T master Posted March 18, 2021 Share Posted March 18, 2021 It use to be said that Buffalo was a place that none of the FA's wanted to go and we all can remember all the reasons why but but most all of the reasons except maybe the weather excuse has changed & now the Bills look pretty dam good to a lot of FA's but some say they still don't want to be here and some of the youngsters would rather be in a party town . Which if you don't want to be a Buffalo Bill SEE YAH HAVE A NICE LIFE !! Or as Panco Billa might say ADIOS AMIGO 😜... I was wondering which team is now the worst looking destination for a FA ? Which city or franchise do you think these players tell their Agent's "I don't want to go here" ! I know money has a lot to do with the decision and could change a some players minds if they get a boat load of cash or as they say generational money . But some no matter what don't want to go to some teams no matter the cash and i wonder which team you might think that would be . My choice is Detroit they have been bad for a long time despite having Stafford which i have always thought was a above average QB but their handling of Megatron and other reasons makes me think that is the one place that there either has to be a boat load of cash or like AP was a last resort to play his career out . While they appear to have their QB, until they prove it on the field as was the case here in Buffalo, FA's will still be hesitant to go there. Bears may also be close, while a large city with lots to do, other than that not much to show. Bad weather, high taxes, and team for the most parts has been rowing in circles for years. A couple times they get back close to shore only to drift back to the middle of the lake by the following year or two. Could argue the Mario Williams signing is like their K Mack. Houston's FO upheaval probably scares off some guys for this year. I would've put Cleveland on this list during the drought years for many many years to go along with Buffalo, but that's changed along the same timeline with us, imho. Weather aside, it's the cult of Aaron Rodgers there and they never seem to be big spenders since Rodgers alone accounts for nearly 21% of their available cap space. The Bengals haven't won a playoff game since 1990 and only offer terrible weather, terrible uniforms, terrible track record in drafting and a miserly owner. To the plus side, Joe Burrow may right the ship there, the stadium is pretty nice and it appears they've done some good work on the new uniforms. Why did Mario Williams choose Buffalo? He liked the money and who knew he really liked small towns. Some guys may like big places, others not so much. H2o Posted March 18, 2021 Share Posted March 18, 2021 The Jets have swung and missed on basically every top OL FA over the last 2 seasons even though they had plenty of $$$. They did get Lawson, Jarrad Davis, and Corey Davis (whom I personally just see as an average WR) so they got more this year than last. But unless Saleh gets them headed in the right direction this year, then I expect them to have trouble again next offseason. If JuJu goes there it's still a big meh for me outside of Lawson. Jax has been a bad team, but has the #1 overall pick, a new coach, no state taxes, decent climate, etc. so they might be considered more than in the recent past. Buffalo certainly was on that list for many years, but with the current regime, great team culture, state of the art facilities, and recent success, it has become a more attractive destination. Prob because Belichick is a difficult coach to play for combined with the fact that they are no longer perennial SB favorites. Other than that.. I'll echo some of the other teams people have mentioned: Cinci, Detroit, and the 2 new jersey teams. But those teams are mainly just not preferred b/c of instability and inability to win. I actually love the city (it’s basically Kentucky, not really Ohio) but players turn their nose up because it’s a turrible organization, they don’t even have an indoor practice facility. In the same regard that WNY is cold in winter, summers in Florida are basically hot enough to melt lead and crazy humid. That state would be practically uninhabitable if not for central air. Moved here in 2016. They are exact inverses of each other. Florida’s hot humid weather lasts about 5 months. In that time there are about a half dozen days where it’s just too miserable to go out. I laughed at people wearing parkas when the temp barely dipped below 70. But like anything you get used to it and now I really have an internal debate if I want to golf when it’s 65 out. I used to think that on the tax part several years ago, but I’ve seen too many players opt for other teams over the three in FL and the two in Texas. Besides if you live in Orlando, it’s like clockwork each year there is an article in the Tampa or Orlando papers about how all of the impact fees and other taxes ends up comparing for many to the ones who have state taxes. I think you look around the league and what teams are just a mess. Now, it’s Jax, Detroit, the Jets, Houston, and Chicago. Think of the teams who don’t have even remotely a QB. When teams like SF (I think many players like Jimmy G. more than fans), AZ, GB, etc. If it weren’t for it being Vegas, I can see players not really crazy about Gruden. He wore out his welcome here in the 2000’s. I know Houston is in full rebuild, but if Watson stays, I would change my mind about Houston not a destination. Players want to be on winning teams especially a reputation for good Mgmt, coaching, and Josh Allen. It would’ve destroyed this city for a decade. I can honestly tell ROC , I am not a tough guy, but I’m not scared easily. Charlie was a cat 5, tightly spun, and was going to destroy Tampa. I had three babies at the time, and the roads were crazy with people trying to get out. We put all three in the same bedroom and had the news on. When it was heading directly to us 40 minutes to landfall, we went from watching the news to literally all three of us on our knees, holding hands saying our fathers over and over again. My wife was crying, my oldest son was five and he was scared out of his mind. When my buds from Buffalo were trying to kid with me, I told them a lot of people died in that storm. Calling it a storm doesn’t even do it justice. I’ll. Take a blizzard any day of the week. Anyway, this is a football forum so I won’t bore you guys with more details.
