14 catches?

yeeebus....

7 yard per reception (that is a Gase offense same thing in MIA.)  Short passes.

Darnold had 4.3 YPA that is NOT winning in this league.

... and he was targeted 17 times. He generated 5.8 yards per pass attempt, which isn't great. The Bills are always going to allow a guy to make some underneath catches given their stress on preventing big plays to the wideouts.

If it was Beasley who ended up with 14 catches for 99 yards, posters here would be touting him as the greatest slot WR ever.

It’s nothing against crowder who I think is pretty good at his job. But the game plan was not to stop the short stuff to crowder.

Yep. It is amazing to me that people can watch this team every week... we are now in year 3 of McDermott.... and not know what the core principles of the defense are. Did Crowder probably get a few more catches because they spent half the game with Siran Neal at nickel? Yes. But the way the Bills play defense means you can see slot receivers with volume against them. The key is that if the Bills rally and tackle well then those yards don't hurt them.

The all22 isn't out yet but from the broadcast angle it looked to me like the game plan was to take Robby Anderson away. Whichever corner he went up against seemed to have safety help over the top shading to his side. Even Tre White, who the Bills are normally happy to leave in 1v1 a lot seemed to have help when he was against Anderson (again from what one could see from the tv angle, I reserve the right to change my mind later). Anderson - 3 receptions for 23 yards. If the ball kept going to Crowder for short gains over the middle it was a sign that the Bills gameplan was working.

I have Beasely on my fantasy team - not PPR

I am an idiot.

yeah I started Beasley in daily fantasy.  Beasley will be okay for you.  Lots of ability to have big yardage games.

Crowder is going to be a PPR beast I think.

Nobody.  The yards didn't hurt, but those first downs did.

I was discussing this today- how many were first downs? I know at least a few but if it was only 4 1st I would be happy. If he got them 12 then we need to clamp down better.

You're assuming they're paying attention...and know anything about NFL football.

14 CATCHES FOR 99 YARDS, SEEM LIKE HE WAS MATCHED UP ON LB, AND RAN A LOT OF RUB PLAYS OUT OF THE BACK FIELD OT SLOT FOR SHORT GAINS.  I THIS THEY WERE GIVING THOSE TO HIM.

This (except for the all-caps shouting).

The Bills forced Darnold into only one option; to check down to a well-contained Chrowder.

It was on purpose...other reponses above saw it...you give Gase the short no impact stuff and he'll take that bait everytime.  Correct game plan by the Bills.

Micah Hyde talked about it on WGR today.  Said giving them the underneath stuff was part of the plan as long as it didn't move the chains.  3rd and 8?    Five yard toss to Crowder and drop him.  Jets punt.  Patriots did it all night to Steelers it got to be ridiculous.

Micah is a good interview by the way, gonna be on 550 AM every Monday around 4pm.  Between Micah and Sal the show is somewhat listenable again.

Taron Johnson is our slot corner and he's very good.

He left the game early with a hamstring injury so we had a backup out there. Jets attacked him.

Siran Neal is who came in, gave up 10 of the 14.  If Taron Johnson continues to be out they may move Kevin Johnson to the slot over Neal

He has to be one of the only WR ever to have 14 catches and not gain 100 yards.

I believe that was confirmed on OBL with one of the good morning football guests.  He stated that exact same thing - in NFL history No one with 14 catches had been held to under 100 yards.

I'm thinking Robby Anderson might be finishing his walk year in a different city.

They played zone most of the game.  Crowder was catching 3 yard passes.  There were two third down plays where I thought the defender was out of position at the snap.  Way too much of a cushion on a 3rd and around 5 yards.  Soft short zone is fine on first and second down but when it is third and intermediate distance they need to play a little tighter coverage.  But to the Bills credit they made the tackles and limited the damage.
