It is, but it certainly helps to be a world-class athlete as well. By hole 13-14 (no cart) I'm usually like "How many holes do we have left??" 🤪 Poyer clearly attacked the game with some serious determination - glad it helped him out so much!!! Hope he has the structure in place to maintain it... As far as Lorax goes, not surprised he was there for a teammate. I think the loss of his leadership and intensity was more significant to the overall performance of the D last year than we realize. 1 1

Punching Bag
For players who retire with team (i.e. Wood, Lorax, Kyle) they should be offered assistant positions during playoffs and then when we win Superbowl they can get their rings. 1

Guys all checking out each other's upcoming putt on the green (like it'll make any difference) when the fairways and tee box are filled with folks waiting to hit a ball. 🤬🤬

Yeah, his athleticism probably helps a lot. But even the greatest athletes struggle with golf, given how counter intuitive and highly mechanical it is. I think Poyer probably has an elite “sports IQ” more than anything. I had the good fortune of playing golf with a lot of NFL Players at charity events over the years. I think the athleticism only gets you so far. Some of these guys play many times per week (the retired ones), and they are 20 handicappers, at best, and hitting your bad slices and worm burners, etc.

It can become a replacement vice for people who struggle with drugs and alcohol. Even for me personally, to a lesser extreme, but when I was coming off my harder partying years, golf kind've became my replacement "fix"

eball
Very happy Poyer got his life back on track. For a professional athlete I’m not at all surprised to see him get his handicap down that quickly. Golf is all about muscle memory and focus. Think too much and you’re doomed. An athlete conditioned to be disciplined can handle that.
