Who are your top 10 QBs in the league

Recommended Posts

I think its tiers…

Josh Lamar Mahomes and Burrow are their own tier imo.

Then it’s Herbert (he’s close to those guys and will get there with Harbaugh)

Then its guys like Hurts, Stafford, Dak…Goff had a great year.

Then young guys who are on their way, Lawrence, Stroud, Love

Then its mid Tua, Purdy, Baker Mayfield…

And old guys who were elite Rodgers, Wilson.

And old guys who were meh Carr, Cousins etc.

All my opinions.

So it’s not that I don’t see it at times with the eye test, but I continue to question why Herbert gets ranked so highly and how he continues to evade criticism. Made it to the playoffs once, where they choked away a huge lead. Has come into the past 3 seasons with very high expectations and hasn’t delivered. Sure his team has dealt with injuries but what team (outside of KC) hasn’t? It seems people continue to judge other QBs on production while he still gets judged on potential.

Would he be in my top 10 yes, but for me he’s closer to 10 than to 5

There's just 4 qbs worth getting excited about.

1. Mahomes

2. Allen

3. Lamar

4. Burrow

....Prescott, Herbert & Hurts have under performed. Aaron has one foot in retirement. And Stafford is not too far behind.  Guys like Purdy or Tua are very good game managers but incapable of taking over a game. Stroud is the most promising rookie.

I think it is a fair question, I think it’s obvious his talent is off the charts, he just played for a complete idiot loser coach. I’m based because I have always loved his game. He can do everything those other guys can do.  His 2021 season is pretty much what earned him that extension.

That's a previous great list! Except Josh should have his own tier!😀

There isn’t a right or wrong answer just was curious as the top 4 seems pretty set in stone

Patrick

Josh

Lamar

Joey B

after that you can throw names in a hat Id go

Matt Stafford

Dak Prescott

Justin Herbert

Jalen Hurts

Aaron Rogers

If I’m talking just QB not the team or coach and a guy would start a franchise with today, this would be my list:

Tier 1 dealers choice all time greats

1a. Josh Allen

1b. Joe Burrow

1c. Patrick Mahomes

Tier 2 - your going to the playoffs almost every year

4. CJ Stroud

5. Lamar Jackson

Tier 3 - unlimited potential but still make so many mistakes

6. Justin Herbert
7. Trevor Lawrence

Tier 4 - you can win with a good team around these guys

8. Jared Goff

9. Jalen Hurts
10. Dak Prescott

Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers are top 5 guys but they’re old and injury prone now. They don’t make the list of starting a franchise

Jordan Love I need to see a full season. Great end of year but is it Lafleur scheming wide open targets?

Guys like Purdy and Tua are great effecient quick thinking QBs but where is my franchise going to be? Do I want them out in the elements in Chicago or Buffalo

Also, I’m not going to lie, I did consider Baker Mayfield in the top 10. He just has to show he can do what he did this year again since his first few years were not the best

  1. Allen
  2. Mahomes
  3. Jackson
  4. Stroud
  5. Purdy
  6. Burrow (would be higher if he was not a part time player)
  7. A bunch of decent guys
  8. A few bums.

Overall QB play is at pretty high level in NFL currently.

1. Josh

2. Mahomes

3. Lamar

4. Burrow

After that I have no idea. Lawrence, Stafford, Goff, Hurts, Dak, Herbert, Rodgers, could all be any number 5-10.

I need to see a little more of Stroud before I put him in the top 10. I personally think Purdy excells because of the team he's on. Tua, I have him 15th.

All of America stops what it’s doing when Josh Allen is in on TV.  I can testify to this living outside NY and what other fans say.

Allen and Mahomes are in a tier of their own - but I’ll put Lamar here with them.

Tier 1 - All they do is win and they are must see TV:

1. Allen

2. Mahomes

3. Jackson

Tier 2 - I will start a franchise with them

3. Stroud

4. Herbert - but no playoff wins - the Dan Marino of this era so far; more talented teams than the Bills should make us appreciate McD more.  Harbaugh to the rescue.

Tier 3 - I think they’re here bc of surrounding talent tier:

5. Burrow - nice to have 2 of the 10 best WRs in the game and a top 10 RB.  And a great 3rd WR.  Seems to be piling up injuries.  Feels like he’s deliberately cocky to make him seem better than he is.  He’s this next guy:

6. Purdy - it’s like Burrow.  There is no difference to me.  They’re the same QB.
7. Hurts - everything went right in 2022

Tier 4:  I have questions:

8. Lawrence - how do you lose to the Titans?

9. Love - made the top 10.  But, can we see it for a full season

10. Dak - I’m not sure you’re good at throwing outside.  The actual Philip Rivers of this era.

I really don’t understand why Trevor Lawrence is showing up on so many peoples’ lists.  He’s done nothing to merit top 10 inclusion.

Allen

Mahomes

Burrow

Jackson

Stafford

Stroud

Goff

Prescott

Herbert

Love

Purdy

Tua

Hurts

Murray

Lawrence

Think the tiers are broadly right but the old meh guys are better at this stage than Wilson who is a replacement level starter now. And if either Stroud or Love back it up next season they are jumping that middle group into the Herbert territory.

Agreed! I did not want to be too much of a homer!

Hey, I agree, too. Make all things equal, and Allen is just plain better than Mahomes. He can do everything Mahomes can do as a passer, and he's a far, far more dangerous runner. No one mentions that for years Mahomes was throwing to the best WR and best TE in the league--behind one of the best lines, executing a scheme designed by the best offensive mind. Frigging Mac Jones would have gone to the Super Bowl in that situation. Not saying Kermit isn't terrific, just that there's no way he's better than Allen, who may end up being the best QB in history, if Beane gives him someone to throw to.

1. Allen, Burrow, Mahomes

2. Stafford, Stroud, maybe the fading Rodgers.

3. Goff, Hurts, Mayfield, Prescott, Lawrence, Love, Herbert, Lamar. (Note: Lamar is unique, but he can't throw nearly as well as the top six. Contain and pressure him (no small task), and he folds like a cheap table.

Anyone who has Jackson over either Burrow or Allen has just bought into media narratives. Not a single GM on earth, including Baltimore's, is taking Lamar over either of those guys.

I agree except Burrow hasn't shown that he can stay healthy which is something Lamar had against him the last two seasons but this year he actually did. That said if I was starting a team and had to chose between the two I'd go Burrow as to me you need to be able to pass to win and well Lamar is an average at best passing QB.

Surprised about the fact that there’s very little love here for Goff. I think he’s evolved into a damn good quarterback who seems to almost alway make the right throw. Plus he’s accurate. But don’t listen to me; listen to Fred Warner: https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/fred-warner-jared-goff-the-reason-lions-are-where-they-are-now

I think it's Patrick/Lamar/Joe/Allen/Herbert and Herbert could easily pass Allen next season because he has Harbaugh and Allen has some guy that believes running the ball is how you win.

End of the day Allen is most talented but being stuck with McDermott has limited his success and will continue to do so

In another reality I’d put Burrow up there with Allen and Lamar, but since the best ability is availability, I can’t. He has basically effectively missed two seasons in five years: a full season (2020) and another season where he started out hampered by injury and then went down halfway through and was out for the stretch run (2023).

agreed 100%. Herbert has all the tools but doesn't seem to have the 'it' factor that other elite QBs have

jackson over Allen is crazy talk

Jackson couldn’t even throw to the sidelines for 5 years and has 6k less passing yards then Allen

Mahomes is the best Quarterback in the world.  Throwing the football, accuracy, pocket presence, being clutch.... he is the best.

Josh is the best overall football player in the league at this moment. Leader, Runner, trucking people, creating amazing throws.. not the best pocket passer imo.

Lamar is like a scat back playing QB, super elusive when he wants to be.. not an awesome pocket passer by any means but can certainly sling it w accuracy at times.
