Dont be surprised if the depth piece is also Austin Blythe OG/OC from the Chiefs. Spent time with Kromer in LA as well. He’d be a Feliciano type signing would be my guess

I thought about him too but being he started at Center last year so he might want starting money.

Was. Not. Expecting. That.

Wonder if Kromer feels he can make something of Ford; he must, to part with Williams at this point.

But....I did say that I did not think he was a guy to take a pay cut, he would say "give me a cut cut"

Bills save $6.3M and take on $3.6M dead cap

I’m not surprised. He was paid to be our starting RT.

Paying him $8+M to play guard would put him in the top 11 highest paid guards in the NFL.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/average/guard/

hard to argue he’s worth that as a guard.

Why does a pre June 1 release net us less cap savings than a post June 1 release?

And what’s the benefit of the Bills doing a pre June 1 cut instead?

POst June 1 designation allows team to spread dead cap over two years, instead of just the one coming up.

Just depends if Beane want more room this year or next.

However, for teams like the Giants who know they prolly gunna suck this year, you want to take all the dead cpl this year so you can start your rebuild and have proper cap room in year 2

Wow. Has to be making room for big signing. Leaves big hole on oline.

I think Beanre had to choose between Williams and Morse,  I still think they will ask Morse to take another pay cut and if he cannot trade Beasley he will be asked to accept pay cut or released.

Way too much noise on signing various players for nothing to happen and to sign any free agents that can help improve the team they need to make cuts and restructure or just no cap space to do it.

Cutting all this dead weight to give us 30-40 million dollars to play with in free agency.

...oh wait, that's not what this is about.  We are just plain a cash strapped team and we are trying to clear space and make some difficult decisions to keep some of our own guys and maybe sign one or two free agents.

I adore this team, but the Bills glasses some around here have been wearing have been a bit unreasonable...and blurry.

We are going to be fine, but again I'll state our 2021, especially as it jelled just before the playoffs, was a great team, top to bottom, and a potential world championship roster, save for the fact (which was a big one and played a big part in our season) that one of the best DBs in the league was out.*

* Honestly, when he went down in New Orleans I thought that was going to be the thing that would stop this team from going all the way.  Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, depending upon how you look at it, but it was so huge.

Williams is a solid player but it is kind of funny to look at the Giants Board and see them begging their FO to sign Williams & Feliciano.

I don't blame them.. They aren't bad players, (Williams as a G and Feliciano as depth) but just makes you realize where we are in terms of personnel when two guys we cut are viewed as must-sign players for the fanbase of another team.

What’s Saffold’s RAS?

Saffold and Corbett are about the same in the 8s

I believe James Daniels and Connor Williams are elite. Williams and Daniels get pinged because the came in rather light. They both put on like 20 pounds since they got into the league.

Mark this date in history - there are presently no players named "Williams" on the Bills roster!  haha

Just in time to sign Connor Williams!

Not shocked about this move but I don’t feel very good about the state of our o-line right now

Honestly, with Kromer in the mix, I feel better now than I have in the past few years.

Dawkins - Morse - Brown with Doyle and Ford as current depth doesn't have me worried on Day 1 of Free Agency.

I think you have to remember that one of the reasons we are cap strapped this year is due to the pandemic.

2021 was the first time the salary cap ever went down since it was put in place in 1994. No team really planned for that.

Next year the Bills are set to have like $51M in cap space (as of now).

Link, please?  And maybe quote a para or 2 for those without subscriptions?

Don’t know how to copy a link from the Athletic App. below is the first part of the article about D. Williams

Now that the Bills have moved on from Feliciano, the biggest question mark remaining is starting right guard Daryl Williams. The Bills could save a lot of cap space by releasing him — $6.325 million to be exact, before factoring in the contract that would replace his deal in the top 51. Williams is the most fascinating decision remaining because if they cut him, it could signal the Bills’ commitment to a different type of offensive lineman. All of their potential starters for 2022 and a key reserve they drafted last year mostly have one thing in common. They’re superior athletes to most at their position. The exception is Williams. An excellent metric to use is Relative Athletic Score, which takes the size, speed and agility profile and compares it to historical data at the position to give an accurate depiction of the type of athlete a team would be getting. It’s out of 10, and Williams sticks out like a sore thumb.

After the above, he lists the RAS of some of our linemen and D. Williams is a 3.31 the lowest behind Dawkins at 7.90 the rest are all 8’s or 9’s, and one 10 (Brown).

Interesting RAS info, Thanks.

My "link please" request was to Coach Tuesday regarding his comments on what type of guard Kromer likes and he obliged.

So right off the bat, Bills have parted ways with the guys who had lowest RAS.  IMHO Feliciano's weight loss was part of a try on his part to increase his athleticism - didn't work is my assessment.  I'm a bit surprised by Dawkins.  I would say he's hella athletic when he doesn't come into camp looking like he needs a man-Bra.

So next up on OL is decision on Bates RFA tender by wednesday.  I assume we come to agreement with a free Agent Guard before then.

Is that when the deadline for tenders is, Weds 1 pm?

I’m not sure why anyone is surprised by this.

He signed a tackle contract after a Pro Bowl caliber season at RT, then wound up at guard, where he was mediocre. I don’t think the Bills had any interest in paying him that money to be a mediocre guard.

Also, as the report says, it’s quite possible he returns at a lower pay rate. Honestly, though, if the Bills want to upgrade the o-line, RG is where to start.

Good. He's been absolutely horrible this past year. Some people have given me grief for pointing this out but this was a no brainer. He was horrible.

His season should be defined by not knowing the snap count and never getting out of his stance on the final 3rd down vs Jacksonville giving a free unabated run at Allen to pretty much seal the game.

No, he wasn't horrible this past year. However, he is not a fit in Kromer's scheme.

Hot garbage.  Any scheme that required you to actually show up and block he would have been a poor fit.

Maybe on some non-playoff junk teams he can start.  But for a playoff team with a high caliber offense he was an immense liability.

Hence, unemployed.

Really nice post…

Unfortunately, you are forgetting that people on this board believe Brandon Beane is a failure for not having the foresight to predict a worldwide pandemic that would prevent the salary cap from increasing.

Those people believe they are reasonable and unbiased. They’re just speaking in facts! ☺️

Good. $8 million per year made him the 12th highest paid guard in the league. He was decent down the stretch but no way is he worth that money.

I like this.  You come in, and don't' live up to the big paycheck, bye bye.

A lot of talent that is likely equal to Williams in Rd. 1 and 2 of most mock drafts.
