LeGOATski
An option. I think they just should've straight up sneaked it, or tried to draw Offside, or punted it. Hindsight 20/20.
Bangarang
I think the plan was to take your best players off the field and throw the ball 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage to make getting 1 yard as difficult as possible 12 3 24 3

LeGOATski
With the WR motion across the formation, they pulled in the CB and put the numbers against them. Had they simply left the WR outside, they may have gotten it. They literally lured in the guy who made the stop. 3

Ya Digg?
I remember they pulled that play YEARS ago with Bledsoe and McGahee and it worked for a huge gain and a touchdown….I’ve seen it tried a couple times since then and it has always gone terribly 3 1
Coach Tuesday
I think it was a halfback pass. Seriously. Running back was going to catch the ball seven yards behind the LOS and then throw it downfield. Incredible. 5

I agree, but then why draw in the CB to give them the extra defender in the box? Poor design there, from what I saw.

No_Matter_What
The other one was much worse. This looked like bad playcall in hindsight, but McD's decision to play 4&8 with no offensive rhythm instead of trying 53y FG after he didn't go for two shorter ones was extremely bad decision. I don't remember him making worse in game decision. 3 1

You don't try that kind of crap in the 1st game of the season against a very good defense who is well coached especially when your offense is not in sync. A complete idiot should have known it would go like that. You QB sneak it with a QB who has an amazing track record of getting it. You let the QB throw a short pass with a stable of what is supposed to be the best receiving core in the league. You put in a full heavy set and ram it up there. This looked to me like an option pass.

78thealltimegreat
It was clearly to draw to them to Allen and to flip it over to Devin only problem Steelers saw it on film and 41 missed his block

Nextmanup
I hated the design of that play the moment it started. Not the right call for that scenario. Too many moving parts, too reliant on luck and things working as planned. On a big 4th and 1, Josh should line up under center, and do a QB sneak right over the center. You know, the play Tom Brady has pulled off 1,000 times in his career. It's boring, but it works. And Josh is a huge, strong, tall guy with long arms. That would be a much smarter play over a large sample of snaps than the crap we saw today. Edited September 12, 2021 by Nextmanup 4

Coach Tuesday
Daboll called a halfback option pass to a rookie swing tackle on the critical play of the game. Will not miss him when he leaves.

Man with No Name
Daboll is great in games where we completely overmatch the competition. everything seems so smart and fun. but when other teams have our number, there are never adjustments. After our last two games (KC and today) I am afraid we have been figured out and won't be able to adjust enough to be what we were.

Eastport bills
This team has become predictable in short yardage with Josh on delayed runs or gadget misdirection. Beane has not delivered a bruising short yardage back with an O-line that run blocks. Josh will have to be Superman again with this offense.

Pittsburgh is one of 3-4 teams in the league can generate that level of pass rush with only 4 guys and Daboll will go right back to believing in his own Genius then when he faces a real defense, it will all crumble again.
JohnNord
It was a stupid call - plain and simple. They probably should’ve just tried to sneak it with Allen but if they didn’t have confidence based on the way the OL was playing I would understand. 20 minutes ago, ColoradoBills said: Watch the play again and you will see that the play design had Gilliam there to make the block.
