And?

AND he played in the USFL (or any other pro league) to start his career, unlike any other BYU QB before or since. There has never been a BYU QB to complete over 60% of their passes in their career in the NFL outside of Steve Young, which is pretty sad.

I do not think this really applies. He also sat behind Montana for a few years, When Young got his chance, he played at a high level. If Young played for say; Pitt, Miami, Ohio State et al, would we be having this conversation? In my opinion, either one can play in this league or not. Anyways, it doesn't really matter much it is just silly takes, Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

  • 3 weeks later...

Was listening to Greenie today as he was trying to unfold the curious case of Zach Wilson.  Greenie was asserting that the only thing that made sense was there was a player revolt in the lockerroom to get rid of Wilson.  It is pretty astonishing that they won't even give him a uniform on game days now.

Like it or not I think Wilson has to be the backup. Flacco is a statue back there and has nothing left in the tank. I was actually surprised that when White got hurt and Flacco came in that they called a pass play. White is probably going to play vs the Lions with sore ribs. If he gets hurt again, they have better shot to win the game with Wilson over Flacco.

Eric Wood on the WGR pre game was talking about the scene where the Jets players were wearing Mike White shirts.

He basically said that the Jets players made a statement.  He said if Ryan Groy replaced me as starter and I saw people wearing Ryan Groy shirts....we're fighting.

I think Zach Wilson is done in NY. I wouldn't be surprised to see them attempt to offload him somewhere in the offseason. The on field performance, coupled with the post game interviews, and what else only the players know from team only settings give you everything that you see unfolding now. I know they talk about him getting back to the basics and working on his fundamentals, but I say its all horse manure. He's done, at least in NY..

I gotta say Saleh is smart to pull the plug early on him. It’s clearly not working out. Kinda like us pulling the plug on EJ Manuel.

The only what-if is if he is a late bloomer. Look at Hurts. He was very pedestrian his first couple of seasons. But this year seemingly found success. I don’t think Zach will find that success at this pint because the jets are clearly done with him. He will go the road of Josh Rosen

My personnel skills so on point, i was sure Groy was gunna be a mainstay on this team for a long time!!!

I heard Wilson was reaching out to Mike White’s Mom - he had a different type of revenge on his mind.

I also love how on the broadcast Sunday they were bringing up how this is just a reset for Wilson and they can’t wait to get him back on the field. Okkkk, sure. There’s no coming back from benching a young QB and then not even making him active in game days. His career as a Jet is over.

Zach Wilson 5-2

Joe Flacco 1-2

Mike White 1-2

Maybe win - loss record isn't a QB stat.

Four passing touchdowns and five interceptions in those seven games, plus a rushing touchdown against the injury ridden Dolphins. He has a passer rating of 72.6  and a QBR of 43.2.

In his three games so far, White has three touchdowns and two interceptions, passer rating of 85.8 and QBR of 49.1.

The wins have very little to do with Wilson, to be honest.

Except Hurts was never as bad as Wilson has been, and Hurts is a man of integrity and extreme work ethic (not unlike Josh Allen, I'd propose) to improve himself...whereas Wilson appears to be an entitled Cougar chaser.

There was speculation dating back to when White played last year that Wilson might have lost the locker room. Nothing concrete that I knew of except for  RB Ty Johnson's quote. I never put too much stock in it, thought it was just radio guys stirring the pot. After what's transpired this year I'm not so sure. This quote is from 2021:

“It’s Mike f’ing White. He’s a savage, he’s a dog, he’s an animal,” Ty Johnson, earner of 86 yards and the aforementioned score, added. “I said it on Monday, and I’ll say it again. I’m going to keep saying it, he’s a dog, he’s an animal. Let’s keep it like that.”

toxic.   Some team will try.  QB needs to lead. Zack is no leader

Quote

If he can’t go, Zach Wilson will be back in the starting lineup. Wilson was demoted to the No. 3 job when he was benched last month, but Saleh said he has moved past Joe Flacco into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart this week.

You know all Jets fans and WR's are hoping and praying White will be a full go.

The hoodie has destroyed 2 Jets QBs.  Sam Darnold was never the same after seeing ghosts, and Wilson was made to look foolish in his only 2 losses this season by the Pats.

Darnold wasn’t “the same” before seeing ghosts, all Sam has done since joining the NFL is suck at being a QB.

"Zach's been doing a great job," Saleh said. "He's been deliberate in his approach over the last three weeks. He's been holding himself accountable with regards to how he wants to attack practice, how he's been performing in practice, going against our defense, which I think is a pretty good defense to go against. He's been working on all the different things that we've been asking him to accomplish."

I think Saleh has handled this whole situation about as poorly as any HC could.  He says WAY too much to the media, in my opinion.

I'm interested to see how others interpret his latest comments (above).

If I were to "translate" this, I think it would be something like:  "Zach got benched because he wasn't putting the work in.  His approach was lackadaisical, he's been a finger-pointer and he was just going through the motions in practice.  He's got a ways to go, but he's finally starting to respond to our concerns."

My gut tells me that this is more of a personality clash between Wilson and his teammates than anything.  And instead of approaching this as a "team problem," Saleh let the locker room make the call and decided to treat it as a "Zach Wilson problem."

Saleh has lost this team, IMO.

I couldn't be happier.

I don't think he has lost the team. I think it's the opposite. If you believe what's being reported from the media, then it's Zach who has lost the locker room. I think had Saleh stayed with Wilson while they are fighting for a playoff spot then he would have lost the team. Especially if Wilson continued to play like poop and cost them games. The rest of the team loves White who has played better than Wilson so starting him makes sense. They have no choice but to have Wilson backup White. Flacco is completely done and has nothing left in the tank anymore.
