Bills in on Gerald Everett (Gronk considered an offer from us)

Recommended Posts

Yikes. There are a lot of teams listed there. The Colts, in particular, have WAY more money to spend than the Bills.

I feel like if we're in a bidding war with multiple other teams, we're going to lose.

I would like Jesse James who was recently cut by the Lions and drafted by the Steelers.

I wanted him last offseason. I completely forgot he existed

Edit: I guess that was 2 off-seasons ago. He hasn’t done much. I definitely wouldn’t see him as an upgrade

Not a fan of Everett.   Very similar player to Knox.

I swear I was going to post the same thing. 2nd rounder with all the tools but they end up using the less talented guy more.  It won’t be the worst move ever because he has talent but I’d almost rather draft a guy high up.

This is another one of those Twitter accounts that sends out a bunch of random "rumors," most of which don't come true. I'll wait for a legit source before believing this.

Not exactly,  this account sends out rumors and info but doesn't credit the original source

I wanted Everett going into FA but if he's going to get crazy money like some of these other guys then forget it. Would rather spend a little more and get someone like Samuel or Fuller, and then spend a mid-late rd pick on a TE.

The minute it becomes a bidding war, you walk away. That's not how you build a consistent winner.

He’s terrible.  All name no game.

Strengths:

Without question, Everett is the most athletic tight end of these six potential targets. His movement skills are effortless, using the footwork of a wide receiver and flashing some excellent change of direction skills. He is incredibly shifty and even sets up defenders with double moves. Those movement skills are hard to come by at the position. Everett also flashes excellent ball skills, adjusting well to a throw behind him or outside of his frame.

Weaknesses:

Everett’s biggest flaw is how much he struggles with physicality both as a pass-catcher and blocker. He doesn’t show the same ability to disengage from a linebacker with his shoulder as other tight ends available, and in the condensed middle, that can be a problem. Although he’s at times a better blocker than he’s given credit for, Everett has a lot of awful reps on film. .......You can tell he puts a lot of effort into his blocking, but his slender frame and lack of balance is too easily controllable by the defender.

He’s (yet another) Keith McKeller type - like Knox - an athlete who can’t play the position.  Decades of this!  Turning QBs into tight ends, tight ends into left tackles, athletes into pretend-ends… just go get a real one for once!

Everett is NOT the answer.

I was at the game where Jason Peters caught JP Losman’s first touchdown pass. One of the great connections in Nfl history.

He’s a better receiver than Knox.  Seen a lot of him here in LA, they just had a lot of weapons including another very good TE as well.

He’s not going to be a dominant blocker, but he would be a more reliable and dynamic upgrade over Knox in the passing game.

He was the most athletic TE on the free agent market this year.

That strategy brings you Knox, Lonnie Johnson, Shawn Nelson, Bobby Collins, Derek Fine, Dan O'Leary, Tim Euhus,  Nick O'Leary, Derek Schouman, Chris Gragg, Sheldon Jackson, Tommy Sweeney.....

I assumed that getting a TE who can block well is high priority. Everett doesn’t seem to be that guy.

You can still add a blocking TE.  Everett isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be at blocking, but his strength is definitely as a receiver.  He would be a major weapon for Allen IMO and he was my favorite FA TE this year.

To me, this makes no sense. You're just adding another body to the TE room with Everett. We need a difference maker at the position. We didn't get Henry or Jonnu. I would say either see if the Eagles would take a 6th for Ertz or just draft a guy in the draft. I actually like Brevin Jordan

I should add, as much as I want to sign Everett, I do NOT want to sign him to anything close to what Henry or Jonnu got.  I’d much rather spend that much cap on other positions.

But I also don’t think Beane would even offer that much money and use our status as a major SB run as a sweetener combined with a more fair contract.

I really do not believe Beane is going to over pay to get him here.  So if we sign him, I expect it’s going to be a reasonable contract.

Yeah, but did you know Nick O’Leary doesn’t wear gloves and has great jeans?

The Colts need help at WR. They actually ahve a good stable of TEs so while yes they are a worry but not be top of my list. To me the Seahawks are a worry because thought of Russell Wilson and their WRs might look enticing if Everett thinks can get money, produce stats for more money and win big.
