ESPN -Dead Company walking?

22,000 viewers/day leaving the network. Once the premiere sports network, has become a complete waste of sports fans time. Granted, streaming is killing cable, but this show has been dying for years. Aside from Wilbon & Cornhieser (which I don’t watch anymore either), I literally can’t stand any of their talking heads. Stephen A?, Keyshawn? Steve Levy? Bayless? Irvin?

Fuggetaboutit !

yep

you cannot just quit espn channels a la carte - this is called cord-cutting where subscribers drop service tier(s) or service all together.

what is being discussed is thinly veiled politics which should be blocked but has not because the mods have not yet noticed or are tolerating...

 Cord cutting is a scam.

we are all going to get screwed. Rather than 60 or 80 bucks a month for cable, you’ll be paying $15 for Netflix, $15 for ESPN+, $12 for Hulu, $15 for HBO max, etc etc etc.

And of course, it takes way longer to find something you want to watch by switching these streaming services.

We have been hoodwinked.

And non-stop coverage of Lebron James and Tim Tebow

Yeah I think it has less to do with the political stuff than it does the constantly underwhelming talent.

Use to love ESPN in the good ol' days, now it just seems like a bunch of people yelling and screaming at each other with little to no insight on actual sports. Much prefer cherry picking what I want to see off YouTube for free.

I think I'd rather listen to ESPN than Dead and Company.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't understand the reference. I really like the Grateful Dead (went to about 40 shows from '73 - '90, several in Buffalo at the stadium like the one with 10,000 Maniacs and the one with Dylan, and at the Aud and a great one at Shea). I haven't seen Dead and Co., but the music is good, although I think we all miss Jerry. Is this something about John Mayer? Honestly, I'm confused. Okay - I am getting old. I re-read the title 🤪

40 shows of the same band?  Why so many?  Did you forget that you went?  J/K :P

Who's gonna miss them when they're gone?  Who wants to watch a bunch of blowhards and a posse of ex-Patriot players try and churn out click bait?

Agree.. used to watch the Sunday Pre-Game back in the day when Chris Berman hosted it , came on at 11 AM.., was all legit , actual , pre-game stuff.. now its a clown show ..

ESPN pushed their own demise by getting away from just sports. The majority of my students know athletes more by their out of sports persona- fashion, food, whatever- than by their actual sports ability. ESPN did not need to cover all the other parts as deeply as they did. Once the other stuff eclipsed 50% of the time I had no use for ESPN.

When ABC had the Indy 500 we were slammed with coverage on the website. Today a fantastic race and it took them over a hour to post even who the winner was. So much for World Wide Leader. I bet so many of the people that left must just laugh at them.

This has nothing to do with "political stands" and everything to do with changing societal norms and patterns.

For the most part, a quick soundbite of information on Twitter is all you need in the world of sports.

People just don't sit in front of a machine tied to a room called a "TV" to get information now--especially sports information.

It makes total sense that ESPN would be dying.

It is the politics - if I want to listen to politics I am not getting on a sports channel, but more so the contrived arguments. Everybody is given a point to defend and get overly loud defending it even if it is makes no sense. In the old days they had sports and sports highlights .. and that was about it. It was great TV

It's hard for companies to accept change and transition these days. ESPN has alot of footholds in some sports, NFL isn't one of them, but I couldn't see their college football content going away.

The company will have to make major changes and downsize to what they do well to survive.

If I was them I'd sell MNF, it isn't what it used to be.

Well holy hell pigs must fly and the world must be ending soon, because Chandler and I agree on something!!!

I never watch in real time.  I still go to the website and occasionally will click a short video clip from time to time.  Had ESPN+ subscription back in the day but cancelled probably 6 years or so ago.

It's the World Wide Leader in "Sports."

ESPN+ went up 66% in 2021 to 17 million subscribers.  Get ready to figure out how to download ESPN+ onto your TV in five years for MNF.

Yep.

Bunch of people who use corded television or what they can get for free online think ESPN is dying or not evolving.

Novel concept!

Pun intended.  :)

I read almost every day at lunch. I go to the book table at Costco and look for stuff I like, then give them to my mom’s retirement place for their library. My shelves have plenty, let others enjoy them.

ESPN is hot garbage. Their shows all have the same formula. A bunch of guys all yelling at the same time. No thanks! Hiring The Booger McFarland to staunchly defend the crack back block call on Cody Ford (which later received an apology letter from the NFL) is indefensible. He’s an insufferable clown, and I’ll avoid the network just on him alone. Mike & Mike was the last decent thing they had.

I haven’t looked in a while, but if you want a real laugh check out their college basketball recruiting. It’s a dumpster fire of indifference and incompetence. They should shut that down completely, because it’s embarrassingly weak and out of date. Less (as in ZERO) would be more, there.
