Is trading Milano something Bills should consider?

Recommended Posts

With the emergence of Bernard, Dodson, Williams and Spector; and considering other holes to fill and limited cap space, does it make any sense to consider seeking a high pick for Milano?

I love Milano’s playing style and impact, it’s just interesting to think about what he could fetch in a trade/shedding his cap hit, and using a high pick in a loaded draft.

Nope.

Totally ignoring the money, it still doesn't make sense. But with the massive dead money hit this would cause it makes even less.

Spotrac has the first potential out year as the offseason after 2025.

No. Dodson is a free agent, Spector is a backup and I don't know we have seen enough from Williams yet to say he can definitely play. I'm actually looking forward to a year of Bernard and Milano. That feels like a playmaking combo to me.

we have a great player in Milano and there is not enough value in trading him. if he were a malcontent or distraction perhaps things owuld be different but there is no reason to beileve that he cannot be a part of this team going forward.

For sure. They looked to be becoming a wrecking crew before Milano went down. Now that Bernard has a full year under his belt… I want to see the damage they can do to opposing offenses. Hopefully Beane can take care of DT well, so the two can stay clean and play fast next season.

There is no shedding his cap hit by trading. They extended his contract last year in order to reduce huis cap hit last year. You know how that works? By taking money paid to him last year and prorating it over future years. Trading accelerates all that prorated cap to this year.

In other words, keeping him costs us $12.4 million against the cap. Trading him costs us $25.2 million against the cap. Trading him would result in us losing $12.5 million in cap space, plus we wouldn't have him on the team anymore, so his replacement on the roster would cost us that much more.

Next.

Nope. Not to mention that nobody would want an often injured LB who’s going to be 30 at the start of the season. Don’t care how good he is, you aren’t getting a team to trade for him. At least not enough for it to be worth it on our end.

Can we all agree that the bills would’ve had an even better record if Milano didn’t get injured last year? There was a gaping hole in the middle of the defense EVEN when Daquan Jones came back

Switching to a 34 would be the second

I disagree. Switching to a 3-4 is way “sillier” than just getting rid of Milano. We would have to revamp the whole defense. We just paid Oliver and he doesn’t fit. Rousseau doesn’t fit a 3-4 at all. He can’t be a stand up OLB. Miller does (and obviously has), but who knows if he will return to form. And he’s probably only around one more season anyway. Also Bernard probably doesn’t fit either. So moving to a 3-4 would mean getting rid of pretty much everyone on the first two levels of the defense - including Milano. So that way, way, way worse.

i'd trade him if the cap hit wasn't huge and we got tremendous value.

but the cap hit is huge, and he's a great player at a lower valued position, so the value we'd get for him would very close to certainly wouldn't be huge so doesn't seem like much there.

to me the greatest ability is availability, so while he's one of our best players when he's healthy, he misses enough games to be a concern.  that said, he's prolly worth his contract plus to us so what would you trade him for?  another expensive player or picks which may or may not work out?

Milano's injury history is a concern for me. If I could get nice compensation for him, I'd consider trading him. Edgerrin Cooper would look nice in a Bills uniform.

Yes. This is what the great teams do. They develop and re-sign their top homegrown players to reasonable contracts, then trade them for cap relief at the height of their careers. No. No they don’t.

We seem to want him though. And players rolling into your leg and it snapping isn’t really an injury prone injury.

One of the few legit super stars we have and u think we should trade him ? SMH. Milano would’ve been the key difference in that KC game and directly one of the reasons we lost.

Well we didn’t have Milano or Bernard. I’ve seen Milano in the playoffs, so far he hasn’t been that impact guy. Not sure he’ll all of a sudden be that guy as he gets deeper into his 30’s.

Bernard is the guy I’m hoping steps up in the playoffs because we haven’t seen him in the playoffs yet.

That’s not true. Milano was one of the only players that showed up during the Cincinnati disaster.
