Success
I'll be the umpteenth to say it - but Dallas lost that game fair & square. Penalties, a bad playcall w/ the clock ticking down, not knowing that the ref had to place the ball. And they weren't on the 1 yard line. All they missed was a chance at a hail mary. Face it, Cowboys. You blew it again. They're the blueprint for how I want the next quarter century to go for New England.

Their offensive line was atrocious and their big name playmakers dropped balls. I expected the 49ers to win. I thought they would beat Dallas. In the end I am not sure they did. Dallas beat themselves. McCarthy's seat should already be smouldering hot going into next season (in the event he isn't fired today) but as for all those people who wanted to interview Kellen Moore? Really?? There was one young hotshot in a headset in that game last night I'd consider as my next coach if I had a vacancy but that was DeMeco Ryans. He did a hell of a job even as his best players fell like flies. That game was just terrible football. I like that 14 teams make the playoffs............but WC weekend this year was a combo of overmatched blowouts and bad head coaches getting a chance to display just how bad they are. Between the shots of McCarthy looking befuddled and ready to burst into a pile of puss and Big Ben's pathetic soft tossing yesterday it was rough on the eyeballs. The real playoffs start next week. 2

I was never a fan of the playoff extension. I'm still not to be honest. There was one good quality and competitive game and that was the #4 seed vs the #5 seed in the AFC. I suspect we will get another one tonight with another #4 seed playing a #5 seed in the NFC. I'm not sure I needed to see Philly or Pittsburgh stinking up the joint.

unbillievable
Dallas got an extra 2yds and 3seconds, but it was still too late. Dak's knee was down at the 26yd line. Cowboys tried to spot the ball at the 23yd line. The ref (in a hurry) spotted the ball back at the 24yd line. All 5 Dallas Olinemen were Offside. The Center brought it forward from between his legs and snapped it. the ref tried to screw the 49ers. The umpire went the wrong way and blew the whistle early trying to give Dallas enough time to snap it. Romo also mentions, during the timeout, that any play in-bounds would end the game. That's why the announcers were groaning "Oh Nooo!" when Dak ran for it. Romo tried to add that Dallas might be able to spike it in time, until he remembered that an official has to spot the ball first.

The red probably doesn’t try barrelling through him and the offensive lineman to touch the football Additionally - you see the side judge marking the LOS at between the 25 and 26 yard line - where Dak started his slide. Dak hands the ball to the center and they are lined up at the 24 - not at the right spot. The Ref tries to move them back, but realizes it isn’t going to work and let’s them try to spike it to get the last play. The Refs did everything they could on the play to help facilitate getting off the spike because that is what the Refs do, but because Dak did not hand the ball to the Ref and because the OLine lined up with tight splits and finally because they lined up in the incorrect yard mark - you get the issue they had. It is 100% on Dak, the OC, and the HC that they didn’t get a play off. The worst part is that should all be ingrained - it was talked about in the post game, by former players and coaches. The consensus was you need about 17-18 seconds to comfortably get a play off in bounds and get a spike. The play also can not go more than 10 yards or you are pushing it because of the location of the back judge to spot the ball. Dak extended it to 15+ yards on the scramble, didn’t hand the ball immediately to the official running to mark it, lined his team up incorrectly, and then blamed the Refs. Terrible leadership and I hope the NFL fines and suspends him for his comments. That was disgusting - how he acted. 2

Agreed, but did they practice it with an official that starts 12 yards behind the LOS and can’t be moving forward until the play is nearly done - or did McCarthy and Moore practice it exactly like they did it in the game - slide - get everyone lined up and spike it - cutting 3-5 seconds off. The former coaches on NFL radio - roundly criticized them for saying they practiced it and got it spiked with 1 second left. They were saying you never cut it that close - if a play gets you a spike with less than 5 seconds in practice - then you can’t run it in a game setting. It is a 50:50 mix in a live game. The Red King
The ref needed the ball and did everything he could to get to it. The Cowboys knew that, and Dak gave the ball to his center instead. The poor ref had to squeeze himself between two linemen who did not move to let him past, and still looked like he was doing everything he could to let Dallas get the spike. The Cowboys made every mistake on that play and did nothing to help the ref help them. No sympathy here. 1
Dr.Mantis_Toboggan
Dallas Defense couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot. They had the Niners off the field with plenty of time for a game winning drive if it weren't for an undisciplined hands to the face call, on a drive ending 3rd down so egregious the refs had no choice but to throw the flag. Bad coach and a good QB who thinks he's great, that team will never win anything except some Division titles in the arguably the worst division in football. frostbitmic
14 Seconds left on the play clock and zero timeouts on the 40 yard line and you need a TD to win the game ... I think it'll be a long long time before we see that play call again. If the Cowboys had gotten the snap off, were they going to spike it or throw it in the end zone ?
