Former Bills DC Walt Corey Passes Away

This came across my timeline.  Apparently former Bills DC Walt Corey died today.  I’m a little surprised we didn’t hear anything from the Bills.  Corey was a former Texas/Chief and coached there for 12 years before coaching in Buffalo.

As far as a DC, the Bills defense certainly had their moments.   But like a lot of players on the 1994 team, Marv probably kept Walt around as DC a few years longer than he should have.

I didn’t realize that after he left Buffalo in 1994, Corey coached the Saint DL under Ditka.

Walt could coach up great D plans against the unstoppable Dan Marino. Recall Marino had some crazy streak of not being sacked like 2 years. Walt's D broke that with Jeff Wright.

Saw him a handful of times at the West Seneca town park main ball diamond

Not a great coach.  With all the studs he had at his disposal, he should have crafted a scheme to take advantage of them and win a super bowl.  Example, Jeff Wright was a gamer - but at his size, he shouldn't have been playing 'nose' on a 3-man line!  That said, Walt was a very nice man an my condolences to his family.  RIP Coach.
