The AFC is a dumpster fire this season

Once the Chargers lose tonight, there will be 9 AFC teams with at least 4 losses after only 6 weeks.

That leaves 7: Pats, Bills, Ravens, Texans, Colts, Raiders, Chiefs. Who's the odd one out for the playoffs? Most of you are probably thinking the Raiders (and the pessimists here will suggest the Bills). But check out the Chiefs' schedule, in combination with their injury list and terrible defense. Could they be the odd ones out?

I think something else will happen...

the best divisions top top to bottom are the NFC north and nfc west. West has played much of the afc north over the season. The browns went 0-3 but the also handles the Ravens.

i see Clevrland sinning the division. Clevrland has 5 games in division, Miami, and Denver and Arizona. Thry ein those they have 10 wins.

KC is still good. They played 2 strong teams who figure to battle for the south title.

south to Houston or Indy.

wild card 1 to bills/pats loser

Wild card 2 to a group of Baltimore, Oakland, indy/Houston loser.  There is a chance one of the 2-4 teams gets hot and into it.

in the nfc...

top 2 in the north and west get in. East and south are just division winners.

i don’t think there is that much difference between conferences.  The number of teams eith2-4 loses is about the same.

I disagree! Your D makes you top 3.  Mahomes has kept the Chiefs afloat but they would lose to the Bills IMO.  Texans are painfully inconsistent.

I actually think there are a lot of teams chasing those 2 Wildcard spots in the AFC.....and I think it's going to be a tight race over the last few weeks of the season.

For arguments sake lets give the division winners to the following teams:

East - Pats

West - Chiefs

North - Ravens

South - Texans (although I think the Colts will be right there)

That leaves the:

Bills (4-1)

Colts (3-2)

Raiders (3-2)

Browns (2-4)

Jaguars (2-4)

Steelers (2-4)

all vying for 2 spots.  No doubt the Bills are in a great spot, but the 2 teams that scare me are the Colts & Browns.  I was very happy to see the Browns lose today & they face the Patriots next, but after that their schedule gets very easy.  The Steelers defeating the Chargers tonight was also a big help, the way I see it.  Just wish the Chiefs weren't so generous to those AFC South teams the last 2 weeks.

Do people actually think the Browns will run the table after losing to the Pats and starting 2-5? Coaching matters. Offensive lines matter. The Browns have neither. And if you think the Browns will finish 6-0 in their division, then you haven't been paying attention to the nature of division rivalries, especially in the AFC North. I'll put them at 7-9, losing to the Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, and....BILLS.

It really is, and it all seems to be breaking perfectly for the Bills right now. Denver shutting out the Titans for example, the AFC is going to be a mess at the end of the year. I bet 9 wins and a decent conference record does it. Hell right now after today's games the Bills still have the third best conference record after the Pats and Texans. It's "still early" but this team is in a great place.

No it is impossible to finish with a better record than the division winner because if you have the better record you ARE the division winner.

A better record than another division winner... Not the same division.  Example wild card teams had better records than Seattle in 2010 when they won the division at 7-9 and the same with Carolina in 2014 at 7-8-1

The Browns are a mess of egos and a head coach that can't keep them in check. Baker doesn't have a great OL and he's having a hard time in the pocket. They will be a competitive team but at this point they don't look like they are going to win that division. The Ravens and Steelers are better coached. I'm impressed with how the Steelers have responded to adversity these past couple weeks. Their D is starting to come together. The Ravens are stylistically an anomaly and their defense has not been elite as I think some were expecting, but they are likely the division winner at this point.

I think the Chiefs are in trouble.  They have a hard game at Denver Thursday night, and if they lose that one, they could spiral.  Their schedule then gets even tougher.

If they lose at Denver I will start to think they are in real trouble.

His point was that you can very easily finish 2nd in your division and face a division winner FROM ANOTHER DIVISION in the wild card round that had a worse record than you.  That's most definitely possible.

Trust the Process, but the OP makes a point.   Go win some games, things might fall into place this year.   Way too early to tell.   Keep the popcorn popping.   Go bills.

Will be in town this weekend to visit two ailing moms (mine and my wifes) .   What is the best WNY bar to watch the game now , get some wings, you know, the usual?

Have you read your own post?

Who has NE played?  5 teams with a Losing record.  Steelers 2 W,  Dolphins 0 W, Jets 1 W,  Deadskins 1 W, (compliments of Miami) Giants 2 W.

Who has HOU played?  3 teams with a Losing record. Jags 2 W, Chargers 2 W,  Falcons 1 W, Chiefs 4W

Who has KC  played?   Losses to Colts and Texans the rest ...   Jaguars 2 W, @ Raiders 3 W, Ravens 4 W, Lions 2 W

Arguably NE beat 4 of the worst teams in the NFL

The others are not that far behind.                                          Imagine being a Cowboys fan losing to Mono Darnold

buddy. we barely won in those games. NE, Hou, and KC have all blown out teams this season. our offense is nowhere near good enough right now to be considered a top team in the NFL.

Our offense is not. Our defense is. It’s a team sport. NE didn’t blow us out. We were in it until the very last drive. They won from a blocked punt.

It's not a stretch to say we're the second best team in the AFC right now.  I can't think of a team other than NE that we wouldn't beat on a neutral field.

I hate to tell you, but that cliche is not a thing for fans.

No one watched the Texans the past 2 weeks?  Watson has 17 TDs so far, including 5 rushing.  Hopkins and Fuller.

I think the Texans could beat NE in NE right now.

I don't disagree.  You could definitely make a case for the Texans and maybe even the Colts, as well.

So if their fans start looking ahead, it could affect how the Bills play against, say, Miami, even if the team remains focused?  How does that work?

You'd be surprised ... there's a large portion of kum by yah, only positive thought fans out there who will call you a hater at the drop of a hat should you dare say anything even remotely negative

Remember, our assessment of how good teams are is skewed by the fact that we're only 1/3 of the way into the season. In 6 weeks we'll have a different picture. Some teams we think suck will have turned it around, and vice versa.

Imagine if 2 weeks ago someone predicted the Chefs would lose consecutive games to the Colts and Texans, Denver would beat TN, SF would beat LA, and NJJ would beat Dallas. That guy would have been derided as an idiot and a fool, but here we are.

Maybe they watched the Texans the first 4 weeks too and saw a team struggle to put up double digit points against the Jags and Panthers.  Which Deshaun Watson is showing up week to week?

We WON!!!

period.  NE struggled against the Bills

and for the most part The Giants.   Turnovers saved the Pats bacon.

The Pats thus far are not what they used to be offensively

As the old saying goes, "Defense wins championships..."  In recent years much has been made of the new modern offenses and high powered attacks.  But they all have flaws and once the defensive minds are able to break them down and find the weaknesses, they can be and will be stopped.  With the strength of the Bills defense I believe that anything is possible and that this team has the potential to take down anyone out there this year.  Even though we might not be the "better team".

The AFC sets up well for the Bills this year. I dont see a game on the docket that they can't win.

Philly should be a challenge

Browns on the road could be a tough game

Dallas if they decide to show up

Baltimore will be tough, but winnable especially at home

Could week 16 be for the division? Honestly it wouldn't shock me. If Josh learns how to take care of the football better, this team could be very very good

Haven't you guys heard? The second coming of Darnold is here after the long suffering of Jets fans. They are going to win out now and ride the wave to the SB.

I wouldn’t mind them winning a bunch of games and handing some teams losses that might be in the WC picture.  Hell, maybe they surprise NE next week.

Theyre clearly a decent team when healthy, and much better than their 1-4 record.

Best case scenario is them missing the playoffs but not being in position to draft Chase Young or Jerry Jeudy.

Bills can make a jump if the offense improves over the course of the year.... think they need to make a big move for a top WR for that to happen, IMO.

I like Houston a lot but their secondary does concern me and they suffered some key injuries yesterday. The rookie RT went down and since they moved him from LG to RT and inserted the other rookie at LG the line has taken a very big step. Cunningham was hurt for a period too and Robey who is having a good year at corner went down. They are not the deepest team because they have a lot of money tied up in their stars so that hurts. I also just wonder about whether they have a mental block with the Patriots similar to the Bills.

That’s a purely subjective argument. Most would put Pats and Chiefs as 1 and 2 , and I still would as well. While Watson is excellent and the best player on that team, it’s not clear that HOU would beat the Bills head to head. In fact, last year’s edition of the Bills ( much worse) seemed well on their way to upsetting the Texans at home until Allen was injured. Pickerman came in and we all know the rest. Anyway, it’s about matchups and I think if HOU and BUF played each other the home team would be a slight favorite.

It seems like a weird season.  Teams look unbeatable and fall to earth hard (Dal, Ten).  Other teams look like they are out of it, then somehow look good (Pit, Den, Min).

Might have some shakeup for the playoffs this season with some new entrants and teams advancing.
