So if I've got it right, Chrisman was one of the best punters in the league at Ohio State, but he never played an NFL snap and spent the season on the Bengals PS?

Edit: Yolo set me straight, he was at Cincinnati, not Ohio State.

Hes actually from Cincinnati too. But yes he was signed by the bengals last year as a UDFA.

I think he may be contemplating retirement... i just dont think he wants to go to just any team. It would have to be the right scenario. Thankfully i think we may be perfect seeing as he is from Buffalo area and likely has family in area. And the fact that we are a superbowl contender.

Punting for the Bills is semi-retirement

Chrisman presents an interesting debate IMO. Kern is a safe, known commodity. He is also 36. He can be the short-term solution. Chrisman could be here for 15 years but may not be as good right now (he may be). Chrisman will likely come cheaper as well. I’m fine either way but it is interesting.

Chrisman needs some refinement, that's likely why Bengals cut him. I'm sure he'll be on someone's practice squad this season.

Think there was a report stating that Josh is the best punter at Two Bills Drive, currently.

Years ago one of the best punters in the league was Randall Cunningham, but they wouldn't let him punt except once in a while.  He had 20 punts for a 44.7 average but while with the Eagles he punted 12 times averaging 51.7 yards per punt.  He never had a punt blocked and has the 3rd longest punt in NFL history at 91 yards:

I don’t necessarily agree. It was a surprise to most that he was cut. He’s better than a lot of guys on active rosters, like Haack. He is also cheap and young. He will be someone’s punter this year IMO.

I don't doubt it. Cunningham was an amazing athlete!

Daryle Lamonica, the Mad Bomber was the Bills punter as a rookie in 1963, 52 punts that year.  Replaced by Maguire

Maguire was a good punter, when he was not too hung over to connect with the ball. (just kidding.  RIP Paul, al legendary character in Bills history)

We play Thursday night not Sunday!! Just a reminder Beane! I’m getting impatient! 😄

They will wait until tomorrow. Move Stephenson to IR now that he’s on the 53. Then go with Martin or Kern.

Kickers do NOT want to play for good teams. They want to make $2M-$4M a year in complete obscurity without anyone noticing for as long as possible and they never want to be the cause of a loss anyone cares about. They especially like indoor stadiums where they can rack up stats.

Tucker hates his $5M from the Ravens crappy team on grass 😆

I figured we'd have signed Kern by now.

One report said he was weighing several options. Perhaps Bills reached out and he asked for a few days to get back to them. They still have several decent options so not forced to panic quite yet.

Honestly we could have put in a waiver claim for Drue Chrisman as well if Bills are looking for younger and cheaper... if this is case we wouldnt find out till tomorrow

Drue Chrisman makes sense cap wise. No experience but makes sense.

Cutting OJ Howard might impact our decision who we sign.

For this team, I should think that the biggest deal will be holding during place kicking...

Why can't Tyler Bass learn how to kick field goals by drop kick? Then we won't need a holder.
