We get into the playoffs and can't even score a single touchdown. 2018 6-10. Miss playoffs. 2019 Finish 10-6. Good record on paper but let's be real this was an extremely easy schedule. In the playoff game against Houston we only manage 1 touchdown (first series) the entire game. IMO seems like we should've waited a little longer before doing an extension. 25 minutes ago, billsfan89 said: In the 17 years before McD how many playoff appearances has the team made? He has proven to be an elite defensive coach and built a culture and roster that has set up this team for success in the next 3 seasons. I fail to see what there isn't to like about it. There is no salary cap for coaches if the Bills go 6-10 the next two years and McD gets fire the Pegulas just eat the money. Yes but what about offense? His teams have seemed to really struggle on offense.

It's not like his salary counts against the cap, or this deal is putting the team in a horrible corner if he bombs the next two years. If it doesn't work out, they fire him and eat the salary. But if you follow the current trajectory and the team moves on to do great things, then you don't HAVE to worry about him leaving. Why does anyone care in the 15+ pages of this thread? First, because it's a relevant topic as McD is the Bills and vice-versa. Second, from the get-go McD has been leading their team-building strategy. So far, McD has largely been a defense first HC that packs it in at crucial moments. Re-signing McD may be good or may be bad. I’d love to know who could’ve squeezed more than 6 wins out of that 2018 squad (recall: Beane made purposeful decision to take the hot garbage salary cap lumps of dead money all in one gulp instead of over time) which featured nothing at o-line, nothing at QB (remember DA?) outside of rookie Allen, and nothing at WR? Just sayin’ you need to give the 6-10 year a bit more context. The Bills had no business winning even 6 games with that roster, everyone here knows that’s a true statement. KD in CA
His (and Beane's) most significant accomplishment can be found in the recent comments by Josh Norman. It's not about his coaching record, it's about the rapid evolution of the Bills from a team that was considered the bottom of the barrel in the NFL to one that has a positive culture where guys want to play. No one can guarantee winning, but what you can do is put your franchise in position where it has the opportunity. The Bills went two decades without that opportunity and now they have it. I'd say that's accomplishing a lot. 7

Did McD inherit a lot of offensive talent? Look at the context of the situation to see why the offenses haven't been very good. The O-line in 2017 was an aging InCog, Wood and a busted up Cordy Glenn. The three best skill position players were Shady (a RB with one more decent season left), Sammy (A malcontent who was traded for good value) and Clay a banged up TE. The QB was Tyrod a decent placeholder but more of a game manager. 2018 they traded a lot of their assets to get Josh and took on a lot of dead money to build the team the right way long term. 2019 they rebuilt the O-line into a respectable unit, added 2 quality WR's and a young RB while getting Josh some more experience. Now they added a stud WR in Diggs, some complementary parts like Moss and kept the O-line cohesion going. They haven't neglected the offense they just started farther back on that side of the ball.

Things have changed for the better. HomeskillitMoorman
I would've waited on this one given the length. I kind of just thought this was going to bring his contract to 3 or 4 years I think McD's a good teacher of the game but he's far from one of the best on gameday and hasn't done well going up against the better coaches and teams. Hopefully it works out. As we've seen, you don't necessarily always have to have a top echelon coach to win it all.
