Tyrod benched for a rookie again

I really hoped Taylor could find success outside of Buffalo when he left. He seemed like a really good dude, really good teammate. However, being benched by Houston and a coach that he played for in the past in Culley...this should signal the end of his starting opportunity in the NFL. Still, would be a great back up for some teams. Maybe he heads back to where it all began in Baltimore to back up Jackson.

He's already extended his NFL career as long as he could have hoped for.

Now he'll ride on the bench of years to come, and millions and millions of dollars.

He'll retire very wealthy, so good for him.

His playoff game against Jacksonville was the worst QB'd playoff game I've ever seen (and that goes for both teams!)

Bortles was terrible too.  That was a very winnable game for us, if we had an ounce of offense.

Would love either Tyrod or Fitz as QB2 in Buffalo.

Fitz may not play again.

If the WFT don't pick up Kyle Allen's RFA option I'm wondering if they don't look at him. Young guys with a few starts under his belt. Good friends with Josh too.

Fitz would be a better player, but the Fitz Curse remains in effect.  The starters always get hurt when he's the backup.

Taylor would be much safer.

The starter always gets hurt when he's the starter, too.

I remember telling my wife after the Jacksonville game that Tyrod and Bortles had set Quarterbacking back 80 years in that game.   I've seen some stinkers,  but that was by far the worst.  They were both terrified to throw the ball.

Eh I don’t buy the curse. Think either would complement Allen well and could start a few games in a pinch.

So let me get this right ... we want a guy who can't even secure a starting spot on arguably the worst team in the NFL ... to be on our roster?

I mean… we need back-ups too.

Both guys, Tyrod and Fitz, have had similar bad luck in recent years/since leaving the Bills.  Pretty much everywhere either one of them has gone and been named the starter, they have been supplanted by a rookie or other young player, oftentimes due to their own unfortunate injuries.  Both are good guys and good teammates that can play, are excellent backups and could be starters in the right situation.  Neither guy is likely to lead a team to the Super Bowl, but paired with a strong defense and running game, these guys can run an offense on a successful.  Fitzy can also be pretty darned productive, as he was in Miami.  Tyrod is much more consertive - the proverbial game manager.

I'd rather have Nate Peterman than Tuhrod.  And no ... I'm not kidding.

It's not bad luck. They aren't starting caliber QB's. They are brought in to be bridge QB's. Fitz is light-years better of a QB anyway. Tyrod had a nice run in Buffalo, but he has not been the same since he left. Fitz has actually gotten a lot better since leaving.

Not really sure how 0-6 Davis Mills gives the Texans a better chance to win than the 2-4 Tyrod Taylor. I know W/L is a team stat, but TT has better QB stats too.

Mills is a 3rd round pick with 1 quality start under his belt (vs Patriots - although they still lost the game). His other 5 starts are varying degrees of awful (Houston was down 38-0 vs Rams before he racked up some garbage time stats).

I doubt even TT could complain about getting benched for Herbert. Getting benched for Mills though? Yikes

and peterman with the game-ending and season-ending relief performance for the injured Tyrod - for a seventh rounder Tyrod has done extremely well as in multi-millionaire

There’s more to Mills than this season with a horrible team and even worse coaching has shown so far—I got watch him locally as he played high school ball and then moved on to Stanford, and given the right opportunity, he can be solid to impressive, imho. He needs to cut out the propensity for turnovers, that will end his career as a starter quickly also.

I would like Tyrod as our back up QB next year. he would be good for a couple games if needed

I would take Tyrod over Moss, Brieda, or Singletary at RB at this point. I have no interest in him in the QB room for Buffalo ever again, though.

Until recently, I'd argue that Tyrod has been the anti-Fitz. Expected to start, then supplanted by a combination of poor play and an unintentional ~~wink wink~~ needle in the lung. Whereas Fitz is expected to back up, but then the starter mysteriously ends up karmically Gilloolied and there's Fitz behind center again.

When asked why he decided to name Mills the starter for the rest of the year, Culley said, "You've seen the last three ballgames we've played."

"It has nothing to do with Tyrod not being ready to play or anything," Culley said. "It's just we feel like that's the best thing that gives us the chance to win."

😬 ouch

I wonder if fans start calling David Culley racist for benching Tyrod?

This is a smart move by Houston.  They know a lot about Tyrod's play and know that he is not the long term answer for them.  They need to see more of Mills to determine whether he can develop into an NFL starter.  If things work out with Mills, Tyrod could remain there as the backup.  If Mills isn't the answer, he could become the backup behind a 2022 draft pick.  If Tyrod does move on, he won't be out of work for long.  He's better than most backups in the league and is known to be a great teammate.  Tyrod is having a good career and has made more money than he will need for the rest of his life.  I wish him well but not in Buffalo.

I don’t think the Texans are trying to win the Super Bowl this year buddy

The bad luck comment was referring to the injuries they have sustained.  Tyrod got impaled by a metal medical device rendered by a team doctor when he was with the Chargers that opened the door for Herbert and Fitz got injured earlier this year in Washington, opening the door for Heineicke.  Neither was destined to be a long-term solution, but in both cases, they were the named starter.

Makes sense though. They need to see if the rookie has anything to build off of and grow.. if not they need to draft a QB in the first round.
