Lee Smith was WIDE open on Allen's dart to Davis

Also Lee Smith is not really known as "hands" Smith.

In that play design he is likely more a decoy to draw coverage away. Sometimes teams do not fall for the decoy.

Or, they may realize that he's not known as Lee "Hands" Smith and they just don't bother covering him.

Anyone "blaming" Josh for this play simply doesn't.  know.  football.

His progressions were clearly from left to right and he had his man early.  No reason for him to even look to the right unless he couldn't pull the trigger to Davis.

that guy is still around?  Is he finding new ways to hate the bills offense or is he pretending he was the architect?

No he loves what they are doing on offense and is thankful we look like we joined the new NFL in terms of passing

Both the Bills Offense and any opposing Defense ignore Lee Smith.

And rightfully so. I remember on his first tenure with the Bills he caught a pass about 10 yards down the sideline and then ran out of bounds. And a Bills WR, maybe Robert Woods, was blocking for him and went up to him and said “Why didn’t you cut up field? There wasn’t anyone there.” And Lee Smith said, “I don’t cut.”

A couple of teams have done that to be burnt.

With stats like this, it's a risk I'd be willing to take:

what??? He’s thankful, pleased? I’ve gotta hear this!

edit: just tuned in and Wood, right now as I type, is ragging on him for being so optimistic and happy.

What is it with Bill fans, is Lee Smith the new whipping boy now that DiMarco is gone?  For years it was Kelsay.

Not the new whipping boy, he's been the whipping boy ever since he got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in a game that he didn't even dress for.  Got in the way of the gunner on the sideline.

So Allen did actually initially check Smith, but when he looks the DE looks like he's going to run with him.

This is an example of what Allen should work on next year, Yes he clearly sees the soft spot in the zone and the Davis is going to be in the clear to get there - but just as he's gotten better at initial reads of "is this man or zone" - he'll need to be able to say "that's too many defenders on this side of the field- can't be right" and be able to instinctively turn and hit the TE that's released. Having a better TE that he could trust to beat a DE that dropped in coverage with him might also make this an easier choice.

This is a prime example of how Allen has gotten so much better but is NOT at the same level of say Rodgers. There is a great clip from a game where Rodgers comes to line, scans the D set up, and does a literal double take on who's defending his #1 WR.... He literally stares at it a bit longer and then smiles - snaps, pretends to go through his reads away from the WR he already knows is going to be wide open and then just calmly snaps back and throws to the mismatched coverage for an easy and open TD.

Quite honestly, I think if that was Kroft instead of Smith, Josh would have made that throw. I don't think Allen would trust Smith to make that catch over Knox or Kroft

Right here.

Read the thread started yesterday on this forum.

It was started at 9:21AM, and the thread title was:

"49ers to a man say they knew what the Bills were going to do on offense, were not surprised but were helpless to stop them"

Thats a better sign than suprising them in my opinion.  If they went zone they couldnt cover up the holes.  If they went man Diggs was open.  He ran a 5 yard route and was open by 5 yards at one point.  That throw to Davis was a complete heat check throw.  It was the equivlent to Steph Curry pulling up from 40ft and draining a 3.  Allen having the ability to heat up like that makes Buffalo the biggest threat to KC.

I was just watching the all-22. On the miss to Lee Smith in the endzone he totally blew it. It was an easy score. He was wide open and should have just stopped in the middle of the endzone with no one really on him. But he waited forever and by the time he looked for the ball he was covered. Josh threw it to where he was hoping Smith would go but he never did. A normal TE has an easy TD.

LOL

First time I see this angle. The pass to Davis was as impressive a throw you'll see a QB make. Honestly the fact that he made it while he had a guy wide open for a walk in TD makes it even better. I'm glad a blown coverage didn't rob us of that beauty.

JA is a baller.

The great news? Josh will see that, and he will learn from it!

He’s a great, hard working young man. He wants to get better, and he’s proving it on the field, year after year.
