I want two big bodies. next season or possibly this one post camp.
Keep the LBs clean please.

THIS

3rd, Harry was a 1T, right?

Ā

At the end of 21 everyone loved his play as stabilizing to the D and then we wouldnā€™t match the 6 million per that Minny offered for 3 years. Ā They let him go while playing well and not for very much.

Ā

What was the deal with that?Ā
Ā

Throwing out there for anyone to answer.

Has one of those ā€œproposed tradesā€ ever actually happened? It might have once for something obvious but I donā€™t recall the details. I wish people would give that up

Ā

Lol, of course not... in reference to those certain silly type kind of trades some post once in a while, something like "Cam Lewis sucks, should trade him and at least get a 3rd".

Ā

Only thing I can think of off top of my head that comes close, but also was unexpected and surprised many people, was the Tyrod trade when Beane got a 3rd few years back. But that's about it

Good question !
Lets see the opinions

Ā I was not one for letting him go. But for me? I now want two space eaters for the future state.

Ā Bills did not get to the QB via the Middle #whenitmattered last year

At his age Daquon needs to be year to year. Ā  I'm really hoping for a MLB that doesn't need to be kept spotless. Ā  Instincts would be a nice change.

Who said Poona Ford was going to be the backup 1 tech? Ā Beane? Ā Ā

Ā

Poona Ford has played his best football over the outside shoulder of the guard..........which is Ed Oliver's position in the Bills D.......3T.

Ā

I've always viewed him as a penetrating 3T.

Ā

Ā

Heā€™ll play both

I want to sign or trade Oliver. I donā€™t want to have him play out his contract and become a UFA.

Ā

Iā€™m very clear about that.

Ā

You've made that abundantly clear in multiple threads. I disagree. This thread is also about Poona, not Oliver.Ā

Maybe. Ā I just donā€™t like his fit on our defense.Ā
Ā

If weā€™re going with a fast, undersized, more attacking style defense (which it seems like we are) Iā€™d much rather have monster DTā€™s up front.. not another undersized guy taking a ton of snaps.Ā

Ā

Same, tbf. I just don't think Oliver is without value. He's probably worth more on our roster than what we could get in a trade.

He doesn't have much value. If you think he's so unimpressive that he's not worth re-signing to a second contract, then why would other teams be willing to give up major assets for him?Ā

If you just want his money off the books and you're willing to take a conditional 2024 5th, then sure, trade him away. Because that's the most you'd likely be getting in return.

If his rate of pay this year doesn't bother you, though, then you may as well ride out his final year and let him either have a great season and force your hand in re-signing him, or let him walk and receive a compensatory pick higher than the one you could likely trade him for.

Ā

LOL

Ā

That's standard operating procedure for the Trade Hims! around here.

Ā

TBD Talent Evaluator: "Playername Sucks!Ā  He's a bust! No way should we sign him toĀ  a big contract!"

Also TBD Talent Evaluator: "Trade Playername!Ā  We should be able to make a player for player trade for a good talent or a 2nd round pick!"

Ā

The obvious logical fallacy that if said player isn't a starter or worth his current salary on the Bills, other teams are probably not willing to give up a starting player or a premium pick for him in order to take over that salary on a 1 year rental, never seems to occur

Oliver is better than his current perception on this board.Ā

Yeah for the perception of some that's true and there are some others it's not.

Ā

He improved a some last season with addition of Von Miller and when healthy, at the same time though I'm not sure there was all that big of a gap in performance between the players in that particular position for the most part really. Each one of them made some plays, Jones, Settle, Oliver, and Jordan P made plays, especially when healthy and before Von went down.

Ā

Honestly I don't recall it being much difference in performance from one to the other. Not enough to brag about anyways imo

Ā

Pete Carrol says they preferred him at nose tackle and that he was too often played at 3T and 5T in their defense. Ā I think Buffalo views him as an upgrade to Settle at 1T. Ā They really had Ā no true 1T behind Jones last year and that was a problem. Ā

Yes, stating the obvious is arrogance.. wait until you find out the team that scores more points wins the game. Gonna blow your mind.Ā

ā€œ5 feet 11 and 310 pounds, he is one of the most uniquely shaped defensive tackles but with the wingspan of a 6-foot-8 human being. The shorter base and long arms help him keep defenders off his pads while holding his ground. Ford seems like a terrific fit for the one-technique position in the Billsā€™ defensive scheme, which is also Jonesā€™ natural spot. Ford will likely be a core rotational defensive tackleā€ - Joe B The Athletic

Edmunds got 18 mil per and he still sucks.

Sometimes players are overvalued by other teams.

Ā

Tyrod is another example and we got a 2nd for him (or was it the 1st pick in the 3rd? Canā€™t remember)

Ā

we also got a 5th for mike gillislee and that turned into Matt Milano.Ā

5 years worth of starting experience, played 50% - 60% snaps for the Seahawks.

Ā

Beane has done a great job with what little money he had to work with to cram in as many quality FAs as he can.Ā
Ā

I donā€™t know if Clark, Ngakoue, Ingram or Houston would play for that low-end money, but that would round out the defense.Ā
Ā

Even if they donā€™t, Beane has reeled in Ā several nice players from other teams.Ā

Edā€™s playing for his next contractā€¦ my read is itā€™s going to be his best year by far

Surely the end for Tim Settle? Poona and Daquan as the 1T, Ed and Big Phil at 3T.Ā

Ā

But still 0 DTs signed beyond 2023.

Ā

Ā I'm not sure if you're referring to Settle's playing time or cutting him when you say the end for him? His dead cap hit is almost a million more than his cap hit this year.

I don't think that about Settle.Ā  I could see us carrying 5 Dts, especially with how snake bit they were with injuries at Dt LY.

Ā

Beyond 2023, my money is on an Ed extension sometime before training camp.Ā  Daquon is likely a year-to-year type at this point of his career, similar to Phillips.Ā  Then certainly FA/draft, not worried about 2024 at this point.

There have been a few games here or there where he was disruptive and impactful. Bet we see a bunch more than 2 games like that this year. Letā€™s see.Ā

Ā

Ā If we could get several games this year close to the way he played in the Lions game our d-line would be very disruptive.

Ā

Maybe, because he's under 6' but he actually has Nick Broeker length arms.......sub 33"......pretty normal length arms for an interior DL.

Ā

The wingspan comes from his shoulder width. Ā Ā
