You compare Dan Marino to Kirk Cousins?

You're blocked.

I have lived in Miami, and watched a ton of Marino games and many in person.   He was an amazingly talented passer, but not a  great QB if your goal is to win the game.  A very over rated player.   There are several QBs from the 80's - 90's that I would choose over Marino.

Other than Joe Montana, who exactly was Marino worse than in the 80's and 90's?

It seems like Diggs has been more hurt than that and missed more games but either way Diggs is also a lot more inconsistent than Green is.

Green has played 8 seasons, and his highest catch rate is 66%.  That would be the worst of Diggs’s career excluding his rookie season.   Diggs has a catch rate of 68.4% for his career compared to Green’s 58.7%.  They have an identical 8.7 yards per target for their careers.   If Green is better, it’s not by much and that’s if he’s healthy.

I still think the Vikings have flexibility to free up $$$ outside of Diggs that makes more sense. The fact they have been quite uninhibited handing out those contracts though is finally catching up with them. They have more than a couple of bad ones, but Diggs isn't one of them tbh. Just cutting Linval Joseph and Xavier Rhodes could free up something like $18,000,000 for them I believe.

Just a quick question, can we sign Xavier Rhodes if Minny cuts him? I'd love to have 2 of the 10 best CBs in the league.

I'm curious too. Steve Young? John Elway? In the conversation. Jim Kelly? But I'm a homer.

What would SF, Dallas, Buffalo, Denver or KC have done in the 80s-90s with their respective teams and Dan Marino?

It feels like multiple rings to me.

I find the Marino bashing funny.

Where was his Thurman Thomas, Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis, Ricky Watters, Roger Craig, Ernest Byner, Marshall Faulk?

I'm not talking about catch radius, I'm talking about production on a game to game basis. Diggs disappears for multiple games at a time frequently. Green might have a bad game here and there but is all around more consistent. AJ Green when completely healthy can be a top 5 receiver. Diggs at his best right now is maybe between 10-15

I sure hope we end up signing Diggs. I think he might develop chemistry with Josh very quickly, and could probably even have the best receiving year in Bills franchise history! This guy would be a legitimate #1 in the right offense. I mean, he could carry us to the AFC Championship Game! (I think they still might not be able to get past KC, though.)

Yea ok......I don’t see any of that happening. Diggs is overrated IMO , much better/cheaper options in the draft. If Beane makes this trade I’d be highly disappointed!

Clearly a locker room cancer.  Hope Beane moves on from this nonsense.

I'm prepared to make a rather significant wager on this. I say he gets between 70-80 catches, might clear 1,000 yards but I'm not that willing to put that much money on the yardage part. I'm thinking like "Peak Stevie Johnson".

Some freezing cold takes in this thread. LOLZ at the people who thought Thielen was better than Diggs

I never thought this myself for one second. And really couldn't understand why those that did came to that conclusion.

Glad to see I was on the right side of this one 😂

lol, you and some others. Think it was a no brainer at the time. I mean to at least attempt to get him. Obviously we needed more help with passing game. However I didn't think Bills would get him though. Thought he would have went with another team. Very glad to see Bills as a very desirable team to play for now.

I was a wrong josh guy, glad I redeemed myself here lol

Lol, I was a Baker guy at that time, but obviously knew he wouldn't last when Bills picked. Very happy how it turned out though.

Diggs is good, but I wouldn't give a 1st for him with that contract AND he might be unhappy with it.

For this year, I'd like to keep our 1st and 2nd round pick.  I'd see if they would take a 2020 3rd and 2021 3rd round pick for Diggs.

That way we can draft for needs in the 1st and 2nd.  Still would like to get another WR in the draft.

This was the weirdest take for me at the time.  Was a great contract for someone widely regarded as a top 10 WR.

just a third, if Minnesota  wants to get rid of him no need to overpay.

Offering a third for Diggs would have been like all the cheapskates lowballing me with $500 offers for my Mustang.  Becomes a "I'll tow it to a scrap yard before I take such an insulting offer" situation.  As if other teams wouldn't be willing to do better than a 3rd.  You don't spit in someone's face and then say you did them a favor by moisturizing their dry skin.

That's classic.  Oughtta be a proverb.  Hope you don't mind if I steal it.

I think most of the opinions were pretty valid at the time. Diggs had a breakout year. Yeah, everyone knew he was a good receiver, but at the time there was not evidence of him being an All-Pro receiver and being able to lead the league in receptions and receiving yards.

And those who thought Thielen was better were justified in how the Vikings used them both. Thielen seemed to be the go-to receiver there with Diggs used as a deep threat.

At the time of the trade there were tons of people saying we overpaid, including Bills fans. Turns out we did not overpay and Diggs was a huge difference maker and proved he could be one of the best receivers in the league. But at the time, Diggs had had a couple of 1,000 yard seasons and showed he was a great route runner, but he had not shown that he was an All-Pro caliber receiver yet.

I was not against the trade when it happened and I was hopeful of what Diggs could mean to the offense, but I don't think it was wrong for others to have been worried about the move and think we gave up too much at the time.

Go ahead I guess, I just modified it from "Don't spit on me and tell me it's raining" to fit the idea of "doing them a favor" by taking something valuable from them.

Phew.  Was worried I was going to hate on it.  I hadn’t seen much of Diggs the prior season and wasn’t a big fan of him, due to my buddy (a huge Vikings fan) always telling me how amazing his was.

Turns out, my scenario would’ve been best case.  Trade down, accumulate more picks, than trade our first pick for Diggs.  😊
