Concerning the TE room, we have three quality young guys: Know, Sweeney, and Croom. Get rid of Kroft and spend his money eleswhere, and, yes, bring in Olson on a team-friendly deal. Or, go get one of the studs.

Ayjent
If he still wants to play you could definitely see him going somewhere with familiarity with someone who he knows. The Bills are certainly one of those teams, and I'm sure that he has respect for McDermott and Beane and honestly he could help the young roster of TEs and Josh. Yeah he is old, but he is not as old as Witten, or the recently retired Antonio Gates. He has been a really good player in this league, and I see it as a great mentor for the young TEs even if he isn't on the field as much as he has been in his career. It would be a solid pickup for the team and it makes a lot of sense for him and the team.
Just Joshin'
If he was the last piece needed, then maybe. BuffaloRebound
If you think Knox has top 10 potential, I think you sign Olsen for a year. If you sign Henry or Hooper, you’re not re-signing Knox in 2 years to a big deal. Tight Ends are hugely important in today’s NFL. Bills need to upgrade the position.

Complete overhaul in Carolina. If you put Greg Olson on the Bills today he is immediately our best TE and tied with Brown as our best receiver. Much like Gore was brought in as a role model, GO is a professional’s professional, as well as, a veteran leader for the whole O, including Josh. I understand he has a waiting broadcasting career and diminished skills but he would still be an amazing get for this team on a one or two year deal. I am majorly in “ wait and see” mode on Knox and Greg would be the best coach the kid could have. He would also be a coach for JA in terms of reading D and finding openings in zones. Dude can block also! This is a no brained pick up if McBeane can entice him.
jwhit34
I say no to Olsen, I want them to go big at TE, excellent TE play and having more than 1 is a successful trend in NFL. I still want Austin Hooper. Releasing Lee Smith and Kroft (which is doable if they have Hooper) make the net impact of Hooper on the cap of about +$3 million. And Hooper is 25. Build the young core. Knox and Hooper could have a 5-7 year run in Buffalo. I don't think it's a coincidence that the Super Bowl teams have Kelce and Kittle.

We have two young TEs with upside he could really help mentor. However, I thinks it’s most likely he is going to retire especially after the Kobe tragedy. He has daughters and has already pondered retiring and spending more time with them prior to this. He was one of many who spoke out about the Kobe tragedy and was posting pics of his own daughters. So I think he was probably already leaning to retirement before Kobe, but after I think it probably sealed it to start that next chapter where he’s just with his family. This Kobe tragedy has affected a lot of people deeply and put a lot of things in perspective. Edited January 31, 2020 by Alphadawg7

Not even saying he would entertain it but a one year deal for a big, sure handed savvy vet to help out the young guys would be great IMO. I'm with you on this one. The 597 yards he had last year was nearly equal to all 4 of our TEs combined(604 vs 597). Bring him in for a 1 year deal to play, add veteran leadership and mentor Knox & Sweeney.

Dkollidas
I don’t see how/why Beane wouldn’t look into it. Seeing The Athletic’s article by Matt Fairburn about players wanting to come to Buffalo, I think those thinking we’re just going to go out and sign Ngakoue, Hooper, Cooper and Conklin, let alone ANY of them, will likely be disappointed. The big name guys have their choice of market. Just because we made the playoffs, have an exciting young QB (exciting, not necessarily Very good in the eyes of many) and fans who will jump through tables for you, means that those guys will want to come to Buffalo. If Olsen would come here I would pounce on it. Similarly to Gore he could be a nice addition for Knox (and also Allen, who is a similar QB in some ways to Newton). Don't know if i'd dump kroft or smith though, I guess it depends on the value each one brings, if it's me I'd rather it be witten, knox and kroft rather than smith, especially if we upgrade the RT position. Mark Long Beach
Hard to know when the cliff hits for an older player. It hit Gore in the middle of the season. Granted our play calling didn't do him a lot of favors, but he's now done. But the first 6 or so games, he was plenty good. Last year, Olsen was more productive than our entire TE staff combined. If we don't go top shelf in FA, I don't mind looking at Olsen. We shouldn't rely only on Knox taking a step or two forward. I worry that he may not take fast enough steps this coming year. I don't have too much faith in Kroft. It's reassuring that McBean don't often rely on just one hope, and that multiple options are brought in. Would I hate signing him to a one year deal on the cheap? No, he isn't the worst stop gap option to replace Kroft and help mentor Knox/Sweeney. But I think this team could do better at TE.
