instance (or any like it), if the Bills believe that Araiza acted in the wrong, while not being 100% definite, that should be enough to pull plug (I would hope so). Just the same, due diligence must be exercised first in an effort to adhere to the high standard the Bills organization adheres too.

If it turns out that Araiza wasn’t even in the house at the time of the attack, then I think the DA has been presented with an imposing conundrum.

To be truthful, I wasn’t there either & I’ll bet I’m not the only one.

Now what, Mr DA?

Beane and Mcdermott are paid millions of dollars to handle this stuff. They are all about doing things the right way. They have info we do not. Why do they HAVE to act immediately?

Seen lots of high character people bend rules to get over the top. Tons of good people make bad decisions in order to achieve a goal.

Until this gets resolved, I don’t want to see this guy in a Bills uniform. Wearing that uni is a privilege and represents our community. He should be suspended or maybe he can pull a hammy in practice and go on IR.

This would be over at opening statements. Soon as the victims lawyer hit the floor, he’d get halfway through his opening statement and half this thread would be like “I’ve heard enough, GUILTY”

A 6th round punter.. Come on. Beane and Mcdermott built this juggernaut of a roster for years preaching process and accountability and being a family just to throw it away on a rookie punter who hasn’t even played a real game? Highly doubtful but I suppose still possible. Maybe they need to go to for how they’ve handle this situation the last 6 weeks.

Unless she is lying about talking with the police, which should be easy to prove. That would be a wild thing to lie about and definitely put her in legal trouble.

I agree, seems unlikely she has fabricated the assault overall as that part seems very credible and so sad and unfortunate she endured that.  However, at the same time she doesn't have to be lying about the attack for Matt to also be innocent of gang rape though.

I think the real question is if Matt, who seems to have had a separate encounter earlier in the night, was also a participant in the heinous attack on this woman later in the bedroom with the group of monsters who attacked her.  That is where I think the questions truly lie on whether or not she is correctly naming him as one of the assaulters.
