PIZ
Maybe it was Beane himself who was interviewed. It works in his favor if someone is critical of it, and then he looks like the genius he is when they go to the Playoffs again. He is building competition by signing these guys, so there won't be players starting by default. The best players will win the job. One thing about Beane, is that he learns from his mistakes, and won't make the same ones again.

Is our entire line going to forget how to pass block because of this contract? Whats his point. How about that extra 1.5 we gave Kevin Johnson on a 1 year deal. Stop counting your chickens before they hatch.... actually keep doing it, it's quite comical how wrong you always are.? Scott, Your consistency in balancing the "over exuberance" of posters is sometimes not appreciated. I for one have used some of your comments to temper my sometimes childlike excitement myself. You are my resident "Slave behind Caesars on his chariot whispering 'All Glory is Fleeting'" and I have come to count on it. It reminds me of my father who also held this trait. That being said, I hope that your "soothsaying" is wrong about this years upcoming OL play. I so want to see Josh Allen develop into a great QB for the Bills and to do that he needs an OL that lets him succeed. Cheers!

Mark Long Beach
If the quote came from an NFL exec, I am not surprised that he has an strong opinion. You (usually) don't get to that position without convictions in yourself and your opinion. Misguided or not. Clearly this person has a wildly different view on how to build a team. Shrug. I hope he's wrong. From what I see and understand of the universe and football, I like what Bean is doing. Some of it does seem like it's adding by volume and hope to find some good or very good ones out of the mix. Kind of like lots of draft picks. Throw a lot against the wall to see what sticks. I will say, this year we've signed a whole lot higher quality of players. NFL level starters or near starters. Hopefully a lot of them stick to the wall well. I do wish a couple of the 1 year deals were 2 year deals, because I think we will want to hold on to some of these players, but it takes two to tango. I understand that they want to get paid. They signed two proven quality starters..... but Spain is a 1 year deal so it shouldn't stop them from drafting one. Maybe. I don’t know the guy well but I read in the Spain thread that PFF had him as the 40th best guard in the league and that his play has declined the last two seasons so I’m not sure that qualifies him as proven quality. Ignore PFF when it comes to Spain. His 2017 season was outstanding. He wasn't quite as good in 2018, granted. But he is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. He was the best FA guard available, he is a quality starter and he is a perfect schematic fit for what Buffalo were trying to run under Daboll. I guarantee by week 4 people will be clamouring for the Bills to extend him. 2

It's a bit odd that the OL FA signees are large but more proficient pass blockers than run blockers. I think we need to draft a straight up run blocker in the first 4 rounds. Whether it be a first/second round guy or a developmental player. Our scheme was awful under Castillo, so Rob Johnson would pretty much have to be an upgrade.
#34fan
The plan should be geared 100% toward winning the AFCE. -That means dominance. So far, the best piece they've acquired is at center.... Allen does not have the greatest ball placement AND he isn't a West coast/timing type passer. The perfect companion for Allen is a bigger WR with a large catch radius who can compete for balls and catch them up high. Guys who work well on broken plays after Allen scrambles. i think the guys we've brought it are good, especially Beasley, but I'm not so sure they will mesh with Allen well. When I've seen Allen miss, he's not necessarily missing high, consistently. He is sometimes missing in front of the guy or low, and needs someone who can find an extra gear or who is willing to lay out. Above all right now Allen needs guys who are where and when they're supposed to be. As we have seen, big guys who should theoretically have a great catch radius and be able to haul in anything within their zip code don't always work out.
