They have ten picks. They could have found a cheaper younger pass catching RB in the middle of the draft. Chris Ivory ran better behind the same o line. McCoy is a behind the line dancer at this point.

That's my point. I love signing Yeldon, I'm just trying to see why Yeldon would sign here. But what do we need with another $6.4 million in cap space for this year? We currently have over $30 million left. And once the draft is over, the roster is pretty much full. At this point, Yeldon didn't have much choice. He obviously wasn't a priority free agent. He wasn't going to get a starting job from anyone. And in less than a week, the league will be overloaded with dozens of shiny-new rookie RBs. If he waited too long, he may have been without a job until August or September. Just two years ago, Shady was still one of the league's best RBs. Maybe he lost a step. But I don't know how anyone could make that assessment, considering how bad our blocking was. We don't need another Day 3 pick. We don't need more cap space. It makes more sense to keep him and cross our fingers that 2018 was an anomaly, due to our poor O-Line.

Big Gun
He's still young, 25, can hopefully learn somethings from veterans Gore and Shady and then become a better RB. If not he's gone after next year.
4BillsintheBurgh
I like the move because he can be the third down back as well as fill in for injures. Just need a PS player that might be able to fill in if needed.

ROCBillsBeliever
Hear me out on this bit of speculation: Bryce Love: -4 year starter (McBeane loves them some seniors). -ACL injury = maybe we can attach him on IR. -ACL injury = buy low (4th or 5th round) -If we can IR him, he trains, prepares, and learns under two of the best RB'S in history. I think this move to sign Yeldon has no impact on taking Love. It MAY preclude taking a back who would require a roster spot. Therefore: Bills are gunning for Love. Just speculation. Kelly the Dog
He's pretty decent and makes us better as a team. Murphy is highly overrated on this board. But unless they trade Shady, which I tend to doubt, there really isn't much room for a rookie or draft pick with speed, or an heir-apparent to McCoy, outside of the practice squad. Perhaps they just think Shady and Gore are here for this year, and then they go young after they are gone.

DrDawkinstein
Great move! The best RB we could have gotten out of Jacksonville (yes, that's a Fournette dig). 14 Free Agents added on the Offensive side of the ball this offseason. Side note: I also think this opens us up for Bryce Love in the 4th.

Love still comes with a TON of risk so I don’t see them handing him the keys in 2020 but he would be a great option to compete for it if healthy.

RBs are more likely than most positions to be pro ready right off the bat, so I’m guessing they wait till next year’s draft and target one on day 2 rather than picking one now to red shirt. I think TJY is a solid pick up.
MrEpsYtown
I love this. I think he becomes the James White type guy in this offense. White had 87 freaking catches last year. That safety valve out of the backfield is important imo becuase you can't cover that guy and spy the quarterback. You have to pick your poison. With Beasley working the slot, Brown and Foster on the outside and (maybe Hockenson), plus a quarterback who can run at a high level, I think defenses will be stretched thin. I would actually like that.... Parley the 10 picks into 4-5 top-3 round picks. Go for quality over quantity this year. Sure, other teams will trade their 2nd and 3rd picks for a our 4th, 5th and 6th round picks. That happens all of the time? More likely scenario is we trade our 2 and a mid rounder to move up into the 2nd or even late first. We trade our 3rd and a mid rounder to move up in the 3rd. I doubt we come out of this with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds unless we trade down in round 1.

Logic
Unless Shady gets traded, I don't see how the Bills can draft a running back this year. The Bills under McDermott typically keep 4 halfbacks, with the 4th guy being primarily for special teams contributions. Right now, the Bills have: McCoy Gore Yeldon Perry Perry was signed specifically because he's a special teams dynamo. So unless the Bills feel that the running back they draft is going to push Perry off the roster with superior special teams play (won't be easy to do, Perry is a quality STer), I just don't see where a rookie fits on the roster. And for those who will be quick to say "oh, that's easy, he takes Perry's spot"...again, not so fast. The Bills are committed to having an RB4 who can contribute in a huge way on special teams.
