And for the 9 years leading up both were absolutely irrelevant and terrible.

Geno is on his 4th team, he's 32.

Both were terrible picks.

I'm not sure I have ever heard this before...kind of funny why it never happened as both QBs fell out of favor on their respective teams.

Reminds me of Gregggg Williams claiming he wanted to draft Drew Brees in 2001.

Geno has been in the league 10 years and hasn't done anything until this year which may be a Pete mirage because apparently Wilson is trash too.

Manuel was more of a "franchise QB" type due to his mannerisms. I totally think that EJ was ruined by the coaching staff of Saint Doug

We didn’t have nine years to wait for Geno Smith to develop

He might have been better early on with the right system around him like what we gave Josh who was also a work in progress. No telling how it would have turned out but does anyone dispute that Geno is the better QB?

Geno has had a terrible career up to this point. I think it's a wash. Bad QB class all around.

I just don't think it matters. It happened to long ago. Why do we need to dispute these things? Nobody cares.

Before Seattle, Geno was just as bad if not worse then EJ. Either way, they both were God awful. Pete apparently is a QB whisperer.

Anyone, including Geno Smith, would have been better that TuhROD.

Funny because Tyrod played significantly better then both before this exact season (geno), weird flex. tyrod was the qb that played for us when the streak ended, even if he was very average. Some bills fans have a weird hate for tyrod

It worked out for both of them 🙂

They were going to pick Geno. But when they brought him in for a visit he was terrible. Unprepared, disengaged, flunked the white board session. Geno's immaturity both as a person and a football player is why he washed out with the Jets. He was the worst decision maker on a football field I think I have ever seen. He always threw a nice football. He has one of the most attractive throwing motions in the game. His late career renaissance such as it is with Seattle (has fallen off somewhat down the stretch) is in part a sign of a guy who has matured.

But while EJ is certainly not the best QB from that class had the Bills drafted Geno instead he'd have failed here like he failed in New York because he wasn't ready to be a pro.

And yet some people wonder we we suffered a 20 year drought.

LOL!

No he wasn't. Despite his college stats looking good, Manuel held Florida State back from a National Title in 2012. I truly believe that. He was slow to read his progressions in college and had too many errors at Florida State. When Buffalo took him at 16, I knew he was going to bust after watching him for 3 years there. He didn't have the traits to be a great QB.

Manuel's also threw a ton of screens and dump off passes that made his completion percentage look better than it was. He was the polar opposite of Josh Allen who was undersold on his accuracy because he played in a vertical passing game in terrible weather with a terrible team. Manuel had a fantastic team who played in great weather who couldn't accurately throw the ball.

Manuel left the Bills for the Raiders and in 2019 joined the Chiefs with head coach Andy Reid.  He wasn't ruined, he just didn't have what it takes.

Was he trying to get him punched in the face again?

That's what I was trying to recall.....  Geno was involved in a locker room situation where he either had his jaw broken or... he broke a teammates jaw. .... Regardless, it was not a good look for him or his team. ...... I was (like many) hoping EJ would be the answer to our QB problem. But he obviously wasn't. Ten years later, I'm getting a kick outta  Geno having such a strong year this far into his career ..... I'm glad for him ..... perseverance paying off.... I actually didn't think he was in the league anymore. ..PERSEVERANCE

That was IK Enemkpali, who Rex later brought here. He decked Geno for not paying his gambling debt! Can you imagine Rex then bringing him here if IK was still on the team (not sure if he would have been)? LOL. Good old Rex.

It is very interesting that Wilson has absolutely crashed and burned and now Geno is playing lights out. It does make you wonder how critical is coaching / system to the success of the “greats.”
