Breaking: Kroft breaks foot

Beane continues to take chances with damaged goods - when you trade using "injury arbitrage" you need to discount your expectations by at least 50% with each signed player...

I guess the most important ability is actually sign-ability.

Okay, real talk though... I get ACL's and Hammys getting messed up in these type of no-contact things, but how do you break a bone?

making a hard cut...turning your ankle...there are many ways to hurt a foot without contact

6 weeks usually

I think we should question his toughness and rush him back like Sammy.  Foot injuries are a bad one.  This is going to be a big problem going forward.  I wasn’t in love with the signing but they need to be real patient with it.

i've had an odd incidence of broken feet in my life.  my brother stepped off a step funny and broke his foot.  a few weeks after that one of my employees was walking her dog and broke her foot.  maybe it's my fault.

Well... it's not ideal, but we're no worse than last year. And probably still improved w/o Kroft.

Lee Smith will probably play a larger role than initially anticipated and we'll get to see if Knox can push Croom for some snaps.

Maybe Sweeney has a good camp and finds the field for some reps.

The Bills sit here and talk about all these medical advances they put in.  They then proceed to sign a player who's foot clearly was not healed and ends up breaking it again.

The medical team is the problem, not the equipment.

Beane already had zero offensive signings to hang his hat onto before this year, and now its looking like he continues to not due complete due diligence.

This comment is breathtaking.

We literally know nothing about what happened, and you are jumping to some WILD conclusions.

What wild conclusion were jumped to?  He rebroke the foot he broke that year.

Touch situation here. I do suppose it is nice to see Knox, Croom, Sweeney get some extra reps.

Not much in free agency outside of AJ Derby, Ryan Griffin (who was arrested for punching a wall.) Ofcourse Jake Fisher is still out there, and we all know he is familiar with the playbook.

Interesting UDFA out there is Stetson tight end Donald Parham, who was a an UDFA of the Lions and waived after rookie minicamp. I don't know if he was hurt or just terrible. But I thought he seemed interesting pre draft.

Jake Fisher won't help catching the ball.

I wonder if Beane takes a look at a couple of the older FAs.

Maybe Kendricks or Gresham have a year left in them for cheaper money?

Insurance may be needed.

I'd like to see us go after Jonnu Smith-TEN...wouldn't be nearly as much as Rudolph. He filled in as a #1 for Walker when he was out.

More famous for his baby mama dumping a pot of hot water on him when he was sleeping though.

I always thought everyone realized the Bills had their sights set on starting to make significant moves in 2019 last off-season.

I guess not.

No excuse for Trent Murphy and Star having two of the worse contracts in the NFL

Hello?  Do you actually follow the Bills?  What part of "build through the draft" don't you understand?  Beane doesn't us free agents to build the team.  He uses rookies.

Whaley drafted poorly and signed occasional name free agents.  How'd that work out?

Kroft was intended to be the answer at TE.  He was intended to be the guy who started until they got the young guy they wanted.

It certainly doesn't help 2019 to lose him, but injuries happen.

Injuries happen less for some players as opposed to others.

I don't know, but neither does her.  He injured the same foot, but that doesn't mean he injured the same broken bone. And even if he did, we have no idea if its an expected re-break or some freak accident.  We just don't know. But to start throwing stones like that is just ignorant.

Bring on Kyle Rudolph...we have the space and we must get some production from TE. If we don't pull the trigger, it may just mean we are still courting another DE via FA or Trade to pair .with Jerry

Your medical opinion is his foot wasn't fully healed because he broke it again.  So it seems you believe that if you re-break a bone, that means it wasn't healed.

Julian Edelman, Sammy Watkins, Kevin Durant, Julio Jones all had multiple foot injuries on the same foot.....those doctors suck huh?

What is he right about?  That the foot wasn't healed?

Patriots in trade talks for Kyle Rudolph...if that happens one of their other TEs may be expendable.

B. Watson

A. Seferian-Jenkins

M. LaCosse

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats got Kyle Rudolph and Gerald McCoy! They print money in NE!

I forgot about Kendricks. He played for Rob Boras with the Rams there is some familiarity there, plus he was very productive at the time. .

As per Ian Rappaport, recovery could take 3-4 months.  If true, Kroft will miss at the very least half of training camp, and may not be ready unil a few games into the regular season.  The rookies are suddenly much more important.  Tommy Sweeney is the less athletic of the two draftees,  but he is pretty polished and well rounded for a rookie. This may have more of an impact on him than anyone else.   If Kroft were healthy, he might be a good candidate for the PS, but if Kroft is not ready to go, the Bills may want his polish on the field rather than Dawson Knox, the more athletic but less experienced rookie.  I know Lee Smith is in the mix, and he may be used a little more as a receiver, but they aren't going to rely on him as a starter in single TE formations.
