PromoTheRobot
Let's face it. The Pats are in the mess they are in now, in cap hell with no heir apparent to Brady, thanks to Bob Kraft. Belichick had Jimmy G all ready to step in by now. But Kraft heard Tawmmy's cry and pout and made Bill trade away Jimmy for basically nothing. So the last few years Belichick was being ruled by Brady because Kraft backed Tom, not him. So now, Belichick has a real mess not entirely his own making. So why stick around and tarnish his legacy? Bill could retire to a cushy TV job, or just sail his boat and get laid for the next year. Rather than put up with this crap show, compounded by the Coronavirus. So I predict Bill will announce his retirement before the draft, to stick it to Krafty Bob for siding with Tawmmy.

1st Ammendment NoMas
If they end up with Cam Newton and get some WR help, they can still be dangerous. That defense was tough last year, especially on the back end. Losing Collins and Van Noy is a joy for me and hopefully it stings the Pats. I don't see a 4-12 fall on the horizon but 9-7, 8-8 could be a reality. Bills at 10-6 could win this division.

Stacked team or not, we are talking about a guy no one ever heard of that they actually drafted despite never seeing the field in college. I mean the man had not started a game since HS. When Brady was suspended, Pats weren't so dangerous, including us blowing them out week 4...because their QB was wack. Yet Brady won the SB that year with that same roster. So...for me...I learned, don't write off BB before teams hit the field.
BillsFan4
I think just the opposite. I think he will be more driven than ever to prove that his “patriot way” was the main reason for the NE dynasty. I think he might even be invigorated by this reset & trying to develop a new franchise QB. Ill be absolutely shocked if he retires.

The stars kind of aligned for them that year to succeed without Brady. But obviously Bill Belichick is a big part of that. BTW, Cassell had some good years later on in Kansas City and went to a pro bowl, so he didn't only produce under Bill Belichick.

Players were going there and playing for huge discounts just to join that organization - so they were still stacked. That's over. And it's easier to get guys pumped up for one year vs hey this is what we are now - a team without a QB. BB's legacy is well established as the best coach in the modern history, if not the total history, of the game. So there is no fear that his legacy will or should be tarnished from now on. There is another aspect to the Brady departure. It gives the unlikeable coach an opportunity to further enhance his legacy by continuing to win without the greatest qb in the modern era of the NFL taking the snaps for his team. I don't understand your description of the franchise being a crap show? How can that be? For the past generation it has been the most successful team in the NFL by far coached by the same coach. BB remains the coach because he wants to be the coach. When he decides that the doesn't want to do it any longer he will be the one to make that decision. I say this respectfully but I don't understand your reasoning for your perspective.

mannc
I don't see him retiring anytime soon. Belichick strikes me as the kind of guy who has very few real interests outside of football and will not retire until he's forced to. I also suspect he believes (rightly or wrongly) that TB held the team back last year and that the Pats can do even better in 2020 without him. And I'm sure he's the type of guy who would love to prove that he can win big without Brady. He might be right.

Matt_In_NH
Makes no sense, this is just an opportunity for him to extend his "legend". If they fail, he was an out, it's because Brady left, if he makes a deep run in the playoffs he is an even bigger genius. No risk high reward if you ask me. This was the funniest part of this post.... Honorable mention for: ignoring that " in the last few years" NE went to 2 and won 1 SB after JG left (and that they won 3 out of 4 since JG entered the league) and that no team, given that solid a situation at starting QB, would not have traded JG if a decent offer came along--rather just stash him on the bench for 5 years, or whenever Brady decided to leave... and that it was widely reported that SF was recently interested in dumping JG for Brady just like that........
