I think they have to inspect every helmet for safety, so maybe changing the rule requires additional helmets to be inspected. But as far as I'm concerned, players and teams should be able to have as many helmets certified for use as they want, as far as safety is concerned. I can see there being aesthetic restrictions, though. Some college teams have so many helmet configurations it's absurd. NFL wants to maintain their brand and image so have strict uniform policies. Greg S
I was never a fan of the red helmets. The Bills have the perfect uniforms(just lose the garbage blue on blue, and red on red) along with the white helmet. The white helmet with the charging Buffalo or white helmet with the standing Buffalo(throwbacks) are both great. 12 1 1

Bookie Man
Yes! Why has this taken so long!? I've been asking this for the past 8 YEARS! Why does this rule even exist? There is zero reason that I can think of. I like the white lids, but I also miss seeing the red ones. Everybody wins in this scenario. I've even seen a blue Bills helmet before that looks freakin sweet also. Throw that in once a year. So many beautiful uniform combo possibilities. Am I the only one that wants to see red numbers on the away jerseys? AM I?!

I NEVER liked the red helmets (watching since the 70’s) so I was elated when they went back to white. 1

I am guessing Kim is in charge of the uniform combos. It seems like the Bills have 5 different home uniforms that they use. Early in the year when its hot is white on white. Then switch over to blue on white. Then they get an all white throwback in there around home game 4 or 5. Then they finish the year when it gets colder with the all reds and all blues. If they bring back the red helmet then Kim will use it with the all reds would be my guess. Edited March 25, 2020 by Greg S

Yes. I hate that Oregon changes every week. When Stanford, Duke, Oklahoma State and UCLA where black, it looks dumb.

msw2112
I was not a fan of the red helmets at the time, but I got used to them after a while. I believe the whites ones they wear today look better, but wearing the reds as a throwback to the most successful years in the history of the franchise might be a cool look. I'm not into uniforms that much and I think the Bills are fine, but I did really hate the Sabres' goat head and banana slug uniforms and believe that they look way better in royal blue vs. navy blue - the Bills too. Rubes
I loved the red helmets, almost as much as the red end zones. I do really like the white helmets now as well, but it would be great to see the red ones back for a game or two. Just say no, however, to the red helmet with the white standing buffalo. That was an abomination.
MJS
I like the white helmets better, but I like mixing it up. Luckily ownership seems to be of the same opinion. We get different combos throughout the season and that makes things fun. Wouldn't mind seeing the red helmets again for a game a season.

His helmet was no longer allowed so he threw a fit. 8 minutes ago, Hardhatharry said: It's been so they don't get sued for allowing a player to use a helmet not approved by the NFL. I think it is simply a logistical thing of inspecting double the helmets if they allow each player two instead of one.
Taro T
Don't mind seeing the red helmets for throwbacks to those early '90's unis. Really like the current blue shirts with white pants and white shirts w/ either blue or white. Only tweak to make if better would be to go back to the blue face masks rather than the current gray ones.

4_kidd_4
Meh to the red helmets, personally. But I’m honestly surprised they kept the one helmet rule for so long, more helmets/looks per team equals more opportunity for the league to sell more crap.
