From what I have read. He was kicked out of the Broncos party, wandered to a nearby neighborhood and into someone’s house. He then began rambling incoherently to the woman of the house and the man of the house chased him out wiruna vacuum attachment. So, yes, he had to have been on some drugs or ridiculously intoxicated. Police state no drug or alcohol tests were performed (must be nice to be famous and rich). So we will likely never know what he was on.

It was reported he has zero alcohol in his system. I am wondering if Kelly admitted to the Broncos what he was on and they sent him packing. I am sure there was an NFL pee cup waiting for him.

Love how people don't need one shred of evidence or any piece of the story to prosecute and convict this kid.  Guilty until proven innocent in the US these days and the social media legal system we seem to now employ as the standard.

People on social media can't "convict" or "prosecute" anyone moron.

Such a lame, overly dramatic complaint that gets thrown out time & time again. "Court of public opinion" blah blah.

The public can have an opinion. The public can discuss it. Don't like it? Move to another country. Here's the thing though, the public has no legal baring on Chad Kelly getting himself arrested, nor can they enforce any punishment on him. So saying "social media legal system," as if that actually means something is beyond idiotic.

Social media exists, yes. People can discuss news on said social media, yes. If that gets you bent out of shape, maybe you should move to North Korea or Iran.

high drunk whatever, he had no intent of anything, was just messed up and went to the wrong house and then he was attacked while leaving (hit in the back of the head) .  This is all an overreaction and nothing will come of it.

Yeeaaah.... I don't think your take turned out so well.

The more information comes out about this, the more I think this won’t hurt Kelly and will still be on the Broncos.

He went to Von Miller’s Halloween party, got blackout hammered and went into the wrong house.

Jim Kelly would probably do the same thing.

If the Broncos cut him for this, they're stupid. PR this guy and get him a babysitter. Kelly has the potential to be their next starter.

And the exact opposite happened. The more that came out, the worse it got for Kelly, until he was released from the Broncos.

Posters asked questions about Colorado State Laws concerning trespassing and stand your ground.

I provided some answers.

I have not commented about Chad Kelly's situation with any speculations or opinions.

FTR

I have a question about Colorado State Laws, as it seems quite different from Texas.

I work in corrections at the county jail here, and I'm pretty familiar with our laws. What the heck is a "class 5 felony," though?

In Texas it breaks down like this:

*Trespassing is a Class C Misdemeanor

*Criminal Trespassing is a Class B Misdemeanor

*Criminal Trespassing of a Habit/Shelter is a Class A Misdemeanor

*Criminal Trespassing with a Deadly Weapon is a Class A Misdemeanor

All misdemeanors here, no felonies. We don't even have "class 5 felonies," here. From weakest/lowest offense:

Class C Misdemeanor (like a traffic warrant, public intoxication, theft of $50 or less, etc.)

Class B Misdemeanor

Class A Misdemeanor
State Jail Felony (not quite bad enough to be a true felony, but not quite small enough to be a misdemeanor)

Class 3 Felony

Class 2 Felony
Class 1 Felony

So would a "class 5 Felony" be equivalent to our Class A Misdemeanor? If so, just using the word "felony" in it makes it sound MUCH more serious.

Chad has to correct what is wrong with him. It's seems like a mental health problem like Manziel , that drinking or drugs magnifies .  jmo

I believe he would be a good starter if he could deal with his problem and stay healthy.

Manziel - wasn’t physically good enough for the nfl, suffered from affluenza, and while I hope he is getting real help, I think he is finding reasons why it didn’t work out in football.  The guy just wasn’t good enough.

Kelly is just a dumb dude.  Read his social media.  He is barely literate.  I blame St. Joes.  But he has gotten passes all his life.  At some point, if you keep getting kicked off teams, you’re a moron.

Well as I understand it every State can separate their own crimes into classifications the way they want to.

Colorado happens to use 6 different Felony classifications.  Each classification brings a specific sentencing criteria.

In Colorado trespassing can be either felonies or misdemeanors.

What probably is interesting is that a person arrested for a specific crime can be charged completely different classification in different states.

Look at the extremes in the marijuana laws.  In Colorado it's legal to possess, in Arizona possessing any amount is a felony.

Agreed, I will say for St Joes, it was not his first high school, nor was St Joes responsible for teaching him how to read and write, that should have been installed well before high school.

St Joes was responsible for educating their students but in this case they subjugated that responsibility by wanting to have a strong football program. Bringing in a gifted (albeit flawed) quarterback for 2 years, they overlooked a lot of things that would have gotten me kicked out when I was there. My nephew was in high school with Kelly, some of the crap he pulled would have gotten any other kid kicked out. But because he is Chad Kelly, he got away with doing nothing except perfecting his deep throws. As a graduate of that school, I hate seeing his name associated with the school, and wish he never was associated with the institution.

Fast forward a few years, Chad Kelly is looking for a new home, don't make me view the Bills like I now view my high school, he has stained just about every institution that has offerred him a chance.

this would have never been a thing. wtf is wrong with people?   anywho, bring him in....find a spot for him somehow  and  maybe next year we have a good situation at qb.

Why would the police do a drug or alcohol test? Did he drive into the house? LOL

According to Mike Klis of 9News.com, Kelly and his girlfriend attended Von Miller‘s Halloween party on Monday evening.

During the party, Kelly reportedly began acting in a hostile and aggressive manner. Via James Palmer of NFL Media, Kelly was involved in a physical altercation with another guest at the party.

While being escorted out, Kelly reportedly was involved in a separate altercation with security officials who had been hired to work the event.

Klis reports that security officials tried to keep Kelly in the building where the party was held to allow him to calm down. Kelly, however, broke away and entered a home nearly a block away.

Inside the home, a woman was sitting on a couch holding her young child. Kelly allegedly sat next to her. The woman called for a man in the house, who entered the room and struck Kelly with a metal tube from a vacuum cleaner.

Kelly then exited the home (he didn’t know the residents) and returned to the site of the party. He was prepared to leave the premises by Uber when police arrested him and charged him with criminal trespass.

More details on the incident that prompted Chad Kelly’s release

Yea. What is wrong with that lady with the baby sitting on her couch calling the cops when some big intoxicated guy busts in her house, sits down and starts rambling incoherently?

The nerve of some people.

There was security hired by the team or at least the team members who were putting on the party. They were the ones that kicked out Chad ?

Allegedly they were trying to get him calmed down and likely in an uber home and he took off. It didn’t seem they just tossed him on the street and closed the door.

Who would be the more toxic signing for a club and fan base,  Chad Kelly or Kaepernick?

Obviously the later;  football fans don't mind hopeless drunks, as anyone who's been to a Bills tailgate can attest.  But Kelly's career is over.

  • 4 months later...

Follow-up:

Former Denver Broncos QB Chad Kelly pleads guilty for trespassing in Englewood couple’s home

Kelly pleaded guilty in Arapahoe District Court on Wednesday in the October case

Kelly was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and 50 hours of community service during a brief hearing with little fanfare. The judge allowed for probation to be transferred to Kelly’s home state of New York or in another state where he lives, as approved by the probation department.

That was my guess once his legal issues were behind him. Now, let's see if Polian allows it. Chad Kelly could be one of the redemption stories the AAF is all about.

I would suspect the same.  They probably needed resolution to his legal status before even giving him a look.  I think he spent some time with the Birmingham team if I inferred correctly from Twitter.
