It's kind of perfect if you think about it. He already has the blocking technique down. It's probably easier to learn to run routes and catch the ball than be an effective blocker. BuffaloBillsGospel
Not a bad move even though he was a bust as an OL he could be a solid blocker at the TE position, the more people blocking for Allen the merrier I say.

He never actually blocked anyone while playing OT for four years so he has little wear and tear and can probably still run. 1

MrEpsYtown
I'm good with this. I wanted the team to sign a cheap guy like Eric Tomlinson, who is a 6-6, 265 lbs tight end who re-signed with the Jets after they non tendered him. Fisher is a much better athlete, bigger, and has bigger upside for sure. Daboll did some fun stuff last year with unbalanced formations, so having a guy like this can add to the variety. Let's see what happens. I still think they should look into Maxx Williams and roll with 4 tight ends like the Ravens. I also do do not think this keeps them from drafting a guy high. Both Fisher and Croom are longshot projects who are on the opposite sides of styles. Edited March 22, 2019 by MrEpsYtown

brianb386
I don't expect that Fisher will ever be a top notch receiving TE, but if he can develop into a solid blocking TE who has a but of recieving talent, that would be good to have.
Logic
I'm an admitted optimist, but I like the signing. First of all, he comes with 2nd round pedigree as an offensive lineman, so putting him on the field as a tight end should be a real boon to the running game. Secondly, having him in goal line jumbo packages should present one more tool in Daboll's toolbox. Third, these are the type of "low risk, high reward" signings I always like. The Bills have literally NOTHING to lose by giving this a try. There's no guarantee he even makes the team. Fourth, his addition gives the Bills just a little bit more draft day flexibility, as they now have three tight ends on the roster: a classic in-line guy (Kroft), a move tight end/receiving option (Croom), and a blocking specialist (Fisher). While we all want and expect a rookie to be drafted at tight end, it is no longer QUITE such a dire need, from a "personnel already on board" standpoint. Between this and Mo Alexander and hosting Quinton Spain, I'm liking what I'm seeing from "wave 2" of Bills free agency.

atlbillsfan1975
Be nice if he turns out to be the reverse Jason Peters! Some big big guys have great hands but their weight slows them down. 285 is still big enough to block DE and linebackers and he should be quick enough to get out for a catch or block DB’s.

Logic
1 minute ago, Fan in Chicago said: Goal line packages will now have Fisher as tackle eligible and Gore at RB. People keep saying this, but Fisher is signed and rostered as a tight end. So wouldn't he just line up as one of the usual 2 or 3 TEs in the goal-line package? I don't see why we'd have a tight end up line up as tackle. His addition still strengthens the goal line package, don't get me wrong, it just does so in a different way: Some poor linebacker or safety is going to be blocked by a converted tackle. Good look to that poor chump!
