Normally, this is the greatest time of the year outside of the Holiday Season for me. Training Camps are getting underway, I'm reading through Dean's write-ups about the activities going on, there is usually preseason football to look forward to, my boys are usually in full swing of their own version of TC for their respective teams, and all begins to feel right with the world again. The anticipation builds in the hope that our Bills are taking another step towards the goal of finally bringing a Lombardi home. This year is different given the state of everything. I'm ready to watch the Bills play, but my excitement level about the game in general just isn't the same. It could be everything going on in the world around us or just the fact that life as a whole is stillĀ "off" at this point in time. Where are you all at right now in regards to what you feel about the football season?

None of the above.

Ā

I am mostly interested in how this season will actually transpire.

Ā

More like who will be the "last team standing".

Ā

It will be fun to watch some football however that may play out.

Thought I would be more excited than ever given we've all been locked up and haven't had sports. But seeing players opt out, seeing how different this season will be, what a **** show MLB is and how the other sports just don't feel right, ehhhh...

Ā

I'm looking forward to it but definitely not as much as usual.Ā

This is kind of where Iā€™m at andĀ itā€™s weird. I honestly believe, if they have their whole roster, this team can win theĀ Super Bowl. I havenā€™t been able to say that in 20 years. Without all of the camp reports and all of the uncertainty out there Iā€™m just not nearly as excited. Iā€™m ready for football but it isnā€™t consuming me at the moment.

Ā

Some of this can be attributed to all of the other sports now going on. We have the NBA and NHL in the playoffs or playoff type of environment. Baseball is in a sprint with every game being more important than in previous years. The PGA Championship starts today. I have enough sports to consume me at the moment that Iā€™m not hanging on every training camp report/interview.

Ā

All good posts and pretty much sums up how I feel. There wasn't really an option to choose that fit for me. I'll be more excited when I see the season actually kickoff. With no hitting in training camp, no live camp reports, and no preseason games, it feels like more of an abstract concept than an actual football season. Couple that with the fact that the season could start and stop at various points or shut down entirely makes it feel like a house of cards precariously ready to tumble at any minute. As Kirby stated, it feels like the BillsĀ are real contenders for the first time in several decades and we should all be feeling more excited than many of us currently are. Life in 2020 (sigh)...

Excitement is way down.

I just don't see how the NFL is going to pull-off a season, without tons of players contracting the virus.

Ā

Think about how many active players, practice squad players, coaches, trainers, etc. are associated with a single team.Ā  How do you keep that many people in a bubble and quarantined?Ā  Just doesn't seem realistic.Ā  And unlike baseball, you can't reschedule an NFL game into a double-header down the road.Ā  My guess is that within the first month, the season will either need to be delayed, cut short or completely cancelled.

Ā

Combine that with the athletes determined to shove their political/social justice garbage in our face at every turn, it makes me less and less thrilled to turn the games on.

Football season is the best time of year. If this were a normal year I would beĀ excited more than usual because the Bills are a good team on the upswing. But given the times I know that playing a full season is iffy at best which has me not as excited.

As always, I'm excited to watch the Bills.

Ā

Right now, I don't think I'll be watching any of the other team's games though, unless they directly affect the Bills. Some of it is waning interest, some of it is not wanting to support the NFL anymore.

Less excited. Sport is just less fun without fans in the stands.

Ā

You can definitely see it with baseball but with hockey covering the stands with a tarp it doesn't seem as noticeable. Nothing is normal this year and that includes sports but I think hockey is doingĀ a good job with these "playoffs" so far.

Ā  Ā Dying, dying, dying for real football news and videos Because of Covid.
Ā Ā  Life is so freakin bleak and nerve racking that I need the escape.

Ā  Ā This team is poised to be special and it is so close I can taste it. I firmly believe JA takes the next step and our O is top 10 .

Ā  Ā  Canā€™t wait to obliterate the Jets?

I want to see football, but Alf makes a point, Iā€™ll feel even better worse about our team at 4 pm. Ā Whatever is the decision of players, so be it. Ā They deserve to make their own choices, but yes, selfishly want the stars who I WANT on our team, not traded away to play.

Ā

I think some others said it well, just letā€™s get to football to stop talking about this other stuff. Ā Worthwhile discussion, but at this point, most of us are over it.

I am pretty pumped to get this thing goingĀ  and see how it lasts.I am going forward with fantasy as well.Ā

Ā

Ā I am cautiously optimistic we canĀ get through the season without any stoppage due to Covid. ThereĀ will probably be a lot of unpredictability/ up and downs with rosters this year.Ā

Ā

Now having lost and the possibility of losing more of our players brings me down a bit. If we loseĀ our best corner, I think it hurts our chances. But like I said I will not

rip into any player who chooses to sit out due to the circumstances. Mcd won't accept excuses, next man up and step up.Ā

Ā

We have a pretty nice window over the next few years to be Superbowl Contenders. I am excited to see more growth from our guys especially building some chemistry together with JA and SD!

I am ready for football, and I am excited about the Bills, but not as excited as I normally would be for football in general.

Ā

I've been looking forward to this particular season for the last 3-4 years, because the Bills were coming out west 4 times, and I made plans to see them at least 3 times out here. Especially my home town when the Bills play the 49'ers.

I was hoping to host a big gathering of Bills fans out here and now that idea is all but gone.

Ā

I also love college football, and seeing that they have cancelled all of the big non-conference games to start the season, is a huge disappointment.

Ā

When we are just a few days away fromĀ the start of the season, I will probably be more excited.

Until the season starts it's hard for my excitement to penetrate the anxiety I feel over whether there will be a season at all. But once it starts, I'll be glued to my TV, tempering my frustration over the hapless level of play in the first few games.

Ā

As the game rhythms improve, and the Bills keep winning, my excitement will grow throughout the season.

If I am lucky, I get to go to one game a year on the weekends before or after Christmas, if the Bills are at home (normally pretty ***** games)...but I totally feel the "worn out mentally" part of your post. I look forward to it, because, I am so desperate to just escape the general miserable vibe that has permeated absolutely everything.Ā  Honestly, the last couple of years, the 3 hours during a Bills game have really been the only consistent escape.Ā  I am mentally worn out too...but I need football as much as ever. I had high hopes for the Bills this year (as we all did), but now those hopes are just that they end up playing something that approaches a normal kind of season.

Definitely more angst over injuries since we have to also take into account additional attrition from Covid, so each injury will hit depth even harder than normal times, not to mention the risk that the season is canceled outright before the SB is playedā€”however, Iā€™m still stoked to see us take the field in meaningful football, come what may.Ā

I am bummed about not being able to travel to Buffalo and beĀ at the stadium.

But...I may be more excited for the opener than in other years.Ā With no preseason and limited media at camp, I have no idea what to expect.Ā
It does appear the Bills have a good strategy to limit infections at camp. It will be interesting to see how much impactĀ that Billsā€™ planningĀ and preparationĀ (Beane acquiring Diggs rather than acclimating aĀ rookie WR; sending rookies to their local residence early at camp, etc.) for this unusual season have on game performance.

Not going to the games is what I will miss the most. Tailgating before the gameĀ is a big part of it as well as being in the stadium.

I donā€™t want to get my hopes up as it Feels like it could all come crashing down at any moment in many ways. Key players could opt out or get sick, or the season could simply be canceled. Ā Normally I would be all ā€œthis is our yearā€ and it could still be, but the hype hasĀ been replaced with anxiety.

You said it really well.Ā Ā  This year has been mentally exhausting.Ā  Usually I am incredibly excited about football as it signals a lot, it comes at the perfect time of the year where work starts to slow down, people are getting ready for the holidays and the fall around here is amazing.Ā Ā  However this year feels completely different, with all the madness around the season, the opting out, the trying to figure out if they can really pull it off I am less than enthused and part of me wished they would just scrap it.Ā Ā

Ā

Say what you want, but I do think a lot of the madness that has been 2020 will slow down after the election.
